When you think about an international race like the Petit Le Mans, the first thought that would normally come to mind would be the multitudes of cars that are on track at the same time. This year, there were 53 cars occupying the 2.54 mile Road Atlanta race track. The on-track action heats up the second the green flag is waved. But as the hours start to tick down, each individual race car stops battling with the rest of the field... ...and settles into a race with itself. Here are a few desktop wallpaper...

The weather couldn't have been any better. The morning had a sight chill in the early hours before the race and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The cloudless sky continued even when the sun came up. There wasn't a hint of the Georgian heat throughout the day and the temperatures were more than comfortable. Not too hot and not too cold. Perfect weather for 53 race cars to thunder away for 10 hours at Road Atlanta for the Petit Le Mans. It wasn't the cleanest of races. Ten different...

At exactly 11:30AM local time, the Safety Car drove into the pit lane, after the two recon laps, and released the thousands of horse power behind it. Fifty-three cars. One-thousand miles. Ten hours. And in those first few moments, the #7 Peugeot thundered off and gained a considerable lead from the #1 Audi. Then again, this is endurance racing and with this sort of racing, anything can happen --especially in ten hours. The race can be streamed LIVE from ESPN3.com , if you're watching inside the...

The American Le Mans series always starts its season big and ends it big. The season starts in Florida for the 12 Hours of Sebring and ends it with a bang in Georgia at the 10 hour race, the Petit Le Mans. This year at Road Atlanta, there will be 54 cars navigating the race track while also weaving through traffic. It's always amazing to see so many race cars bunched up while hauling all sorts of rear end around a race track. This year sees the addition of the ILMC GTE class to the race grid...

As it sit in my hotel room, which is not too far from the Road Atlanta race track where the 13th running of the Petit Le Mans is about to happen, I thought I'd take time to look back at my time at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the six hour race, which can be considered as a warm up to the ten hour race at Road Atlanta. I had the opportunity to once again follow the Falken Tire team as they went about their weekend. The Falken Tire team has had a great season so far. They won two races with the...

Pole position in the GT class may have been awarded to the #56 BMW and in the time span of six hours, anything can happen. But when the sun dipped below the horizon and the timer for six hours winded down to the finish, the #45 Flying Lizard Porsche driven by Joerg Bergmeister and co-driver Patrick Long, who started the race in 5th, battled their way up the ladder and took a surprising win for the top step on the podium. Dirk Muller, in the #56 BMW, and his co-driver Joey Hand finished second. Third...

In the American Le Mans calendar, there are three races that outshine a good portion of the other stops. The first is the 12 Hours of Sebring, then there's the last race of the season, the Petit Le Mans (which is a 10 hour race), then there's the six hour race in the hills of Monterey, California... ...at the historic Laguna Seca racetrack. It should also be noted that the track is no longer referred as Laguna Seca, but rather Mazda Raceway. The American Le Mans race at Mazda Raceway Laguna...

I traveled with the Falken ALMS team a good amount last year. It is a rather strange feeling to step away at the end of the season last year... ...only to return a few months later to Long Beach greeted by a whole new crew and team. Cool sunglasses. Though, there are still a few familiar faces, like the driver, Bryan Sellers. At first glance, the signature blue and teal Porsche looks the same from last year, but it has gone through a rather major overhaul. I had the chance to sit down with Kevin...

A week after shooting Formula Drift at Long Beach, the following weekend's ALMS race is like stepping into a completely different world.
The setting might be the same, but the two atmospheres couldn't be any more different. Gone are the on and off track antics of Formula Drift and in its place the established and focused world of pro sports car racing....

Although many eyes were focused on the Audi and Peugeot works entries at last weekend’s 12 Hours of Sebring it was the older ORECA run 2010 Peugeot 908, driven by Olivier Panis, Nicolas Lapierre and Loic Duval which took the checkered flag in Florida. Hot on its heals was the six day old Highcroft Racing HPD ARX-01e. The private teams beat the works teams fair and square in Prototypes! In the GT Class, BMW Motorsport scored a strong 1-2 with their revised M3 which will compete in the American...

I have always been fasinated with race drivers crash helmets. The thinking behind the designs and the process of applying the design onto the helmet. I've been lucky enough to watch a few helmets marked up and painted years ago and believe me it is very time consuming and technical process. As a helmet designer, you are dealing with something very personal to the driver. Facebook followers of Speedhunters and Tommy Milner will have seen a few shots of his stunning new helmet come to life in recent...

The 59th running of the 12hours of Sebring takes place this weekend and will kick off a series of GT racing previews on Speedhunters. This year, the Sebring Endurance race plays host to the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and the regular American Le Mans Series. It makes for a packed grid of 56 cars, with a confusing number of classes…. Most cars are entered in one or the other series. A few, such as BMW are running in both. Confusing! The Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) is a series of Endurance...

The 2010 ALMS season for the Falken Tire team had its highs and definitely its lows. With the onset of the 2011 season, they've upgraded the 2010 Porsche GT3 RSR to 2011 spec (basically a 2010 car with 2011 bodywork) and also employed a new team to manage the car, Walker Racing. Here's a film introducing the new team while they were testing at Sebring a few weeks ago during the winter test sessions.
Looking forward what the upgraded car and the new team can do next week with the start of the season at the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Peugeot launched their all-new 908 Endurance Racer earlier today on the Champs-Elysees in Paris The French manufacturer confirmed it will continue to use the 3700cc V8 Turbocharged Diesel unit despite previously showing the Hybrid in the past. New regulations require a reduction on power for 2011 so aerodynamics are proving crucial in development. Its no surprise Peugeot have retained the Coupe layout. Under the updated livery, the car is all-new. According to Peugeot, the only component which has...

The testing and launch season for various teams and cars is now well underway. In a couple of days, Peugeot will show off their new endurance racer. In the meantime, Audi have been busy at Sebring testing the new R18 TDI in tandem with the current R15 ‘plus’, which will race at the 12hours of Sebring in March. Nine Audi factory drivers took part in the test including Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen. Audi are not making the same mistake with the R15, where development was rushed. The car...

While the attention of the SpeedHunters' Tribe when focused on sportscar track action natuarlly gravitates towards the GT battles, witness the scale of coverage on this site, there is, of course, another side to that form of racing. The Prototypes. The contest is played out at the sharp end of the field and in the past few years the speeds have risen to all time record level. The winning Audi at Le Mans this June finally broke the distance record set by Gijs Van Lennep and Helmut Marko in the...

In any kind of competition the real excitement, the real edge comes when the Big Dogs square up to each other. At the tracks that means the manufacturers, sure the racing can be good when private teams are running against each other, see GT1 and GT3 for example but the stuff of legends is only really possible when the factories do battle. In endurance racing there were two arenas for these contests, Le Mans Prototypes with Audi and Peugeot going toe to toe with their fabulous turbo diesels and Le...
