Other than family, the biggest thing I miss about the UK is Goodwood Festival of Speed. I went to every one until 2005 and it was always a highlight in my Motor Racing year. I would see few cars run up the hill climbs. I would spend most of the time in the paddocks or on the front lawn where a stunning display was always to be had. The very wet 1997 FoS was the second date with my future wife, Joanne! Must be a petrol head. Anyway, I digress. Gerry Judah always creates a fantastic sculpture each...

When this dropped into my inbox this morning, I thought it was a hoax.. Aston Martin have developed a 'luxury commuter concept', the Cygnet, which is based on the Toyota iQ. According to AM, the concept represents a creative, environmentally conscious solution, being small, yet with presence, fuel efficient with the prestige of Aston Martin's luxury brand ownership. Surprisingly, the clay shows how well the front end has been integrated into the main iQ body using the existing Toyota...

BMW continued their winning streak at the last round of the World Touring Car Championship in Brno last weekend. Alessandro Zanardi won the first race of the weekend after starting from third on the grid. The ex IndyCar champion was helped to the win by one of the strangest maneuvers I’ve seen on a track in a long time. Augusto Farfus led from Pole, but as the leaders braked for the 1st corner, Farfus turned across the track, wiping out the three works Chevrolets, along with BMW Team mate Andy...

The British Touring Car Championship visited Yorkshire last weekend where Team RAC and Colin Turkington took the honours in two of the three races, and now leads the championship. Team RAC started race day off in dominant fashion. Colin Turkington leading team-mate Stephen Jelley home from Pole Position in race one. The actual race was shortened after a huge accident between Tom Chilton in the Ford Focus and Harry Vaulkhard in the Cheverolet Lacetti. ... Vaulhard had previous sustained damage with...

As you will be aware, 24 Heures du Mans, to give its correct title is one of the biggest events on the motorsport calendar. To help you follow this weekends event, here is a quick guide to Le Mans coverage. First off, I have produced another Spotter Guide for Le Mans, in conjunction with Radio Le Mans.com, Ten-Tenths.com and some other partners. The guide is available as a 2 Page PDF and 2 JPEG images. This cool shot comes from Aston Martin Racing, who are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of its first win at Le Mans, back in 1959. Just as 2009, Aston Martin Racing entered three cars in the race for Stirling Moss/Jack Fairman, Roy Salvadori/Carroll Shelby and Paul Frere/Marucie Trintignant. - Some VERY legendary drivers in that list! Although Ferrari had dominated in this period, Aston won the event after the Moss/Fairman car acted as a 'hare' and raced hard early on. This forced Ferrari's...

Valencia, Spain played host to rounds 9 and 10 of the World Touring Car Championship. Following the farce at Pau last month, the series has regrouped and the FIA have revised their Turbo Boost tolerance. This may have taken some of SEAT’s advantage away, but reasonable notice this time allowed the Spanish marquee to adjust their cars. It seemed to have worked. SEAT were 1-4 in qualifying with Gabriele Tarquini on pole, followed by current champion Yvan Muller, Jordi Gene and Tiago Monterio...

No, not the Neil Diamond hit *...... If reports are to be believed, Fiat have confirmed, the Fiat 500 will be making it to the USA in around 18 months time, available at Chrysler dealerships. Regular readers will be aware the 500 is one of our favourites. Autoblog reports the 500 will be the only Fiat sold in the US for the time being. It is unclear if the Abarth will also be available. The Fiat 500 shares its chassis with the new Ford Ka, another car which has been rumoured might make the trip across...

We couldn’t possibly have a VW Group month without featuring one of the most important cars of all time, the Audi Ur-Quattro. The Ur-Quattro made its debut at the Geneva show in 1980, on sale to the European public a year later. Based on the cheaper Audi 80 coupe, visually, the Quattro had more aggressive styling with dramatic flared arches, deeper front bumper/spoiler and a taller rear deck spoiler. The ‘Original’ Quattro was the first car to feature the ‘quattro’ four...

