This is the first Team Need For Speed film for 2010. It highlights Patrick Soderlund and the Team Need For Speed FIA GT3 team at the first races of the 2010 GT3 season - Silverstone. We were all eager for the first races on the new Silverstone configuration and first laps of the new BMW Z4 GT3 in competition. Personally, I was excited to shoot under the cloudy skies of the English countryside and witness my second FIA GT race.

When we arrived at Silverstone, Linhbergh and I set straight away to shooting the freshly detailed Z4 GT3 outside the paddock. Gray cloudy skies with occasional showers kept things prime for a beauty shots. The carbon fiber body work and venting on the BMW was captivating.

To help set the scene for the race, we made a trip into London to document the city. Sharp contrast to the lush countryside of the England near Silverstone. Utilizing the Canon 7D's unassuming form factor - I snagged some cityscapes from the London Eye. The images are enriched by a soundscape created by the Speedhunters' composer Ekstrak. This was my first film to utilize a composer's original score for one of my edits. It's awesome to have someone pay attention to the sound design as I do to the visual.

Patrick Soderlund eyes the entrance to the pits during qualifying. I am happy how Patrick's interview turned out. It captures his relaxed personality and coolness - even during adverse situations. As a rookie FIA GT3 driver, his cool nerves allow him to excel in car - constantly improving his lap times.

A majority of this film was shot with the Canon 7D. It provided me with an advantage in focal length over the fixed lens in my Panasonic HPX. I was able to steal the Canon 400mm 2.8L from Rod and Linhbergh to get some impressive telephoto clips.

The sound design helps to emphasize the engine note of the Z4.

Meanwhile, the sheep flocks outside of the track don't seem to mind the madness a few yards away.

Enjoy the film, let me know what you think and stay posted for more from FIA GT1 and GT3 the rest of this season.

Video looks pretty good Will! The compositions and post work looks great but there is some pretty heavy banding going on that is really obnoxious. Not sure if that happened during compression or hosting but it's not something that I typically see with your work. You guys (speedhunters) might want to look into what's causing this.

Cool trailer.

Next time, I want to see more battles on the track, high pumping music. Some cool overtaking shots of the NFS-Z Car passing someone. Cool transisitions etc. Check out the 2009 DTM Coverage video on Youtube to see what I'm talking about

Sean - are you watching via "Watch SD" or "Watch HD" or from the downloadable 720p quicktime file? I appreciate the response. The Flash on2v6 codec cannot handle the shading as well as quicktime. Let me know, I am very interested.

Will - I was watching the "Watch HD" version, I even paused the frame several times just to make sure it wasn't some sort of buffering error and the bands were even there on a still frame. It's especially noticeable when you're doing the beauty shots of the Z4.

Sean, that is a result of the flash codec. I will bring it up to the crew responsible for the backend/player. There are newer versions of flash codecs that will reduce that effect - the full high rez quicktime should be free of the banding.

Mattia, I shoot 1080/24p - usually output to 720/24p. Cheers!
