When the first Pro Touring cars hit the scene in the 1990s, the idea was simple. Take the timeless style of a vintage Muscle Car and make it perform like a modern machine. Not only was a Pro Touring car built to be an all around performer, it was also built to eat up miles without breaking a sweat - whether it was a long interstate run or a backroad romp. At some point though, Pro Touring cars may have jumped the shark....

It has become a tradition of mine at SEMA to seek out the BASF stand and the latest Ringbrothers creation. In recent years, the Ring Brothers have managed to create some unique muscle car builds. This year was no exception. This 1970 Chevrolet Camaro 'Diversion' was one of the stars of the show and was faultless. Mike and Jim Ring, based out of Wisconsin, started rebuilding cars as kids. They have earned themselves a reputation in first class builds and often include their signature custom...

I've noticed a resurgence in 70s Chevrolet Camaros at recent SEMA Shows, and this year's event was no exception. One example was this clean 1972 Camaro that has been owned by the same family since the late 70s. Jerry Fernandez Sr has owned this Camaro since the last 70s. When he started a family, he decided to store it rather than sell it. A wise move as it turned out. Once his first son came of age, he took over the Camaro. Over the course of the last ten years, the Camaro has gone through...

A good number of automotive related videos are watched on a daily basis at the Speedhunters offices. And lately, the influx of drifting related videos has sky rocketed. But when this film, from YAER Productions came across our desk, following Formula Drift driver, Ryan Tuerck, we were rather taken aback by its fresh take on a scene that has seen its fair share of videos. The film chronicles the moment when Ryan is waking in his hotel room, to the daily humdrum of the morning and finally, to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for a good bit of tire slaying.
Ryan is currently 6th in the driver's championship with one more round to go.

The direction which North American professional drift cars are progressing into is a hotly contested topic. One thing is for certain, the cars are getting louder, they're getting faster and they're billowing out tire smoke by the metric ton. The faint twirl of a blow-off valve has been replaced by the almost defining roar of V8s with the top tier competitors' V8s packing the most punch and the most thunderous noise. British videographer, Stephen Brooks, couldn't get over the fact...

I've been busy doing research and gathering photos for some upcoming retrospective posts and wanted to share this quick photo I found. The car seen here is Robert Barg's '67 Camaro which ran in the SCCA Trans Am series as part of a privateer effort. For an interesting story on the history of this car, you can head over to The Garage.
Not sure about you guys, but I'm always a sucker for period photos, especially when they have cars as cool as this one in them.

A few days ago, we looked at the detailed build process and saw what exactly influenced the exterior styling of the '70 Spectre Camaro. Now, here is the completed car. Quite a drastic change from the yellow car it once was, no? Let's first talk about the engine. The original motor was swapped out for an LS1, which was pushed back 1.75” by Campbell Auto Restoration. They added a set of headers from Patriot, a Spectre cold air intake and a Speed by Spectre HPR filter. This very popular...

The Spectre Carbon Camaro didn't start out as the menacing wide-stanced monster it is now. When Amir Rosenbaum bought the car, it was like all projects, rough and parked in a corner for years while the team tried to decide what to do with it. The Spectre crew works with several talented fabrication shops on all their projects, and the team at Campbell Auto Restoration in Northern California took the Carbon Camaro from project status to finished race car. We spoke with Mark and Tom at Campbell...

Ever since Chevrolet introduced the new Camaro a couple years ago, people were waiting for the inevitable "hot" version of the car - one that will go head to head with Ford's supercharged GT500 Mustang. Today at the Chicago Auto Show, GM finally brought introduced the fire-breathing 'Maro - known as the ZL1....

While walking the rain soaked ADRL paddock of Texas Motorplex, I saw many amazing drag machines. Many sported very bright liveries that were either airbrushed on or had some amazing paint work. But for some reason, this flat black 3rd generation Camaro stuck out to me as the most badass looking out of the whole paddock. It could be those dormant post-apocalyptic Mad Max fantasies bubbling up after seeing this car, or it could've been the dreary day that drew me to this murderous looking Camaro...