One of the most visible, if not successful touring cars of the last decade is the SEAT Leon S2000 race car. Surpassed only by the BMW 320Si, the SEAT has been the choice of many drivers and teams in National and World Touring Car Championships. The SEAT Leon Cupra is a 5 door hatchback based loosely on the Golf 'A5' platform and available in Europe and parts of South America. This is the second generation of the Leon and is regarded as one of the better hot-hatches in the European marketplace...

Before the days of Audi domination in Sportscars, the German manufacture had a similar dominance in Touring car racings, otherwise known as ‘tin-tops’. Some of Audi’s greatest successes were in the Supertouring era of the 80s and 90’s. Supertouring was a 2 litre based European Touring car Formulae which most national championships followed. However, Audi had previously taken part in touring car racing. In 1980, Audi UK fielded a couple of Audi 80’s for Stiring Moss and...

Hot on the heels of our Scirocco GT24 post last week, Volkswagen have announced the new 2.0i TSI 265hp 'R' version of the Scirocco for the European market. As with all Volkswagen 'R' products it is presented in their 'Racing' Blue seen on the Golf R32 and GT24 race car. Visually, the car is similar to the GT24 with deeper front bumper and larger air intakes, compared to the standard version. A new gloss black grille with 'R' Insignia sits between the aggressive headlamps...

This is the Škoda Fabia ‘Super 2000’ Rally car. Running to similar regulations to the World and British Touring Cars, the new Super2000 Rally class allows for some variations including wider bodykit and four wheel drive. This regulations will form the basis of the new World Rally Championship from 2011. As Škoda is part of Volkswagen Group (Its not called VAG anymore), legendary rally driver, VW’s Carols Sainz has helped with development. The Škoda team have...

We cover British and World Touring Car Championships on Speedhunters, but I thought it would make a change to look at some of the other series around the world. Hopefully, the start of a little series... We will start off with the Danish Touring Car Championship, with the assistance of Gripping Media who have allowed us to use the images and Aslak Vind, a top Danish motor racing journalist. You maybe surprised to hear there is a Danish championship, but its well supported and has a number of FIA...

After some uncertainty earlier in the month, due to construction work for the 2010 British Grand Prix, the Donington rounds of the British Touring Car Championship took place this past weekend. The series added two new race winners for this season, making 8 winners in 9 races. Current champion, Fabrizio Giovanardi in his 888 Vauxhall Vectra was initially on pole for the first race of the day, but his times were stripped when the car wouldn't start in scruitneering. The start of a tough weekend...

Volkswagen created a large amount of marketing buzz in 2008 when their new VW Scirocco won their class at the Nurburgring 24hrs. The German manufacture are back, this time with five cars. Two Scirocco GT24 CNG Natural Gas cars will join three 'traditional' petrol Sciroccos. All five cars are powered by VW's 2 Litre Turbo unit. Regulations restrict power to 315hp for the petrol cars and 282hp from the CNG (compressed natural gas). World Rally Champion Carols Sainz will drive one of the...

In additions to the entries we showed from Silverstone earlier this month, a number of Audi R8 LMS chassis are also competing in the German VLN Series. German car blog One Eight Turbo.com has a great gallery from the recent ADAC H&R Cup. The 'Veranstaltergeminschaft Langstrekenpokal Nurbürgring' Racing Series is a multi-race racing Championship based at the famous Nurbürgring Nordschlefie circuit, home of next weekends 24 Hours Nurbürgring. The VLN has similar rules and...

As its VW Group month, I thought I’d show off a new Supermini hot hatch which has just been announced by SEAT, one of the divisions within VW Group. The new SEAT Ibiza Bocanegra made its debut at the Barcelona Motor Show today, less than a year after it received rave reviews as a concept. For North American Speedhunters, who might not be aware of SEAT or the Ibiza, this car is based on the Ibiza SC, which is a 3door hatch (SC stands for Sports Coupe apparently….) in the VW Polo/Ford...
