I had a fantastic time shooting the GTCC event at Tsukuba Circuit the other day, and based on your comments it seems you guys have been enjoying the coverage from this brilliant grassroots race meet. Regardless of what sort of you cars you like, I think everyone can appreciate both the passion and the fun-loving attitude that these weekend racers have.
With that said, here's the third and final part of my GTCC event coverage....

Now that we've had an intro to the atmosphere from Sunday's GTCC race at Tsukuba Circuit, I wanted to spend some time showcasing more of the cars from this event, as well as the day's on-track action....

As my adventures in Japan continue, I spent the day yesterday at one of my favorite places on the planet - Tsukuba Circuit here in Ibaraki. The course was playing host to the weekend racers from the GTCC series, and I knew this would be the perfect occasion to reacquaint myself with Japan's rich circuit culture....

Before we continue with the AE86 Matsuri coverage I wanted to quickly show you this cool Trueno I bumped into as I was making my way down to one of the grandstands at Tsukuba. It looked great on its black Watanabes... ...but once I checked out the other side of the car I noticed it was running also running on gold Panasports! Apparently the owner did this only for the Matsuri, wanting to show just how different the car looked with two types of rims. Of course it wasn't only the wheels that looked...

With so much hype around the new Toyota 86/Scion FR-S, it seemed fitting for me to pay a visit to an impressive example of the original AE86. Owned by Australian Seamus Eldershaw, this Trueno coupe has received plenty of tender loving care over the years. The gorgeous Toyota chassis was purchased in Japan just over 12 months ago on Yahoo Auctions and imported onto Australian soil. It's previous owner had garaged the Trueno for its entire life, so it was certainly a good base for Seamus to start...

This past Sunday was hectic to say the least. Most of the day's schedule was going to be taken up by the 86 drive that Toyota had organized, but what about the Gazoo Racing Festival that was being held at Fuji Speedway at the same time? Surely I couldn't just show up there and ignore all the goodness that was on display. My plan of attack called for a very early start in order to cram as many shots in as I could possibly manage before the 86 press presentation and test drive commenced. So...

My hometown is a strange little place. With a population of around 45,000 people it's relatively small, but the amount of car culture that is hiding just beneath the surface here is something else. It's home to a host of beautiful custom machinery that you probably never know existed. Thankfully, my friend Neil Shen, owner and creator of the fantastic Juicebox blog, has an amazing sixth sense for seeking these cars out. Take this two door zenki Toyota Levin for example. Being rebuilt from...

For this month's theme I traveled to Germany after I got an invitation from the Dutch ‘Team Wreck it Sideways' . I was told there was a small gathering at Mini Mobil Welt , an RC heaven in Lünen, Germany with several tracks including two where you could drift. I never had any close encounters with these cars so I didn't really know what to expect. When I entered the building I quickly met up with the guys who invited me. They introduced me to the world of RC drifting. It seemed...

When documenting the Driftworks / Trackculture HQ recently, I stumbled upon Phil's (Yes he has far too many cool cars for one man and yes, he should definitely give me one) other project - this simple but rather beautiful '86. The interior has been stripped with the addition of a cage, a Nardi wheel and a pair of Trackculture seats. The dash has also been flocked. The shell has been spot welded for added rigidity and is running on some HSD coilovers. The party piece is however the 20v 4A...

It was so hard to choose cars to spotlight at the Hellaflush Japan meeting in Fuji Speedway but this is one special AE86 I couldn't pass on. Covering events across Japan the little hachiroku is a car I see very often in a variety of flavors... ...but this once built by Car Peace was on another planet! This takes the awards as the cleanest AE86 engine bay in existence, nasty clutter, cables, piping removed or hidden for the ultimate look. That engine bay attracted a constant stream of curious...

Fredric Aasbo smoked his Supra to victory at Trax, beating Super Pro BDC regulars Phil Morrison and David Waterworth to the top spot of the podium. Head over to the Desktops section to pick up a selection of images of the two Team NFS Toyotas who put in guest appearances – D-Mac finished fourth in his AE86. Grey skies couldn't dampen the spirits at Silverstone, and a big crowd was pressed up against the fences to watch the fifth round of this year's British Drift Championship. Aasbo's...

As we all know '86 Day' passed a couple of weeks ago and large numbers of old Corollas convened all over the world to celebrate. In previous years I hadn't seen much emphasis put on this day by AE86 enthusiasts in New Zealand but thankfully this year broke that trend. An AE86 trackday was arranged at Taupo Motorsport Park in the central North Island. In typical old car fashion some owners ran into troubles leading up to the event so a few other makes and models lined up to fill the spots....

Darren just sent us across this video capturing some of the on-board action inside the Team Need for Speed D-Mac '86 from Awesomefest. Hit play and turn up your speakers for a bridgeported rotary aural assault.

I know 86 Day is over, but I couldn't help but post the video clip from the all-86 event held at Fuji Speedway over the weekend.
Is there a better way to mark the day than with a huge AE86 drift train around Fuji's drift course?
Might have to make plans to be at this event next year!

The AE86 has brought upon itself an unshakable association with the world of drifting. So whenever I come across one of these little Toyotas that isn't built to go sideways I take special notice. It seems that over the last fifteen years drifting has come to define what the hachiroku is all about, but of course that is far from what these cars are all about. This cheap, lightweight little rear-wheel drive has far more to offer up its sleeve; obviously with the screaming 1.6L 4AG powering the...

Motorsport is a tough old game. You can spend months, years even building your own personal race car and with one slight misjudgement all those hours of hard work can be undone in an instant. Most of us would probably have a little cry and call it a day. Darren McNamara however only saw fresh opportunity when faced with this exact dilemma. To really show you the whole picture of how this car evolved, I need to first take you back to October 2009. D-Mac was finishing his second season as a Formula...

When I think of AE86s I'm immediately flooded with thoughts from teams and groups all over the world, however Runfree definitely stuck out like a sore thumb. Over the years of dreaming about Japan and shooting cars it was very overwhelming witnessing these cars in action at MSC late last year at Mobara Twin Circuit in Chiba, Japan. There, I managed to capture this image off the top of the media tower looking down onto the final corner. I hope you guys are enjoying our posts, Happy AE86 Day from...

Back in March, I had the opportunity to spend a bit of time in Houston, Texas to check out the car scene out there. The culmination of my Speedhunting adventures in that city was a very special street meet which centered on the nostalgic automobile offerings from Japan . There many cars that caught my eye when I was out there, but the one that stood out the most was this 1985 Toyota Corolla owned and built by Joshua Garcia. The single most important thing that makes this '85 Corolla so special...

This photo was taken a few months ago at Bihoku Circuit which is located between Osaka and Hiroshima in Japan. -Casey AE86 Day 2011

When Charles asked me what my favorite AE86 was I immediately said the Tec-Arts Ae86 N2. The car started its life in 2001 and I remember seeing it in Turbo Magazine the same year. After that it was sold. The car hasn't stopped evolving after that and still raced in 2010. For me this car is still one of the best built AE86's in the world. You can see the progress of how the car evolved on the Tec-Arts website right here . -Jeroen Willemsen AE86 day 2011 The original story shot by Dino
