Those of you who've been following our coverage from the recent Pro-Am Nationals at Irwindale Speedway will have noticed that Canadian Ian Fournier took the overall spoils at the wheel of his four door ER32 Skyline. Although this type of car is a fairly common site at drifting events in Japan, it's rarely seen in North America. And this points to an element which differenciates the Canadian Japanese car scene from its American equivalent. Fresh-off-the-boat imported machines are quite plentiful...

This past August, I was invited to be a guest judge at a local drift Drift Mania West event, held at Western Speedway in Victoria BC, Canada. As you can expect at typical North American grass roots drift event, the majority of the cars competing were S chassis of various types. But one drifter chose to break the mold with his choice of car and went in a more old school direction: his name is Chris Scremin and this is his 1985 SR-86. Ok, let's jump straight in to part two of my Drift Mania West judging adventure... In looking at his MSC Honjyo report, I find it quite amazing just how easy it is for you, the Speedhunters reader to get a sense of what's happening, on the ground, in this far away, exotic land. As for myself, I quite enjoy reporting on how drift culture is consumed by different countries around the world.... so for this blog entry I'm...

I was browsing through some photos on Flickr last night when I caught this pic of a very clean looking TE27 Corolla running in a drift event. My first guess was that the photo had been taken in a Toyota-crazed area like Malaysia or the Philippines, but I was wrong. The picture was actually taken in Edmonton, Canada at the DMCC opener last weekend. Besides the vintage Toyota, it looks like there were some other interesting cars taking part in this event. Check out more photos from DMCC round one in mschroeter140's Flickr gallery. -Mike Garrett...
