34 year old Trent Stromkins is a graphic designer by trade and a drifter by choice. A life-long car nut, Trent was driving around Canada in a heavily modified Honda Civic until he came across a drifting DVD nine years ago. Since then, the Civic has made way for the Corolla that you see before you. Trent can usually be found crossing the border to bump and grind his hachi's butt against the walls of Evergreen Speedway, in Monroe WA. In 2009, Trent finished 3rd in Evergreen's drift season,...

For some reason, you tend to find some fantastic cars hidden in the corner of garages. While Rod and I were at ForceFed, we stumbled across one such car: a little SR20DET-powered Corolla tucked away beneath another car on a hoist. This Corolla is owned by 'Dusty', one of ForceFed's fabricators. This is his personal street car and drifter. Powering the diminuitive Corolla is a Nissan SR20DET from an S13, along with a GT2871 turbo and a Microtech LT10 ECU. The coolers have been arranged...

While in Abbotsford, Rod and I paid a visit to check out the ForceFed facility and to meet with the Drift Safari crew. In turned out that ForceFed's owner, Marko Stilinovic, and I had some common acquaintances from the Australian rotary community, and so it didn't come as much of a surprise to see some Australian hardware fitted to their cars. Marko's been working on rotaries for the past 13 years, starting out - like many people - in his backyard. After travelling to Australia, where...

How many of you consider Speedhunters to be an American website? Quite a lot I would imagine? Perhaps you'd be surprised to know that Speedhunters HQ is in fact based in Vancouver, Canada. This misconception of nationality might be based on the fact that we don't really feature a lot of our local West Coast, Canadian scene on Speedhunters. I suppose we should really try and be more supportive of local happenings, but unfortunately the time between Speedhunting trips is normally taken up with...

Uh oh, A bit of bad news for enthusiasts in Canada. The province of Quebec has banned the importation of registration of right hand drive vehicles over unspecified "safety issues", a move which will no doubt be a big blow to the Japanese car scene in Canada. At the time the ban is just for Quebec, but there are worries the movement could spend to the rest of the country. Maybe it's time for some organized opposition, just as SEMA has helped the hobbyist countless times here in the states? For more, check out the Blufaction blog. Thanks for the tip, Kevin. - Mike Garrett...

I met up with a bunch of the local rotary crew here in Vancouver last week, had some beer and some wings and did a lot of bench racing, always fun to meet up with some Rotangs. The late night antics of a couple of the guys was pretty fun too. There may or may not have been an 'incident' with a Toyota Prius, I can't comment on it here though. Check out Jean-Marc's FC that pumps out 400+ RWHP, 13B half-bridge ported with a Garrett T67 turbo I believe, tuned via a microtech ECU, and...

Hey fellow speedhunters, here is a few shots from a group of friends from the Gatineau région up in Canada. Shots are from a meet last summer including four Nissan Pulsar GTi-R's and two very rare Mazda 323 GTR's. Waiting for summer to come to let the beasts out is very long, but thanks to Speedhunters the wait is so much easier....

Last month Gerald Elliot sent us some photos of his 1970 Ford Cortina GT based out of Nova Scotia, Canada, and we've been waiting until the start of Readers Month to post it. The little Ford has been outfitted race-built 2.3 SOHC tuned to make 240hp naturally aspirated. It also includes things like a Mustang T5 trans, a quick-change rear diff and some very racecar-like bodywork. As you can see in the photo, the car sees the track regularly. Thanks Gerald! -Mike Garrett...

Those of you who've been following our coverage from the recent Pro-Am Nationals at Irwindale Speedway will have noticed that Canadian Ian Fournier took the overall spoils at the wheel of his four door ER32 Skyline. Although this type of car is a fairly common site at drifting events in Japan, it's rarely seen in North America. And this points to an element which differenciates the Canadian Japanese car scene from its American equivalent. Fresh-off-the-boat imported machines are quite plentiful...

This past August, I was invited to be a guest judge at a local drift Drift Mania West event, held at Western Speedway in Victoria BC, Canada. As you can expect at typical North American grass roots drift event, the majority of the cars competing were S chassis of various types. But one drifter chose to break the mold with his choice of car and went in a more old school direction: his name is Chris Scremin and this is his 1985 SR-86. Chris is one of the top drifters in the west coast Canadian scene...

Ok, let's jump straight in to part two of my Drift Mania West judging adventure... As I had to attend to judging the drift runs from qualifying on, this blog post isn't going to read like a regular event report as I was unable to shoot the action during these sessions... But I'll do my best to share with you my own observations from the event.... someone requested more shots of the S12, so here you go! Now that I have the use of a proper camera to shoot events and features, I've been...

Our man in Japan, Dino Dalle Carbonare has the unique responsibility of reporting the latest bits of automotive culture from Japan on a day to day basis. In looking at his MSC Honjyo report, I find it quite amazing just how easy it is for you, the Speedhunters reader to get a sense of what's happening, on the ground, in this far away, exotic land. As for myself, I quite enjoy reporting on how drift culture is consumed by different countries around the world.... so for this blog entry I'm...

I used to have a good fashion designer pal, who once told me of a meeting he had had with Creative Director of a well known German urbanwear fashion line. The Creative Director said something quite interesting in their meeting: "Fashion is Communication. At every moment, the clothing you wear is telling everyone around you what kind of person you are, what you value, and what you want to say about yourself. Even if you choose not to pay attention to the details of your personal style, this is...

No, not the Neil Diamond hit *...... If reports are to be believed, Fiat have confirmed, the Fiat 500 will be making it to the USA in around 18 months time, available at Chrysler dealerships. Regular readers will be aware the 500 is one of our favourites. Autoblog reports the 500 will be the only Fiat sold in the US for the time being. It is unclear if the Abarth will also be available. The Fiat 500 shares its chassis with the new Ford Ka, another car which has been rumoured might make the trip across...
