As the smoke, rubber, and acrid smell of straight pipe exhausts burn off from Skyline week, we present another Speedhunters first. Teamed up with YoParts, we’ll cover the GMG performance build of their R35 GT-R Street Machine. For anyone not aware, you will be able to win this amazing car!

YoParts has created a pretty cool performance specification contest for their customers to participate in each step of the build; they’ll get access to specs, and be asked to calculate perf curves, to determine actual gains laid down on the dyno & track during testing. In other words contestants must use their automotive skills to determine how the modifications will translate to better performance numbers.

The breakdown is as follows:
- You must be an eligible YoParts member to participate
- This is open to US and Canadian residents (excluding Quebec) age 16yr or older
- Further eligibility requirements are all listed here
- Speedhunters are also now offered a 1 year membership special for $19.95 (regularly$74.95)
So chance at a mad machine for 20bucks. Considering the contest format, the odds will be stellar! Check it out at their enrollment website.

Based on 5 performance tests:
- ¼ mile ETA
- ¼ Trap Speed
- Horsepower & Torque dyno
- Timed Lap around Willow Springs
YoParts will provide the baseline stock numbers and weather conditions for when the stock GT-R ran through these tests. This provides a clear idea of how the car performs right out of the box, before performance mods. The objective is to determine how the car will perform in the same battery of tests under similar conditions after modifications and improvements to the car.
Timed events are scored down to the 1/100th of a second
The HP/Tq numbers measured to the 1/10th HP/Tq.
The total numbers of all these results will be combined and the winner will have the “lowest aggregate difference”, ie whoever is closest to the final performance test results.

YoParts are providing a detailed description of every modification that happens to the car which will be the information people will use to determine how they think the car will perform.

Once all the modifications are complete the contest will open up and people will be able to submit their entries(YoParts will provide that form). Entries accepted up to Sept 15th, 2010. When the entry period is closed, YoParts will run the same performance tests, with the same drivers, under similar conditions. The winner will be announced at the Formula Drift finale event at Irwindale Speedway on October 9th, 2010.

We dropped by the GMG shop in Orange County to have a peek at the build. We aren't going to give away much right now, but we expect very big things from this car.

Just a quick hint of what's to help power this machine when all is said and done.

In the following weeks, we'll also bring you guys a closer look at the incredible GMG facility - a wonderland of high end performance cars.

Speedhunters will carry a number of articles showcasing the build, a cover story highlighting track tests, and bring the GT-R live on the set of Formula Drift during the 2010 campaign where we’ll see/hear this thing growl first-hand.
So, let the Speedhunting begin!
