Throughout my tour around Canepa Design, I was overwhelmed with historic race cars from around the world. From Can Am monsters and NASCAR record breakers to Le Mans winners - the selection was incredible. However, among the Cobras, Porsches, and Ferraris, one of my favorites was a lowly old Datsun....

This past weekend was quite the Speedhunting weekend. One day, I'm in Long Beach, at the Queen Mary, for the Japanese Classic Car Show, and the next day, I'm out in the middle of the high Californian desert witnessing land speed racing on a dry lake bed. If there's one things that stuck out the most this weekend, it was this white Datsun 240Z which was found at the Motul booth at JCCS. Why? Because it's looks insanely mean and beefy. In other words, it has proper stance --but not...

Earlier this year, my wife and I decided we would leave the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles and relocate back to exotic Central California. The primary purpose for the move was to make the jump to home ownership and also to put me in better reach for Speedhunting the entirety of the Golden State. Of course just as important as the new house is the garage that comes attached to it......

Any of you who checked Ross's BHP Show reports will surely have noticed this blue Datsun 240Z. To be honest I had kind of forgotten about the car until the Z cars took to the track at Caslte Combe last weekend. How both Ross and I discovered this was car strangely coincedental. Watching the car come towards me, nothing really struck me but as it moved away from me, the cogs all clicked into place once I heard that distinctive six cylinder sound. Beneath the immaculate exterior of this vintage...

After a year out of actually driving and building cars, I bought a 1972 Datsun 240z for $500. It was a rolling chassis, and been sitting since 1991. The guy that i bought it from said that it would take too much money to actually get this car to be street worthy, but I knew otherwise. ...

Almost a year ago, we featured that much loathed or loved 240z which invaded the automotive internet like a virus. Since then, it has changed ever so slightly and now has the appearance of a World War II Japanese fighter plane --a plane which actually shuns taking to the air but would rather hug the earth as close as possible.... I recently ran into the owner, Yuta, and he mentioned that both the car and himself will be shipping off for the land of the rising sun, permanently, in a few months time...

Sitting not too far from the Lister Roadster at Fan Fest in downtown Colorado Springs was this exquisite example of a Datsun 240z. This was another car that I was unable to see in the three morning practice session because it was running in the vintage race car class. What sits in this immaculate example of a 240z, is no monstrous V8, but a carbureted inline-six L series motor. I'm not sure if the owner/driver, Brian Scott, drives the car up the mountain without filters over those glorious trumpets...

I have to admit, since driving that amazing 240ZG at Sodegaura the other week I haven't been able to stop thinking about S30s, which is pretty much exactly why I couldn't keep my eyes off these two cars at the Mooneyes show. There is a very evident difference in style compared to the more authentic feel of the car from TA-Auto, but the Z's shape is pretty much ageless not to mention versatile, making any kind of style look amazing. It was weird seeing color-coded overfenders on such a...

You guys asked for it, so here it is. There really isn't much else that can be said about this car that already has been said throughout the interwebs. So, head over to the desktops section for a selection of these three wallpapers....

Let's put all the cards on the table: this car is ridiculously stupid. The build quality is shoddy, the care that has been given to this car is questionable, and the ride height is by no means produced by a human with a single ounce of rational thought. Why would you take a prized relic such as this Nissan 240z and completely ruin it, turning it into some pretentious piece of metal that serves no function other than itself? The first thing you notice about this car is the rusted hood and the...

Today (Sept.15) in Japan, Mr. Yutaka Katayama - better known as "Mr.K" will be celebrating his 100th birthday. Nissan enthusiasts should immediately recognize the name, but if you don't, Mr. K is the man responsible for both bringing the Nissan brand to the United States, and for the creation of iconic Nissan/Datsun cars like the original 240Z.
Here's sending our birthday wishes the Mr.K!

I'm sure just about everyone knows about Initial D . So what about Wangan Midnight ? If you don't know by now, Wangan Midnight is an extremely popular comic from Japan, which features an S30 240Z (instead of the AE86 panda Trueno in Initial D) and wangan /highway racing. So I was browsing through one of my favorite AE86 forums, Club4AG, and found this thread , which says that they are making an actual Wangan Midnight movie! Cool! I'm very interested in seeing how this movie turns out...

By now, many of our Speedhunters readers have probably already read my " driving impression story " on the new Nissan 370Z. However, I wanted to take a quick look back at the design similarities between the new 370Z and the old school S30-chassis 240Z. I thought it would be pretty cool to do a photo shoot showing both the new and old Zs together. However, I had a hard time finding a clean yellow Z to shoot; I wanted a yellow 240Z because our 370Z test car would be yellow as well. I called...

... or should I say Zed?......Here is a question for you Speedhunters readers: are you old enough to remember first hand when Nissans were called Datsuns? Does this name have an emotive tone for you? Tx for Mark Windecker for the photo... we'll be sifting through his Nissan archive materials over the course of the next few weeks or so. Anyone care to tell us about this car and what year this photo is from? :Rod

While browsing through some blogs the other day I found this 260Z 2+2 on the Corner Balance blog. I never really heard of a 2+2 Nissan Z. So after some email contact with Kwame Asante from Z1 Performance I got some more information. He even provided me the original source of the photo's on Zclub . The car itself was a restoration project and it turned out more than nice. It surprised me that the owner lives in Ireland. I really love what they are doing to cars in the UK and Ireland, the rest...

For our second post on the Langley Cruise, I thought I'd focus on 'Imports'. I was surprised at the selection at the show. I assumed it would be an all American show, but the show had a very eclectic mix. As you can see from theses images, European and Japanese cars such as the Datsun 510 and Fiat 500. I regret selling mine when I immigrated to Canada, so you'll have to put up with my indulgence for Fiat 500 images and posts! There was a great selection of Datsun 510's. I wasn't...

Say hello to one of the toughest Nissan S30Z's I have ever seen. This dark red Z is owned by Kuni-san of Gunma Prefecture, and when I first spotted it at the spring Omega Cup event at Tsukuba Circuit I could not keep my eyes off it! After first drooling over the car's amazing stance, I began to notice the overall attention to detail on the car. While it's as functional as a track car can be, it is also nice enough to rival many of the show cars I see. The majority of the classic cars you see racing at the circuit are mostly original and the drivers are out simply for the fun of driving. This car is different. Every part of the car has been built for maximum performance, which has earned the car the nickname of "Battle S30Z"......

As much as I and the other Speedhunters love classic cars, the one problem with them is that they are "classic". What I mean, is that there is not quite the same amount of "fresh" material about classic cars as there is the for the newer stuff. That is why when I found these recently taken photos of this amazing black 240Z, I knew I had to share them. This car perfectly combines the look of the vintage 240Z race cars with a modern vibe that is perfect for the street. The gleaming...
