Yesterday we introduced a new category for the Speedhunters Awards - Muscle Machine of the year. In addition to that, we've created another new category for the Hot Rods, customs, lowriders and vintage drag machines we've showcased on the site over the year.
We've featured and spotlighted a lot of these cars in 2011, and it's time they get the credit they deserve.
Here are the nominees....

Now to continue the detailed build story of Titan Motorsports insane drag Supra. Take it away guys.
With the car’s fabrication complete, the next step is to coat the raw metal in order to prevent corrosion. We are fortunate to have a great powder coater less than a mile from the shop that we contracted to coat the chassis....

Over the past few years I've lost count of how many drag races and drag cars I've photographed, but I've always been meaning to shoot one that was Australian born. That changed when I visited Mercury Motorsport, where I came across this stunning 1981 VC Commodore. Purchased two years ago by John Desmond, this Commodore is no longer street registered and has been built specifically for the strip. What really appealed to me was its unassuming exterior. With the accompanying steel wheels...

In our last segment, we showed you the initial build-out of the chassis. The chassis is the foundation for this project, much like a strong cornerstone sets the foundation of a great house. Now that the foundation has been poured, (or welded) the build and detail work begins from here. In this post we’ll take an in-depth look at the build process for some of the other major portions of the project such as the exhaust manifold, third member, and front end. We’ll also take a closer look...

Here at Titan Motorsports we’ve spent the last 10 years building the fastest Toyota Supras and imports in the world using our bulletproof 2JZ engine combinations. Most know us strictly from racing, however our day to day operations are based around wholesale and retail performance parts mail order, as well as vehicle tuning performed at our Orlando headquarters. Late last year one of our great customers Ebrahim Kanoo contacted us about building him a new Supra race car that he could race in...

When I got a message through Facebook from somebody who I have met a few times before in the Dutch show scene saying he had some new material, I was curious. Then my mailbox got flooded with a bunch of pictures from a event in Denmark called DHB. After seeing all the photos I'm convinced that the guys in Denmark invented the word ‘Hooning'. You could witness some high powered Toyotas doing a quarter mile run. See some interesting show cars. Like this Golf equipped with an airbag system...

Mike Bradley is no stranger to drag racing, and he has been a keen fan of the triple diamond brand from the start. Cutting his teeth in his 4WD EVO 2 ‘LTZPLA’ he got the drag racing bug bad, but despite a powerful engine package Mike never really had much success in the EVO2. Mike was smart enough to see the light and quickly realized that 4WD drag racing was never going to get him the sort of times he wanted....

In the world of drag racing, New Zealander Rod Harvey has become one of the most recognized - and feared - drivers in the sport compact category. At the recent 2010 Jamboree event, Rod Harvey not only broke the Australian Pro Turbo record, but has also become the fastest in sport compact history with a 6.41 @ 224.21mph pass in the finals. Fresh from taking out J20, we caught up with Rod Harvey as he prepared his Rayglass Celica for another assault down the 1320. We caught up at Victor Bray's...

With the official results for Jamboree 2010 now released, we're able to show you our coverage of one of Australia's most famous drag racing events. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Jamboree is undoubtedly one of the biggest racing events on in the Australian calendar. Pac Performance's Mazda 6 currently holds the world record as the fastest rotary-powered car. Its best run at Jamboree was 6.893 @ 200.62mph. In the final, driver George Rehayem broke out before running a 6.960 @ 207.34mph...

The GTR from hell. The last time I witnessed Reece McGregor's NZ based R32 GTR was back in 2006 when I first started taking photos. It hasn't changed very much on the exterior, but has come back to Australia with a load more power. Let's see if a new record is on the books. This past Tuesday was quite a large day of testing for this weekend's Jamboree drag event; the most important Australian drag meeting of the year. Reece McGregor ran an 8.3 @ 184mph pass on his second run, but...

It's time to conclude the coverage of the 2010 Tuning Powers, a show that despite its reduced size, still managed to pack so much tuning goodness into one place. Take the Impreza in the above opening shot, looks ordinary enough, but until you take a closer look you won't actually notice it's been widened both at the front and rear to replicate the lines of the limited edition coupe-only 22B! This is a car from an era when Subaru still hadn't acted upon its masochistic tendencies when...

You can always expect to see a few Rauh Welt cars at the Tuning Powers show and for this year the usual 930 Stella Artois demo car was replaced by a pair I hadn't seen before. I didn't even know Nakai-san had given the RWB treatment to a zenki S14 and to say it looks amazing would be a major understatement. No matter what he works on you can always expect him to stun with his unmistakable style... ...and things are looking pretty tight in the stance department. I found the description on...

It doesn't take much to get my inner- otaku to shine through. All you have to do is mention a few magic key words like counterbalanced crank , external wastegate or titanium valves and you got my attention. It's precisely why I get more excited about smaller shows than big yearly events like Tokyo Auto Salon. Yes I am a nerd, but there is nothing wrong with that as staring at newly-created custom engine parts is far more appealing to me than looking at yet another wildly colored show car...

Time for another Kadett spotlight, maybe a bit less extreme than the last one I posted... .Well, his car isn't as crazy on the outside but under the hood/bonnet is another matter. The exterior consists of chrome bumpers and a fresh new color. Under the hood is this immaculate Calibra engine with almost custom everything. Just look at the thickness of the intercooler. The engine gained a turbo that's mated to a custom exhaust manifold. I believe that the owner said it had around 400bhp, that...

It's not too often that we post cars from Ebay here, but I'm going to make an exception. The other day my dad and I were checking out some of the old station wagons up for sale on the site when we came across this '65 Plymouth Belvedere Wagon gasser.
The moment I saw the car, I knew I had to share it here.
A gasser station wagon? It's hard to get any more maverick or misfit than that!...

Going along the events like the Retro Show you get to meet enthusiasts, folks who spend their own time and money on things that go faster. It is completely different from the mindset of professional sport encountered at places like Le Mans and none the worse for that. We all started as petrol heads even though some of us are lucky enough to scrape a living from this frivolous activity. So as I strolled round the paddock area I thought it would be appropriate to make notes and tell the stories of...

I noticed that there's been a lot of demand for Nissan Stagea content this month. I'm currently on the hunt (tips anyone?) for interesting Stageas to showcase, but for now here's a shot I took of one getting ready for its run down the strip last year at the Trust Zeroyon Festival in Japan.

I was on the phone just now with Andy Barnes from the UK Time Attack/NFS European Drift Series and was discussing our plans for AWD month with him. He suggested I look up this brand new Evo 8 drag car run out of the UK from an outfit called JR Motorsports... The AWD 1400bhp car has been built to a target of 6 seconds if you can believe that... Madness! We are going to need to send a Speedhunter round their shop to see what this car is about. :R

A Sunny will never look the same to me after seeing this drag version.
Mike had taken pictures of this car previously, during one his Speedhunters' features on the Tuning Powers Show in Tokyo, but I've just found a video of this same car on the Beeoneoneoh blog....
