The Moby D i c k Porsche 935/78 is one of the most famous race cars ever, and it's one that's been recreated in scale form by countless diecast and plastic model brands. Taking things even further, we recently came across this incredible Moby replica built entirely out of Lego....

To this day, Steve McQueen remains a cultural icon, even to many that were born after his death 31 years ago. Known as the 'King of Cool', the McQueen legend continues to fascinate people all over the world. Recently a book on Steve Mcqueen called A Passion for Speed came across our Speedhunters desks. The 192 page hardbound book is filled with endless photographs of Steve McQueen, with many candid shots of the American actor. Of course many of you will be aware of McQueen's strong racing...

Whilst you and I may all be car fanatics to the nth degree, it's also quite unlikely that we share the same automotive interests or express this facination in the same way. Some of us build cars, while others race them; some shoot photos of cars and still others work in the industry. It's all pieces of the puzzle called international car culture. This range of expression and taste is also likely reflected in our choice of car magazine purchases. Most of you Speedhunters will likely have wildly...

I'll admit that I'm not a big collector of die cast models. But I do appreciate them and like to check them out in great detail. So when I found out that Minichamps had a museum in Aachen, Germany I hopped in the car and made the two and a half hour drive to visit the museum. The museum is attached to the actual factory that builds the model cars. You enter through a small door and are greeted by a security officer. In the 600 square metre museum you can find more than 3000 models at any...

Before we move to part two of our Porsche Museum tour , I'm going to take you for a quick look around their gift shop. It's filled with all sorts of Porsche rarities and is perfect fodder for any serious Porka memorabilia collector. The entrance to the Porsche Museum shop contains what must be the coolest 1/43 die cast display on the planet. See those graphical lines? They contain a complete collection of mini Porsche machines. I'm a bit of a predictable creature as my camera is always...

With just a couple days left for our month-long collectables mini-theme, I wanted to share one more pair of cars that I recently added to my collection. The wife and I were doing some shopping at the Marukai grocery store in downtown Los Angeles when I slipped these two little boxes into the shopping cart without her noticing....

The customized 1/18th die cast model doesn't have the biggest following. But it does have a lot of die hard hobbyists taking completely stock models and modifying them to however they see fit which results in some truly spectacular results. Chris Lee is one of those guys. And since you can't just go out and buy 1/18th scale aftermarket parts, Chris meticulously modifies or hand makes everything for his models. I don't even want to ask how many hours Chris spends molding, shaping, sanding...

Each day our inbox gets hit with emails from all over the world. This morning was no different, and one of the emails came from Indonesian Speedhunters reader Edward Hadinata, who sent through photos of his dioramas. Having long had an interest in model cars, Edward decided to try his hand at a couple of home-made dioramas. The first is this Evo specialist garage. If you look closely you'll spot some cool papercraft items like the magazines, KFC box and laptop. The yellow hoses on the wall are...

Last year, we gave Miata connoisseur, car designer and 1/18th scale model car customizer, Chris Lee a visit. We first looked at his massive collection in its entirety, which you can see here . We then took a look at a couple of his creations in detail, which can be seen here . Since that visit, he has had a few new additions to the collection so I thought I'd give him another visit and see what sort of scale model customizing Chris has been up to. Chris has five new custom models and on this...

... at the side of a racetrack. To get the full story about why there's a 997 Porsche brake light on my desk, I need to bring you back to August 22nd 2010. It was a Sunday but not just any Sunday. This Sunday played host to the seventh round of the 2010 British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone. The BTCC always runs with the support of other racing series' and this round was no different as the touring car grid was joined by the Porsche Carrera Cup. The second race of the Carrera Cup...

We know that a lot of you guys collect diecast cars, and we thought we'd tie this week's poll with out collectables theme with this month. Whether we are talking about .99 cent Hot Wheels or pricier diecast replicas, there's always the question of whether to leave it in its original package or to break it out and put it in a display case - or push it around on the table while making exhaust sounds. ...

Nakai-san's RWB name has exploded in popularity over the last year and in that time I have found myself at his shop countless times to either shoot cars or interview him. Like a lot of people out there I love and respect the work he does and have wondered what my very own RWB Porsche would look like if I had the spare cash to commission a build from him. First up what model would it be, turbo or NA, narrow body or mega-wide? How about the rear wing, a subtle ducktail or a full on stacked GT-wing...

Where some strive for that perfect die cast collection or others endeavour to build the most accurate RC cars, my own personal vice is of the paper and hardback variety. Any show or event I attend, if there's a stand selling books you can get your bottom dollar I'll be there drooling over what's on offer. I guess the reason why I pick up so many automotive related books is even though the internet is a great resource, you still can't beat the highly detailed information on offer out...

While speaking to some of the RC drifters at the RC Mini Mobil Welt it seemed that it's not all about the drifting itself. While drifting your car is the end goal; building your car and making it look like a real car with all the details is even more important for some. Take this Toyota Soarer build by Tijs Lochbaum for example. It features a lot of parts you just can't buy in the hobby store. Like the intercooler and oilcooler behind the frontbumper. Tijs even thought about the intercooler...

If you've been on the site recently, you may have read our two part story on the Ford Heritage Collection, which in itself is arguably one of the greatest collections you could come across. As a life long Ford fan, it was a huge privilage for me to be allowed access to this secretive department of the Ford Motor Company. It's always an occasion for me when I get to see a super rare Ford but to be allowed unrestricted access to an entire workshop full of rare and milestone cars, I just can't...

Collecting die cast cars is a dangerously expensive hobby. It's also one of the hardest hobbies to explain to any person who might not share an interest in our automotive world. Often and wrongly dismissed as mere 'toys', some people just don't understand the lengths that diecast makers go through to ensure their scaled replicas are as accurate as can be. I've always believed that one of the main reasons we collect die casts is that it allows us to appreciate the original car...

The Speedhunters community is in full swing and almost every day we get messages saying we should check out certain collectables or RC builds. For the last few days I have been sifting through numerous forum threads when we received an email from Christer Stromark. In it was a photo of another replica of one of our Team Need For Speed cars. After I featured Matt Powers' S14 RC replica it is now time for this Supra that has been made famous by Fredric Aasbo. This Supra has been built by Christer...

A few weeks ago I was on my way down to Bakersfield for the California Hot Rod Reunion, when I dropped by a truck stop for a quick snack break. If you've ever been to one of these roadside megastores you know they sell all sorts of strange stuff. Whether you need a corn dog, a CB radio, or a patriotic t-shirt, they've got you covered. They also have a selection of diecast cars, and that's where I first saw the Hot Wheels Vintage Racing series....

After the final of the 2010 JDM Allstars Series at Wembley, a rather jaded Speedhunters team made their way to the nearby Ace Cafe for a bite to eat. As we tucked into some well earned food, Rod and I began talking about what it would be like to bring Speedhunters right into the hands of our readers. To be honest, it started out as a bit of a pipe dream but with the arrival of Charles to the Speedhunters staff, we had someone with plenty of experience in the print industry and someone who could help...

Die Casts are dangerous. Very Dangerous. Be warned. Once you start a die cast habit it's almost impossible to stop. My first Die Cast was a 1/18 scale Mercedes CLK-GTR from the 1997 FIA GT series which I purchased in the late 1990s. At the time I was thinking to collect every single GT1 spec car from 1996 through to the demise of the formula in 1998-9, however 1/18 models take up a lot of room so I quickly gave up on the idea. Instead, I decided to concentrate on collecting 1/43 scale Group 5...
