VIP Style... Drift Style... Hella Flush (?) style... Lux Style... Time Attack Style... JDM Style... These are all different labels which have been thrown around the US import car scene in the past few years. This will happen if your tire blows out at 240km/h. It happened when Daijiro Inada tried to beat the high speed record in the Silver State Classic held in the state of Nevada. His goal was to break the record in the unlimited category. It was powered by an VQ35DE engine that had been stroked to 3.8 liter, with the help of a T88 turbo it managed to reach 800bhp. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Kazuhiko “Smoky” Nagata for many years now. Nagata-san is of course the founder of the legendary tuning shop, Top Secret. Going beyond that, he is also a bit of a worldwide motorsports celebrity, in fact he is a rather unique example of a motorsports star. Not many people can claim celebrity driver status while having no professional motorsports affiliation as a driver. To understand the mysterious Nagata-san it may be a bit easier after some background....

After reading Mike's post about the Team Orange cars and their converted EVO's and Impreza's, I started thinking about a well known Z33 which was converted the other way around, from rwd to awd: this JUN-built Hyper Lemon 350Z R. The rumor is, it was built for someone who lives in Hong Kong and wanted to use it as a Time Attack car, but nothing has been seen of this Z33 since it was finished and delivered. So I'm not sure what happened to it in the end, but I hope to see it again...

Just spotted this 350Z with what looks like to be DPE ST-10 wheels. I have been told that white is the color of 2009, so this 350Z is already ahead of its time. I always love the contrast on a white car together with black wheels. -Jeroen Willemsen

Things are getting down to the wire as Formula D teams are finishing up their cars and getting in that last bit of testing before the season kicks off in Long Beach less than three weeks from now. As you might remember from the announcement at SEMA last year, Falken Tire is going to be fielding a very strong team for 2009. One of the new cars that will be wearing Falken livery this season is this 350Z Roadster, which will be driven by Tyler McQuarrie....

Instead of just mashing everything together in a series of posts, I'm going to divide my TAS coverage up into separate stories that cover the various styles or types of cars. I thought I'd start off with the Nissan Z, since the new Z34 was one of the most anticipated cars at this year's show. The new Z has only been on sale for around month in Japan, but the aftermarket has already jumped all over it, and there were a number on display at Auto Salon. The Z33 has been one of Japan's most popular platforms over the past several years, and it looks like the Z34 will be continuing the tradition....

I was just browsing through the Voltex blog and found this 350Z with their latest spoiler design. I have seen them test fitting this design on the new EVO X and I wasn't very fond of how it looked. I just found this shot on the Ku Life blog . As some people would say this car is ‘hellaflush'. The car features a set of Gram Lights 57s-pro with an titanium finish. These wheels aren't to everyone taste but when fitted properly they can either make or break a car. Well in this instance they certainly make the car, perfect. -Jeroen Willemsen

Just last weekend, I kept hearing all this talk about the return of Jtuned... apparently Jtuned.com will be coming back, with new people involved, but the same type of high quality automotive content. Not too long ago, I was given the opportunity to test drive the latest Nismo edition Z33 350Z. This Nismo edition Z is the final evolution in the Z33 family, and the most sport-tuned 350Z available in North America (the only higher spec model is the 3.8 liter Z33 Nismo 380RS, available in Japan with a limited production number of 300 units!). While I find the Z33 350Z to be a fun car in general, the Nismo version 350Z steps it up a few notches in the performance department - the Nismo Z handles better...

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a special Nissan media event featuring the all new Nissan Maxima at the luxuriously redeveloped Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills. For the past half year or so, when it comes to Nissan's performance cars all the talk has been about the R35 GT-R. About a year ago, however, Nismo introduced a car that I still feel has not got the attention it deserves. The car is the Nismo Fairlady Z 380RS and it is quite simply one of the most impressive Z's ever built. While other markets also got a version of the Nismo Z, the Japan market 380RS offers a tuned VQ-based 3.8L engine that makes a very potent 350ps naturally aspirated. It also happens to to be what is in my opinion one of the best looking factory Z's ever. I'm usually not a fan of the "black on black" look, but I think the 380RS in the photo I shot above looks fantastic......

As a bit of a follow up on my previous post on DTP, I want to get into a little more detail about some of the fantastic rides that I saw there. I would love to do full on features here, but at the moment, the weather in our area is not the most cooperative for photoshoots, and driving about. Very well known across Europe, Sumo Power is one of the UK's best known shops catering to Japanese cars. Their Z33 350zed sports wild Do-Luck body work, but it's outfitted with extremely functional parts too! This is the same car they used in the D1GB events in the past, but minus all the decals! Most normal people in the USA spent Memorial Weekend with their families; barbecueing at the park, or hanging out at the beach or something. Not me.
