It's that time of the year again. Next week the city of Las Vegas will be taken over by gearheads of all types as the SEMA Show rolls into the Convention Center. Although the economy is showing signs of a comeback, this year's show will still be toned down a bit compared to years past, with some companies skipping the event for financial reasons. Nonetheless, it's still SEMA - and there will still be miles of the latest and greatest machinery to check out.
Here are just a few of things to look out for next week-...

Every year in the UK, Japanese car enthusiasts get together for the massive Japanese Auto Extravaganza, better known as JAE. The 2009 edition of JAE was held this weekend at Wicksteed Park in Northhampton.
Photographer Rich Sams was kind enough to send us some photos from the event....

Alright, time for some more coverage from last weekend's Nisei Showoff in downtown LA. Rumor has it that this may be the last Nisei Showoff ever, and if so it'd certainly be strange not to have this summer tradition on the calendar. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the future holds for the event.
For now though, let's get on with more photos from Nisei Showoff '09....

Despite being a nut for Japanese iron, I've never been much of an "import car show" kind of guy. I don't know why, but for some reason I've always felt out of place among shined up tuner cars, DJ's, and models. However, there's one event that I'll make an exception for - the Nisei Showoff held every year in downtown Los Angeles. The Nisei Showoff is a Southern California tradition, dating back to the days of PIAA foglights, multicolored interiors and dragon graphics....

Recaro Days is one of the best outdoor events of Germany, each year Nurburgring can welcome thousands of visitors for this event. Loads of attractions and events are available at Recaro Days. You can drive your own car at the famous Nordschleife, Take a 'Ring-Taxi', watch the 1/8 mile sprints, watch drifting or walk around at the show & shine zone. The Vw Scirocco you see above is not a real police car but a demo car for 'tune it! safe!' An organisation who wants to notify the...

Matte colors are always a point of discussion, you like it or you do not. At Worthersee you'll find a lot of matte colored cars. I bet the owner of this Corrado has something to do with the Army. If you were wondering what the 'scoop' is doing in his front grill, if I say the car has 500hp, does that say enough? Enjoy this last part of Worthersee tour 2009! This matte black fits this A3 Sportback very well! The high gloss mirror caps gives the finishing touch! Matte black, white, green...

End of May is the time of the year for the annual VAG Worthersee event. Year after year, this event takes place in the town of Velden, Austria next to the beautifull Worthersee lake. Along with the great weather, the huge lake and loads of VAG cars make this the top gathering of the year for the VAG-lovers from all across Europe.
In general, loads of people start to arrive in Velden the week before the actual event starts. Alongside the lake there are numerous places for many meet & greets for several VAG clubs and forums. ...

For the final installment of the Exciting Car Showdown in Nagoya I thought it would be nice to take a look at some new cars, as well as some old ones. The AVO/Motec Japan 240Z JDDA Pro Street drag machine is a combination of both, being built around an S30, but powered by a more modern engine. Here is a look at the twin-turbocharged OS Giken RB30, capable of producing 1150 PS and propelling the bright orange Z down the strip in 8.46 sec. Engine management is, of course, taken care by a M800 Motec...

After taking a look at some of the best drift cars from the Exciting Car Show in Nagoya, I think it would have been a sacrilege not to dedicate a post to all the lovely grip-oriented machinery that was on display. First up, the Magic RX-7 on the Red Line Oil stand, which was fitted with their newest wide-body kit. I love how angular the front fenders are and the way they integrate into the side skirts with those three carbon vents. Not sure how road legal the long protruding front lip/diffuser would...

Time now to take a look at some of the best drift cars that were on display at the Exciting Car Showdown in Nagoya this past week-end. Kumakubo and Suenaga brought their Team Orange Evos all the way down from Nihonmatsu in Fukushima for the crowds to drool over. Finally had a good look at the Evo X's engine bay, and as you can see it is nothing short of totally impressive. Koyama-san at JUN did an amazing job with the 4B11, tuning it to deliver 580 PS and a very strong mid-range which tops out...

Here is another selection of wild rides from the Exciting Car Showdown. The black & white opening shot above is of the Saurus DR30 Skyline, winner of the JDDA 10-second class. This car comes from an era before the RB-series of engines, so it is powered by the old FJ20DET 4-cylinder lump. It has been stroked to 2.4L via an OS Giken kit and is blown by a Trust T88-33D-15 turbine, which allows it to develop an impressive 756 PS and a healthy 82 kgm of torque at a pretty high 6,050 rpm. As you can...

Let's begin to take a little deeper look into the Exciting Car Showdown that is being held this week-end in Nagoya. I have been covering events here in Japan for close to ten years now but I have never, ever been to one where so many cool cars were on show. Every one deserved a proper in-depth shoot, the selection was really that good. The perfect example is the Mitsubishi GTO in the opening shot. Built by Pit Road M this E-Z15A pumps out 720 PS and a massive 75 kgm of torque from its stroked...

Here we have another big event from the UK, the Japanese Auto Extravaganza (JAE) which was last weekend held on the grassy fields at Mersea Island. By the way, I was just noticing that It seems like almost all car meetings in the UK are held on the grass for some reason. Maybe a lack of parking lots or "car parks"? Interesting. Anyways, the JAE event is held over the course of two days and gathers hundreds of Japanese cars of all makes and their owners for a weekend of celebrating all things four-wheeled and Japanese. Looks like there was everything from classics, to drift cars, to "tuner" style cars as well as plenty of machines from the EDC and UK Time Attack Series....

Is it just me, or is the van and wagon dress up movement in Japan getting bigger and bigger? These photos were taken by Minkara member "L175 MOVE" at the JapanCup wagon & van meeting held last month in Miyagi Prefecture. The event was hosted by T-Selection and J-Line, two companies that specialize in dress up parts and tuning for various van and wagon models. Around 260 cars were present at the show, and they ranged from tiny kei cars to full size vans like the Nissan Elgrand and Toyota...

On Friday evening myself and Speedhunters photographer Jim Hejl managed to pull outselves away from the NFS offices to check get an exclusive behind the scenes look at the setup at the Driven to Perform car show. Organizer Jason Tse was kind enough to walk us around the floor at BC Place Stadium, introducing us to the various car owners as they polished and prepped their cars up for the show....

This weekend, my friend Tobin and I drove up to Northern California for the second annual Motoring J Style event. It was a rough drive! We had to brave the rain, tornadoes, and LA rush hour traffic (which added 4 hours to our trip), before making the 6 hour drive to San Francisco. However, our purpose for going to Motoring J Style wasn't for taking photos; we were the official emcees of the event! You know me though, even though I was busy with duties as Motoring J Style's official announcer...

For British fans of Japanese vehicles, there are few events bigger than the appropriately titled, "Japfest". Over 2000 Japanese cars of all types gathered at Castle Combe Circuit for a full day of action both on the track and off. All parts of the scene were represented with events including a car show, track day, drift demos from our friends at Driftworks, and much more. Just looking at the schedule of events,I felt like I was missing out. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who LIVES...

Are BMW's the future of JDM tuning? You might think so after seeing the the dozens of customized Bimmers packed into the Makuhari Messe during the Tokyo Special Import Car Show. Japanese tuners that formerly made parts for domestic cars only are rapidly introducing new products aimed at the BMW market. A few of them have even launched all new brands that cater only to BMW owners. Walking around the SIS, I couldn't help but be amazed by the quality of the BMW's on display. I really liked...
