Could the people behind Mazda be considered Mavericks after they conquered the 24hrs of Le Mans in 1991?

Decimate all the competition at Le Mans? Check. Having your engine banned from the race? Check. Ya... In my opinion it's a maverick car, the best sounding car ever as well.

This race car represents the "Never Give-up Spirit" of Mazda Engineering. #55 is Spiritual and Motivational. Mazda entered LeMan year after year after year to win this prize. And they won it the year before rotary engine was to be banned. Incredible leadership, passionate engineers and a team from a small automobile company from Hiroshima Japan, winning respect year by year (13 years).
I've always dreamed of having a street car with that engine. I'm sure it would be loud as hell and the revs violently bouncing at idle would be a huge cop magnet but it would be so sweet to have a Tamon RX7 with that motor in it for street use.

That's a long 1st gear! I wish Mazda could replace the RX-8 with a model as pretty as the FD, and put a new twin turbo rotary in there.
