With 2010 quickly coming to an end, most motor sports are now wrapping up their seasons. D1SL, the street legal sister competition of D1, recently held its final round at Tsukuba and we were on hand to capture all of the action....

Following the action packed D1 final in Fuji Speedway the other Saturday, Sunday was to provide even more entertainment with the exhibition round D1 organizers had planned. Drivers were out to impress with their driving skills even though no points or prizes were up for the take. The layout of the competition was slightly changed with the top 24 drivers going head to head in judged tsuiso battles. This was done to provide the crowds with even more action and really give a chance to the drivers to...

To tell you the truth I was probably more excited about seeing Hideo Itakura's RA28 Celica GT liftback in Okayama than Yoshioka's FD. At lest it was out on track drifting! There is something so cool about seeing old vintage cars going sideways... ...especially when they look this good doing it! The Celica actually debuted into the drifting scene late last year at Rd.11 of the MSC championship. The SR20 powering it was still in the set-up stage at the time... ...but since then the team have...

On top of Kumakubo's 1000 HP Laurel, this 4-rotor FD is the most anticipated car in D1 this year. But will it ever be ready? That is probably what Toshiki Yoshioka is also wondering by now! He has had to skip half of the D1 rounds for this 2010 season as the guys at Total Car Produce (TCP) Magic desperately try to complete the car. But things were looking promising at round 4 last month in Okayama, as we all got to finally see what looked like the completed version of this insane FD. The car...

I think this shot of Hibino perfectly represents what the rear-end first entries at Okayama are all about. Full speed, hard on the side brake and all the opposite lock the steering rack can handle. Head to the desktop section for the hi-res versions. -Dino Dalle Carbonare

Despite all the new "big" cars missing from the D1 Round in Fuji this past weekend I was very happy to see an all new addition to the lineup. Enter Sagisaka's new 2JZ powered SXE10 Altezza built by Sagisaka SPL in collaboration with Koyama Racing Labo. This pretty much retires his old 13B powered AE86 in an effort to stay competitive against the powerful machinery everyone is rocking in D1 lately. Sagisaka was really going for it at Fuji, making full use of all... ...the 700 HP his...

If you guys have been missing some pro D1 Grand Prix action, June is when you will get what you have been waiting for! With both the Fuji Round 3 and Okayama Round 4 happening this month, not to mention the Formula D action from New Jersey, it's all going to be a drift packed couple of weeks here at Speedhuntes! I headed out to Fuji Speedway nice an early today for the Round 3 qualifying session. I was expecting to see some exciting new cars like Kumakubo's 1000 HP Laurel as well as Suenaga's...

This year is promising to be the most exciting season in D1 yet, as more foreign drivers make the trek over to Japan to participate in the series. This past weekend, while I was covering the Mooneyes Street Car Nationals in Odaiba, D1 hit Autopolis for Round 2 of the 2010 championship where Suenaga took first spot with his soon to be retired RX-7. He is in top position at the moment but will he be able stay there when he takes out his new RX-8 in Fuji in early June? This year will be one of change...

It's gearing up to be an interesting couple of days up here in Ebisu Circuit with the G1 Gaijin Grand Prix tomorrow and then the Spring Drift Matsuri on the weekend. I spent most of the day chilling out with Andy and Emily from Powervehicles.com looking through their impressive selection of drift cars but the highlight of the day was without a doubt when Kumakubo dropped over and told me it was cool if I went down to K-Style to shoot a few pictures of his new D1 car. Obviously, as you can see...

It might not have been a proper competition with points, but boy did the action from Sunday's D1 All Star day not disappoint! I was expecting everyone to take it easy, and seeing the weather turned very cold it was a good thing they put on a good show or a lot of people would have left! By mid-afternoon the winds were freezing but I didn't see anyone get up and take off as the top seeded guys were providing just way too much excitement. Murayama's rear end was another casualty of those...

After checking out some action from Odaiba in the previous post it's time now to take a look behind the scenes at what helps make D1 the spectacle it has become. Organizers did a great job this year of bridging the action together with demonstration runs out on track and various shows which included some singing from up-and-coming artists as well as tons of entertainment in the paddock. The pit walk remains the most popular part of the day as fans can get closer to the cars, take pictures and...

D1 really captured the Japanese capital over the weekend with packed stands on both Saturday and Sunday. The TV Tokyo crews came out to film the action and behind the scenes for a special show which will be aired later next month. I know I probably say this every year but the level of driving seems to increase so notably as this form of motorsport progresses, especially in the precision department. I have never see so many barrier-clipping runs at Odaiba! Still driving his trusty old ER34 Nomuken...

The 2010 Japanese professional drift season has officially opened! The D1 Grand Prix championship got under way today in Odaiba, at the much anticipated Tokyo Drift event, which seemed to have brought in record numbers of spectators. As I write this I'm already getting ready for tomorrow's All Star exhibition, which will be focused towards entertainment rather than competition. Before we get into any detail on the day's competition let's first take a short look at what was going on...

Only one week to go now before the 2010 D1 Grand Prix professional drift championship kicks off here in Japan. The cold winter months are almost over and we have one hell of a drift-oriented line-up for you all this year. D1 is promising to be as competitive as ever with a few drivers swapping over to new cars mid-season. I will travel across Japan to bring you coverage from the best Japanese tracks like Okayama where I can't wait to see more of those physics-defying rear-end-first entries! Will...

You really can't go wrong with a bit of drifting that's for sure! The D1 crew were out at TAS with their cars putting on the very popular drift exhibition that has been a big hit since it started in 2008. The sunny weather made it a pleasurable way to take a break from the dark and overcrowded halls of the show, checking out Japan's most famous drifters in action. 2010 also marks the 10th Anniversary of the D1 Grand Prix so the organizers were giving away special commemorative stickers...
