Since my last update, the entire crew over at Twins Turbo have been working real hard transforming the Team Need For Speed RTR-X from looking the part at SEMA to being ready to hit the track\street. We are now coming down the home stretch and it is almost time to take the RTR-X out on it's maiden voyage! I plan to break it in the right way; there will be no 6000 RPM clutch-kicks, absolutely no yanks on the E-brake, I will never mash the right pedal to the floor, and I promise it will never touch...

I know it's been a while since I last updated everyone on the progress of the RTR-X and I would love to blame it on a long vacation in the Carribean, but unfortunately that's not the case! ;) Sad truth is I finally am just getting my head above water from the insanity and aftermath of winning the Formula Drift Championship and SEMA fun, amongst many other fun things going on. It has been flattering getting messages and emails with interest to see more updates. The love for the RTR-X that...

Holy crap! I flipped my car and I haven't even gotten out of my garage! Don't worry, no Mazda's were hurt in the making of this picture. I apologize in advance for this post, as there is nothing glitzy or glamorous here, just straight up elbow grease and hard work. And I also apologize, a few of the pictures were taken with my iPhone, and probably when it was covered in metal shavings which doesn't help. I picked up some dimple dies from a company in Texas that sells them on eBay...

Building up and modifying cars is what most of us are truly passionate about. There’s just something about adding a new part onto your car that makes it a rewarding process. For me personally, the build up is just as fun as driving the car thereafter. At Modified, our whole team, including myself have always been passionate about building cars and making them go fast. That’s why for this month’s entry I wanted to give you an inside look at some of the cars we are building. This...

For my 3rd build feature I really want to change it up for you guys. Personally, I love it when people take a car and modify it in the complete opposite direction to what the manufacturer initially intended. So how about taking a car that was built with cheap mass-production and basic transportation in mind, gutting it, and transforming it into a track warrior? Well, that's exactly what Liam from my home city of Melbourne, Australia is doing. The car in question is an X3 model Hyundai Excel ...

With this month being dedicated to builds and previews there is one place I knew I had to visit for you guys. You wouldn't be able to find it if you tried, nestled deep in the Chiba-ken countryside, a stone-throw away from the new Sodegaura Forest Raceway. This is where magic happens, you feel it the instant you set foot inside one of the garages where restoration projects are underway. Thanks to people like Ando-san rare Japanese classics are brought back to life here, often starting off from...

Sometimes it's amazing what you can find in your own backyard. Or your old backyard I should say.
A couple weeks ago I was visiting my family in the Fresno area when my brother told me about a car shop near his work that I should check out. So one rainy afternoon I packed up the camera and made a visit to Hedges Speed Shop....

Yesterday we looked at World Racing's preparation for the 2010 season, and now it's time to catch up with another Scion race car - the Papadakis/Rockstar tC drift car driven by Tanner Foust....

Last week I headed over to the World Racing shop in Torrance to check with in the guys as they readied Chris Rado's time attack Scion tC for the upcoming season. It turned out the car would actually be seeing some dyno time that day, so the scheduling had worked out perfectly....

Did any of you watch the F1 race today? I'm a bit irritated to be honest, as I think the new "no refueling" rules have really spoiled the show and made F1 even more processional than it already was. Ergh DISAPOINTED!!!... Anyway moving on, I wanted to share some photos with you that I took a few weeks back in the UK. All of you now know that the Top Secret Drag R II Skyline R33 is alive and well in the UK with its current caretakers: G Man and the Skyline specialist shop: TR Racing...

Hello Speedhunters! My name is Romas Tamulevicius, I’m from Lithuania, and this is my work in progress - or as I like to call it – my money pit! :D Everything started with just an idea floating in my head that I needed to build a drift car for myself. Just for fun on the weekends and to have a car that could take a beating. As I’m a total gear head, as well as a Toyota fan, the choice was narrowed quite quickly to a Corolla – which is a pretty rare sight here! So while the...

Alright, here's a build that may lack speed, but more than makes up for it with charm.
David as big fan of the Speedhunters and is living a bit of the dream life, restoring vintage cars in at his home in Nagoya, Japan. David's stable includes several different JDM classics, and the latest addition is this 1967 Mitsubishi Minica 360 micro wagon....

I've been shooting time attack events in California for a while now, and at each event I always find myself gravitating towards the cars built by Evasive Motorsports. Part of it is the fact they are usually at the top of their class, but another was their perfect resemblance to the Japanese time attack cars we love.
Needless to say, when Evasive main man Mike Chang asked me to come out and have a look at the shop, I couldn't turn him down....

It's been too long! I miss you guys... sniff sniff. Life has been busy, lets just say that. However, I DID finally get some major progress done on the car in Jan/Feb. Back in January after I finished most of the prep on the body shell, my buddy Colin Jensan came by my shop and schooled me on the ways of MIG welding. I haven't done any welding since high school, and even then, my experience is very limited. Armed with a small Lincoln Weldpak MIG machine I went to town on the chassis stitch...

The first build I showed you was pure American muscle, from the body, to the frame, to the guy's working their magic on it. For this next build I'm not gonna go all JDM or Euro on you, but the engine choice does come from the land of the rising sun. I know how much you guys love the Japanese stuff (as do I), but I do try to feature some of the more obscure builds to keep it interesting and fresh. This next car is a 1966 Sunbeam Minx in the stages of receiving an F20C transplant and 4-link...

It's been a while since we have seen a Japanese Supercar on US shores. While we were all excited to see the new Nissan R-35 GT-R, rumors were circulating that this car was so electronically advanced that it could not be modified. Here at AMS we were intrigued by this notion and so was Chuck Hannold of the popular GT-R forum board Nagtroc . As time passed tuners including ourselves have been finding ways to improve the GT-R but Chuck was looking for something more. Chuck established a lofty goal...

Greetings fellow Speedhunters readers, my name is Anthony Crivelli and I hail from Melbourne, Australia. Like most of you, I'm a young gear-head who reads Speedhunters every day with my morning coffee. For around a year or so I've been running a little blog called Build-Threads.com which focuses on the build process of all things automotive, whether it be cars, bikes or even garages. When Rod offered me the opportunity to write some guest blogs on Speedhunters, I jumped at the chance (who...

I bet Dino Dalle Carbonare must have bought a big case of Red Bull to help him get through this week. You see, he's about to do something a bit crazy for the next five days: Dino's going to visit the Daikoku parking area on the outskirts of Tokyo each night from March 1st to March 5th. This fervor of activity will also see daily posts from the previous night's shoot. Why is he going to all this trouble? Well to help us celebrate Skyline week of course! Today is March 1st (3-1 get it?...
