Only one week to go now before the 2010 D1 Grand Prix professional drift championship kicks off here in Japan. The cold winter months are almost over and we have one hell of a drift-oriented line-up for you all this year. D1 is promising to be as competitive as ever with a few drivers swapping over to new cars mid-season. I will travel across Japan to bring you coverage from the best Japanese tracks like Okayama where I can't wait to see more of those physics-defying rear-end-first entries! Will...

I think I've just turned rather green after reading Jonathan Moore's post about his visit to McLaren today... but I suppose I shouldn't get that jealous as I did get to visit them a few weeks ago myself. At the time I wasn't allowed to take any photos (which made me crazy!) , but today, Jonathan was allowed to snap away to his heart's content; so we get to share in his moment of glory together!.... or is that a moment of jealousy together? Jonathan got to spend some time hanging...

March 18 turned out to be a pivotal day for the famous McLaren team. The day was marked for the launch of their new supercar, the McLaren MP4-12C – announced as a concept last year and now about to be unveiled for the first time in public at the architecturally stunning McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. But amazing as the car is in its own right, it also marked a huge shift for the team as they announced they were entering the shark-infested waters of becoming a car manufacturer...

A friend of mine sent me a link this morning showing a new MX-5 special edition from Mazda of France. Designed by LK Paris, the concept seems to be capitalizing on the flat black trend, which is apparently alive and well. I'm not sure if the friendly little Roadster is the best candidate for the flat black treatment, but it's an interesting idea nonetheless. What do you think? -Mike Garrett Source: Left Lane News...

It's hard to believe this massive event is only a couple months away now.

Check out this fresh preview video that was just released. Never before have so many high profile time attack cars gathered in one spot to do battle...

For my 3rd build feature I really want to change it up for you guys. Personally, I love it when people take a car and modify it in the complete opposite direction to what the manufacturer initially intended. So how about taking a car that was built with cheap mass-production and basic transportation in mind, gutting it, and transforming it into a track warrior? Well, that's exactly what Liam from my home city of Melbourne, Australia is doing. The car in question is an X3 model Hyundai Excel ...

I think I'm going to be in a bad mood today... The reason? Speedhunters had an invitation to attend the launch of the new car brand McLaren Automotive at their space age facility in Woking, UK. Right now I could be rubbing shoulders with Ron Dennis, but instead I'm sitting here tapping on my keyboard at the EA office in Vancouver, Canada... BBOOOO!

Oh well, Jonathan Moore will be able offer us a rather exclusive glimpse into the world of McLaren instead... Watch out for the story shortly... and Jonathan can you ask Jenson for a pair of Sunglasses for me?

Mclaren have also just released this vid, showing what went down when Lewis and Jenson got their paws on the new MP4-12C

With this month being dedicated to builds and previews there is one place I knew I had to visit for you guys. You wouldn't be able to find it if you tried, nestled deep in the Chiba-ken countryside, a stone-throw away from the new Sodegaura Forest Raceway. This is where magic happens, you feel it the instant you set foot inside one of the garages where restoration projects are underway. Thanks to people like Ando-san rare Japanese classics are brought back to life here, often starting off from...

March 17th, yes it's St. Patrick's Day when the whole of the USA turns green, drinks Guinness and pretends to have some connection with Ireland. Well, why not, any excuse to have a gargle even if the green wigs do not really go with my complextion. Down in Florida's Central Highlands the date also has a deep significance, it also involves alcohol in industrial quantities but this time a race is tacked on. So in 2010 we anticipate the 58th running of the Sebring 12 Hours, the first round...

Some of you may be aware that I produce a number of Fan Spotter Guides, including the American Le Mans Series, which also publishes the guide. With the teams already set up at Sebring for the 12 hour endurance race, I have released the first guide of the year, supported by Speedhunters The guide features all the liveries, teams, drivers, classes and tyre information for use trackside or in the comfort of your living room. The majority of teams forwarded liveries and details to me, many under embargo...

One look at the picture above and you can instantly imagine the rumbling of all that Detroit metal. Each of the three cars give you a completely different sort badassery. The green Plymouth Valiant is classically sophisticated, the yellow Dodge Challenger is a rugged badass, and the Viper is just pure, raw, gut wrenching power. The guys at Hotchkis Suspension held a track day at Willow Springs International Raceway and invited Speedhunters to come and drive their various selection of tuned muscle...

Sometimes it's amazing what you can find in your own backyard. Or your old backyard I should say. A couple weeks ago I was visiting my family in the Fresno area when my brother told me about a car shop near his work that I should check out. So one rainy afternoon I packed up the camera and made a visit to Hedges Speed Shop....

We seem to be doing quite a bit of actual speedhunting this month. We already looked at the newest standing mile event, the Mojave Mile. Later this month we will be be in attendance at the Texas Mile. But forget all that for now, the standing mile record for the fastest production car was broken this past weekend in Florida at the Top Gear Run event. The Performance Power Racing Ford GT passed the mile marker at a blistering 252.97 miles per hour! This twin turbo Ford GT did this feat with an estimated 1800 wheel horsepower and an estimated 1475 wheel torque. Mind. Blown.

Check out the video and witness the insane second gear pull and the car wheel spinning all the way to fifth.

As its St Patricks day its only right we should feature a Irish driver to mark the occasion. Dublin based Danni Murphy is now in her 3rd year of competitive drifting was the first and so far only woman to have been granted a pro license in Ireland -backing up her licensing performance with consistent top 16 qualifying in her first 3 Prodrift Ireland events. She's now here in the UK making her mark as one of the up-and-coming stars of UK drifting. Danni made her UK debut in the 2009 BDC semi pro...

With the 2010 SUPER GT season just a few days away, I thought now would be a good time to give a run-down on what to expect over the coming months in Japan’s biggest racing series. Naturally, the strong teams will remain just that, despite whatever changes have occurred over the winter. We can expect to see GT500’s top teams; NISMO, TOM’S, Cerumo, TEAM IMPUL and Honda Racing to remain at the front, followed by Kondo Racing and Team Kraft, with a few surprises from the likes of Real...

You think you are low? Think again... There is a saying that ‘Low is a lifestyle' -well these guys surely know how to live that life. There are no airbags in sight and still they are able to drive these cars, amazing. I'm sure it is not to everyone's liking, but I can't stop staring at the Karmann Ghia in the opening picture. The car belongs to a group of friends that call themselves the 3 Splines Gangsta's and are members of the Panscrapers crew in Spain. It's cool...

I'm spending this week driving around Tokyo in a brand new Fiat 500 Abarth esseesse. I haven't had a chance to drive it much but I'm already getting used to its tiny dimensions and massive fun factor. It reminded me of the great cars that have worn the Abarth badge in the past and I had to post some pictures of this 131, my favorite of them all. I spotted this very rare example quite a while back at Super Autobacs, parked up like it was any regular car! The Bertone designed 131 Abarth...

QLD Porsche Club holds events quite regularly in Queensland, alternating between the Lakeside and Queensland Raceways. At each event fresh cars hit the track, making spectating very entertaining! The last time I shot a Porsche Club track day was late 2009 at Lakeside Raceway. This sexy RS GT3 unfortunately lost control over the bank and scraped the wall, damaging the rear bumper and the carbon fibre wing. This time he was back out in action and kept the car looking immaculate throughout the whole...