Out of the cars that came out to the Irwindale Thursday night drags, this Chevy Camaro is another that stuck out from the crowd. Even though the car looks like its still an original body '69 Camaro, there's been a lot of chassis work involved. As, for the engine itself, its hard to tell what V8 exactly is lurking underneath when there's a giant scoop protruding at the top. The office. I'm surprised to see that there's still some carpet in the interior AND wood panelling! Though...

Twenty minutes was all that I needed. Actually, scratch that. It was that first spirited corner which convinced me. The other nineteen minutes and fifty-eight seconds was a pounding-the-point-into-my-cranium experience. I was sitting passenger in a car that would normally cower at the brief mention of anything corner related. But not this 1968 Chevy Camaro RS. This particular lady, dressed-to-the-nines in Traffic Violation Red, has been completely redone from the ground up to do very un-muscle car...

Hello Speedhunters! My name is Scott Murray, you may recognize my name from the story on my AWD sleeper mk2 GTI that was featured last year. This story however is not about me, nor is it about my car. It’s about my buddy Mark’s ’71 Camaro RS Z28. This project started about 4 years ago. The search for the donor car itself took the better part of two years. After missing out on several cars on Ebay, and checking out a few ‘rust free’ shells that turned out to be ‘metal...

I might be just a little biased in favor of the new Chevrolet Camaro. After all, it's the car that won me a hundred bucks.
No, I didn't win an outlaw street race. In fact I won the money long before my week-long test drive of the 2010 Camaro SS. ...

Here's a new video clip of Conrad Grunewald doing some preseason testing in the new Hankook drift Camaro at Laguna Seca.
Looks like the car is coming along well, and boy does it sound nice...

Hi folks,
Maybe you want to hear the story about a little Camaro driver…
After I got my license in 2001 and after a long time of searching I found my first automobile love, a Chevrolet Camaro RS with a 5L 170HP V8 built in 1990.
So in 2002 everything began. I started reading a lot of message boards, magazines and tuning books to suck in all the information I could get. After starting as a complete greenhorn I began to understand how a car works and what I have to do to make my car faster.

Yesterday we took a look at a custom '67 Camaro from Japan, and now it's time to look at another SEMA Camaro of slightly different type - the Grunewald Racing drift Camaro. It was only a matter of time before someone took to drifting the big Chevy, and Conrad Grunewald will be doing just that next year in Formula Drift. The car was built by a shop called BR Racing, and by all appearances it looked ready for action at SEMA. This thing is far the from the mock-up that most "new" drift cars start as....

After reading John Leigh's blog earlier today about his Top Secret-built Infiniti, I figured I'd follow up with a similar story, yet in reverse. While John was able to have his JDM tuner car displayed at Tokyo Auto Salon, Akira Yamamoto of Kyoto, Japan had his prized '67 Camaro displayed last week at the SEMA Show. There's been tons of Japanese-built vehicles shipped stateside for a variety of reasons, but this is the first American muscle car that I can recall. As we walked around SEMA last week, I immediately recognized this car after seeing at Tokyo Auto Salon and in Custom Car, one of my favorite Japanese magazines....

This car will race in the Camaro Cup in Sweden it will replace the older Z28 that has been used since 1999. The car uses a tube frame chassis made by HOWE Racing in the US. Ohlins suspension and Michelin tires will make sure the car handles like a true racecar. It is funny to see that this real American muscle car will be raced on the other side of the ocean. Check this Wikipedia link for more info about the Camaro Cup. -Jeroen Willemsen Spotted on Vizualtech

If you've noticed my lack of activity over the past couple days, that's because I've been busy relocating to my new place in beautiful Southern California. Now that I've got my office sort of set up, it's time to catch up on a few days of Speedhunting. One of the big stories this week has been the news that Conrad Grunewald will be returning to Formula D next season in a 2010 Chevy Camaro. The car is being built for a SEMA debut and Conrad will start testing soon after. The new Camaro is a big, heavy car so Conrad will be doing everything he can to trim the pounds off. Under the hood will be a variant of the LSA engine found in the new Caddy CTS V. It was only a matter of time until someone turned the Camaro into a drift car, and we can't wait to see this thing going head to head with the Falken Mustang next year in a battle of the pony cars!
For more, you can check out the detailed build story on LSXTV.com, or Conrad's official site.
