During my time as a Speedhunter I've learnt one thing: that the people from Scandinavia are truly mental when it comes to building cars. Take this Golf project for example, which is not only mind-blowing, but also executed flawlessly. First you take a discarded Golf MKIII and start tearing it apart. When you're left with a bare shell it's time to test fit some of the parts. The owner opted to go wide-body. Then it's time to start fabricating. As you can see there is not much left...

During last year's World Time Attack Challenge I bumped into Andrew Brilliant, a well known aerodynamicist from Yokohama, Japan. Andrew has developed aero for not only high profile time attack cars, but also for Super GT, GRAND-AM Rolex and American Le Mans. One of his recent projects caught our attention: this impressive, all-carbon bodied Evo known as Nemo. ...

Just the other week I had a meeting with some of the Streetgasm folk. The guys in this group come from all walks of life and it shows in the diversity of cars they own. Maurice, the owner of this gorgeous R34, is what you could call the team captain. This R34 is still a work in progress, which is why I've tagged this as a ‘ builds ' feature. When the car is finished I'll have a full feature that includes a review of its driving capabilities. Maurice and I made our way to Pro Import...

Now to continue the detailed build story of Titan Motorsports insane drag Supra. Take it away guys.
With the car’s fabrication complete, the next step is to coat the raw metal in order to prevent corrosion. We are fortunate to have a great powder coater less than a mile from the shop that we contracted to coat the chassis....

One of the - many - great things about working for Speedhunters is we can justify hours and hours of random internet browsing and YouTube videos as 'research'. For a change, my 'research' actually turned something up in the shape of this Ford Escort MKI which is currently being rebuilt in the UK. Billy Sutton (user driftescort on the Driftworks forums) recently unveiled the progress being made on his dream build. Just want to say a big thanks to Billy for letting me use his photos...

Recently Rod Chong tipped me off on a rather crazy drift car build that was going down in Sweden. This build story though. has a very unusal ending. We'll get to that in a moment, but first let's take a look at this wild machine....

In just a couple days a group of Speedhunters will be converging on Las Vegas to cover one of the largest and most influential auto events of the year - the SEMA Show.
Before we make our way to Sin City, here's just a small taste of what we can expect to see in the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center next week....

A couple of weeks ago I dropped into JDM Garage on the south side of Brisbane to catch up with owner, Erin Sykes. This shop turns over many cars for customers each year, but rarely does Erin have the time to work on a car for himself. Recently however he's started a new ER34 Skyline project. The four-door R34 will be used for drifting. The wheels Erin has chosen for the car are Leon Hardiritt Ordens. Made by Super Star, these wheels are usually seen on VIP cars, but I think they work very well...

The love hate relationship that we have with cars often leads us to do strange things. Take, for example, Australian enthusiast Jing, who has taken two bites of the modifying apple. This once blue Integra Type R was a worked street car but, having grown bored of it, Jing decided to sell it off. However a few years ago the itch returned, so he bought it back and embarked on transforming it into a dedicated circuit racer. When Jing bought back his old Integra, he started off by stripping it to a bare...

In our last segment, we showed you the initial build-out of the chassis. The chassis is the foundation for this project, much like a strong cornerstone sets the foundation of a great house. Now that the foundation has been poured, (or welded) the build and detail work begins from here. In this post we’ll take an in-depth look at the build process for some of the other major portions of the project such as the exhaust manifold, third member, and front end. We’ll also take a closer look...

Our friend Phil McGovern over at Crank & Piston recently came across this crazy R35 build in the UAE. Of course, when we heard about it, we invited Phil to share it with our readers! Phil McGovern: When we got our grubby mitts on the latest iteration of the monster Nissan GT-R we came away rather impressed. With 523bhp on tap from the twin-turbo V6, it's fair to say that the updated R35 edition of Godzilla was pretty swift. So what happens when you have an owner who is not satisfied with...

Here at Titan Motorsports we’ve spent the last 10 years building the fastest Toyota Supras and imports in the world using our bulletproof 2JZ engine combinations. Most know us strictly from racing, however our day to day operations are based around wholesale and retail performance parts mail order, as well as vehicle tuning performed at our Orlando headquarters. Late last year one of our great customers Ebrahim Kanoo contacted us about building him a new Supra race car that he could race in...

This is the brand new time attack creation from the nutty minds of the World Racing laboratory. It still has a long ways to go before it can set some lap records but it is starting to look the part quite nicely. Everything is designed from the ground up for ease of use and reliability. It looks mean as hell under the hood but car still needs a transmission and the wiring needs to be finished. The team works on it when they have the chance in between running the TC1 at events. The car is lighter and...

Teams were still burning the midnight oil when we dropped into various shops around Sydney, with many rushing to have their race cars ready in time for the World Time Attack Challenge. One of those teams is Fernandez Motorsport, who are embarking on a staggering conversion on a Ford FPV Ute. As you'll soon see by our photos, this is a rather amazing build, and the team's V8 Supercar experience is evident. Unfortunately the team have had some delays from suppliers, but hopefully the Ute will...

As I mentioned in our earlier WTAC post, we've been busy driving all over Sydney. And the main reason for that is to give you an exclusive inside look at the preparations that are going on. One of the people we visited was Ben Creswick, who has built the Hankook all-carbon WRX with his brother. This vehicle has been several years in the making and has been promising in its shakedown tests. As you can see, the WRX is now a lot wider, running custom carbon bodywork. Ben is doing some final modifications...

Australian Josh Coote already has a trick drift car that competes regularly in both Australia and New Zealand. I am, of course, talking about his well-known 180SX, which is almost too pretty to be drifting with its BN Sports wide-body and rather expensive choice of deep-dish rims. I still remember the first time I saw Josh kicking its clutch in third, swinging its butt precariously close to the concrete walls of the now defunct Oran Park Raceway. I'm sure many of us would be too paranoid of banging...

With the 2011 WTAC coming up fast, Nigel Petrie from Engineeredtoslide.com has been busier than ever. It's been 6 months of intense building on his Toyota Hilux Drift machine, and its public debut is just three weeks away. Nigel was originally planning to compete with the Hilux, however he'll be drifting in his 180SX instead so that he doesn't rush the Hilux build. It will, however, still be making the trip to Sydney to be displayed in its unfinished state. Nigel was kind enough to take...

Cars built by Fluid Motor Union have graced these pages before, including this BMW E90 M3 that I featured in November last year. The other day I got an email with an update regarding this car. FMU engineered a new velocity stack system for the car and when I looked at the shots my jaw dropped. The velocity stack has been designed and engineered in-house using AutoCAD. The end result are these beautifully sculpted aluminum stacks and arms. It's not completely finished just yet but already it has...

Remember the Agent Orange R35? Although it was AMS' most powerful Alpha 9 GT-R to date, apparently Agent Orange's new owner wasn't entirely satisfied. Although the R35 was making big power on race fuel, the owner set a new target: to become the highest horsepower pump gas R35 GT-R in the world. So Agent Orange went in for some surgery. The Alpha 10 turbo kit was installed, further boosting the power produced within the AMS 3.8l short block. Space is at a premium in the R35's engine...

Earlier in the week I mentioned that the time attack scene has been heating up ahead of this year's WTAC, and the crazy builds are certainly in full swing. We've shown you a handful of the cars that are being readied for competition, and hopefully we can continue bringing you insights into these insane creations. Although hard to recognise in this photo, what you're looking at is Fernandez Motorsport's all new time attack racer which is, of all things, a 2010 Ford FPV Ute. A Ute might...
