The ‘smoothing' or ‘shaving' of cars is very popular in Belgium. The idea behind it is to get rid of all the excess material on the outside of the car like the emblems, door handles and side moldings to clean up the overall look.

This Mk1 has a completely different feel than the yellow MK1 I posted last week. A large part has to do with the 16" wire wheels. They fit snuggly under the modified arches especially when the car's air-ride system lowers the car to the ground.

From this side the drop is even more impressive. The original bumpers have been replaced with items from Karmann and they have also been ‘cleaned ‘ in polyester. Also notice the extended caps on the hubs.
This picture is a good example of what the ‘cleaned' look is all about. Are there any followers of this trend on Speedhunters or are you more performance-oriented?

Here is a better view of how far the hubcaps extend.

Yep it is that low. The owner, Gunter specializes in airbrushing so he made sure he made a custom design for the hood on his own golf. Personally, I'm not a fan of airbrushing but it works very well on this car; it doesn't distract, and in my mind that's a good thing.

Here is a close up of the door handles without..... the handles.

One thing I particularly like are these custom rear view mirrors. They fit the overall feel of the car very well.

The seats and doorcards are all covered in leather in alcantara; the seats have also lost their headsets. Not sure how comfortable that is, but it definably enhances the look of the car.

It's cool to see that you can walk so many different paths to build a Golf. Even within the VW scene there is plenty of opportunity to stand out from the rest -- which is exactly what Gunter did with this MK1.
