Another week another Show, this time I got up before I went to bed to jump on the first Eurostar to Paris and onto the 2010 Retromobile. What a contrast to the gruesome NEC and not just the Show itself. Alighting from the cab at Porte de Versailles the scene could not more different from the horrors of the charmless Birmingham. The cast was not made up of the dog eared and shop worn UK motorsport fraternity but instead there were legions of tall, slim young women. Everywhere you looked there were...

The UPS man dropped off my new camera this afternoon, and once I got it all charged up I couldn't figure out what to test it out on.
Then I stared above me and saw some of the miniature cars sitting on a shelf.
And so I present my first action shot with the new light capturing device (to use Linhbergh's words).

There are many ways to express personal passion for cars. Some people work as engineers, managers and marketers for the world's car companies, others spend their time working and building cars either for themselves or for others, or some like myself are involved with automotive media and spend their time shooting and writing about all things automobile related. There are also some individuals who are in a very rare place in life: they have the means to build up car and memorabilia collections...

Ergh... it seems that each time I go to Wilkenson's I find an increasing amount of items to dump my hard earned cash into. I'm frothing at the mouth for the Autoart Super Silhouette Skyline, but this True Scale Miniatures 1/18 Kremer K3 die cast is also making me crazy with desire. The Porsche 935 is absolutely my favourite racing car of all time, and the Kremer K3 is one of the most exciting of the variants to hit race tracks around the world in the early 1980s. True Scale Miniatures has...

Remember how fantastic childhood birthdays were? I remember I used to have huge parties when I was a child, perhaps just so I could get more presents! These days though it's slim pickings for birthday presents, which is probably why I normally buy myself a little treat each year. This self-present is normally always a die cast model or a motorsports history book. So a few weeks ago I went down to Wilkenson's in Vancouver to see what they had on offer for my birthday treat. I ended up buying...

What's up everyone! My name is Marc Marquez. Rod was gracious enough to ask me if I wanted to a guest spot on Speedhunters featuring RC Drifting (as they are all AWD cars) and of course I couldn't pass it up! I love the work these guys do and i'm more than honored to contribute! In this short article, i'll give you a small glimpse of what the RC Drift scene has evolved into, hopefully you all like it! Just a short little background on myself, I've been in the RC drift scene for...

I'm sure a lot of you folks collect die-casts of varying forms and would be interested to take a quick tour of a model shop located in Maranello, Italy no? "Warm-Up" is located right across the parking lot from the Ferrari Museum, some 200 odd meters from the factory. Maranello appears to be a bit of a holy pilgrimage for hardcore Ferrari fans so it only makes sense a shop like this exists in the town. One of the first things you'll notice on walking up to the shop are these two...

There haven't been a lot of post about diorama's or model cars lately, but I feel that they are an important part of our community. So when I came across this diorama made by Wilco Machiels, I had to post them up on Speedhunters. Another nice detail is of course the VW's that are placed inside these diorama's. Like most car enthusiasts, you start to build model cars and quickly realize that you suck at it.... But there's always the exception and that is Wilco... he started at...

I find at most big racing events, the bits of car culture you see in the paddock and spectator areas are often just as interesting as the on-track action. It's here that you can get up close with the unique qualities of local automotive scenes. Sometimes when I'm wandering about these spectator areas I'll come across something that I will absolutely HAVE to bring home with me. It may be a book, a sticker, a magazine or just a photo opportunity. Last August, I was at the FIA GT 24 hour...

Yesterday I was browsing through the official Super GT website looking for news on the upcoming season when I found an announcement that Suntory has teamed with Super GT for a new promotion. Starting this week, selected cans of Boss Coffee will come with free Super GT mini-cars. Since this a "while supplies last" sort of thing, I quickly headed down to my local Family Mart to see what this was all about....

Are you Toyota guys feeling a little disappointed that Speedhunters Toyota Month took place in February, the shortest month of the year? Don't worry, I still have a few Toyota stories left to do,and I'm pretty sure some of the other Speedhunters do as well. In addition to stopping at Toyota's Megaweb showroom the other day, I also dropped by the nearby "History Garage" for another look at this must-visit car spot in Tokyo....

2009 for a lot of people, myself included, has gotten off to a bit of a poor start. It seems that every day brings more bad news: the world economy is in a meltdown, people are losing their jobs, their homes and we're not sure if several of the world's automotive companies will last the spring. It's all doom and gloom isn't it? So when I'm feeling a bit low, where can I turn, to make myself feel just a wee bit better? Aside from the affections of my lovely lady, I quite enjoy...

Is the grass always greener? Is it unhealthy to spend so much time looking at far away car cultures? I occasionally wonder this when I look at just how much Japanese car culture we feature on Speedhunters. Oh well, what can you do!....Here is another Japanese car culture feature :> I picked up this little RC drift toy last summer in Japan and have been diligently waiting for Toyota Month to start before building it up. I find it quite interesting that this little slice of drift culture can be...

The Schnitzer Group 5 Celica Turbo, in my mind, is an old race car with a bit of an unusual status. This historical Toyota was a rather unsuccessful attempt by the Schnitzer team to build a race car to take on the might of the Porsche 935. Now history is littered by race cars which went up against the mighty 935 and failed.... Most of these cars are mere side notes in motorsports history- soon to pass out of memory. The Schnitzer Celica should have been completely forgotten by now too. Built for...

I think it's fair to say, most of us spend a lot of time dreaming of all the different cars we'd like to drive, build and own...... Unfortunately though, unless your name is Jay Leno, it's probably these automotive imaginings will likely just remain pipe dreams. After all, it's not completely practical to have a garage filled with 200 cars is it? Well, luckily for us regular mortals, there are many forms of automobilia, other than collector cars, to fill your home with. ....And at...

The other day Rod asked me if I could post up some of the Nissans from my diecast and toy collection and, I had to tell him that I don't really have much of a "collection" to post. Here in Japan at least. I have some things packed away in storage back in the states, but the collection here in my apartment consists only of a few random miniature cars and a ton of car magazines that my wife is constantly telling me to throw away......

Regular Speedhunters may remember my post on the 2008 Porsche Calendar, back in September, the post proved very popular with requests to know when the 2009 edition was available. Surfing around today, I discovered that Lotus and Porsche have released design calendars with renders and illustrations from their respective design studios. The Lotus Calendar is a past favourite of mine. The 2009 calendar features 15 pages of development sketches, scale model photographs and digital sketches of Lotus Products...

Most guys I know have something they like to collect... comic books, urban vinyls, Le Mans annuals, magazines, kicks, rare Japanese rims... Name any type of object produced in some kind of series, and you'll likely find someone that spends their extra money building up a collection. Now, I wouldn't particularly classify myself as a serious collector, I'm perhaps too much of a minimalist to fit into this category, but I do have a few items that I like to pick up from time to time. I like...

I don't think it's much of a stretch to say the Japan has the best convince stores in the world. Whether it's freshly made onigiri rice balls, bento lunches, or the latest issue of your favorite magazine, the conbini have everything you could want. They also have a nice selection of toys that come packaged randomly in small boxes that include everything from WWII fighter planes and motorcycles to alien monsters. I always have to take a look at these things when i drop by the neighborhood Seven Eleven, and the other day I came across something I couldn't live without, the 1/64 scale "Granchan Collection" from Aoshima....
