One down, eleven to go. And as is customary here at Speedhunters, we'll kick off a new month with a look at what's in store. For February we've decided to focus on Game Changers ; cars that sparked trends, rewrote the rulebook or rocked their sport. We'll be taking a look through various car cultures to uncover the icons that have reached legendary status. As a taste of what's to come on the Japanese front, Dino has a stream of features on some of the more influential demo cars...

Sometime during 2012, we will clock our 2.5 millionth mile traveled for the sake of Speedhunting. That's the equivalent of flying around the world 100 times. Last week we tallied up some stats, and it spat out some interesting numbers. In 2011, the team racked up 1500 miles every day. As each week went by, our photo archives increased by five terabytes. During the past year, our camera shutters blinked 559,896 times. And all of that was done to keep you in touch with car cultures from around...

Well, that’s it. We’ve reached the last page on the calendar. While many people will be gearing up for the new year and all the promise that comes with it, we’ll be looking back on everything that has occurred over the past 12 months. Throughout December, the Speedhunters team will sift through every image from every shoot to choose our Photos of the Year . These hand selected images not only represent our best of the best... ...But they also act as a summary of everything that...

Greetings from Las Vegas. Like many in the car industry, I've made the annual pilgrimage to the temple that is the SEMA Show. As I walked the seemingly endless halls - the show covers some 2,000,000 sq ft - I noticed that many of the patrons had something in common; and I'm not referring to their passion for cars. Everyone it seemed, had bags under their eyes. Indeed, the past week has been tiring for the global aftermarket collective. Hundreds of car builders have been working around the...

Street cars are a black art. There's no rulebook when it comes to street cars, leading to many different interpretations and beliefs. For all the science that's poured into the building of a race car, the same can be said for the craft that goes into screwing together a street car. Speedhunters is dedicating October to the artisans from around the world who have built the toughest streeters. The theme for the next four weeks is Street Cars and Sleepers....

Uh oh. We seem to have a slight problem for the month of September. In some ways it's actually a good problem to have, but for me it's a pretty stressful dilemma. You see, we simply do not have enough Speedhunters to cover all the events that we want to. This period of the year is always busy, with various championships hitting their peak along with key events taking place all around the world. Most of the team have already packed the suitcases we'll be living out of for the next four...

Speedhunting isn't as glamorous as you might think. As we spend so much time travelling between photo shoots and events, we often have to do our work on the road. You'll find us in far corners of the world, hunched over our laptops in coffee shops, internet cafes or anywhere we might be able to leech wi-fi. Our Flash Results from Formula DRIFT for example, are often hasty affairs. Immediately after the trophy presentation you'll find us scrambling to get the post done while the Need for...

A few days ago I turned a year older, which made me realise that next year will mark a decade since I started working in the car industry. Looking back on those years, it's been amazing to see how trends have evolved, flourished and died. But what I've also noticed is that people don't particularly like that word. 'Trends' has become a bit of a dirty thing to say these days. There's something uncool about being labelled a trend follower, and I think it's because people...

Everyone here at Speedhunters lives and breathes cars and, if you're reading this, then chances are you do too. For me, cars have been the one constant in my life. The only toys I wanted to play with as a kid were the ones with four wheels. In school, I'd doodle fantasy race tracks during class. In university, well, I'd just skip lectures to work on my car instead. My first few jobs had nothing to do with cars, and I remember waking up every morning with this empty, bored feeling. I yearned...

"One day, I'm going to..." I've lost count of how many times I've heard - or said - this during a conversation with a fellow car nut. And almost every dinner conversation I've had with the Speedhunters team eventually becomes a discussion of the events we dream of one day going to, or the ones that left a lasting impression on us. While cars are the material centrepiece, I think it's the experiences that they bring that are most valuable. With this in mind, Speedhunters...

Over the past couple of years, Speedhunters has brought to you countless themed months, with dedicated specials on a variety of manufacturers. But April signifies the last time we’ll have a month-long theme. That’s right, come May Speedhunters will be bringing you your daily fix in a slightly different way (more on that in the coming weeks). Before we move away from themed months however, there’s one genre that needs addressing; an itch amongst the Speedhunters team that still needs to be scratched. You see, one manufacturer has been glaringly missing from our monthly themed spotlight. And that manufacturer is Honda. ...

Has it really been a month since my last editorial? For me it seems like it was just a week ago that I announced our February theme, yet here we are saying hello to March. Rod and I have been incredibly busy the past couple of months with the upcoming release of SHIFT2 UNLEASED, but we've also been working on a nice Speedhunters surprise for this month. Before I get to the surprise, let's talk about March's theme. For this month, Speedhunters will be focusing on Meets. In underground...

Greetings from rainy Vancouver! A few days after I celebrated the New Year in Sydney, I packed all of my belongings into a container to make the big move from Australia to Canada. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind thus far, as I’ve been flat-out on SHIFT2 UNLEASHED while also getting to grips with living in the opposite side of the world. For the month of February, Speedhunters will be running a theme that I'm extremely excited about: Builds . Up til now I've had a bad habit of selling...

In my opinion, Speedhunters is more than just a car blog. I sometimes like to think of Speedhunters as a kind of time capsule. Every day of the year, we take a snapshot of car culture, immortalising it in these online pages. I’ve been spending a lot of time looking back through the older articles, and it’s a fascinating (and seemingly never-ending) glimpse at how the scene evolved over the past two and a half years. To kick off our next chapter of Speedhunting, we'll be presenting...

Over the past few days I’ve been spending a lot of time travelling, jumping from Sydney Australia to Los Angeles and now I’ve just landed in Vancouver. While long haul flights and jetlag have proved a constant battle (what would we do without coffee and energy drinks?), I’m starting to get on top of waking up when I should be asleep and sleeping when I should be awake. Although I was only in LA for three days, I spent some valuable time meeting up with Rod, Mike Garrett, Linhbergh...

When you think of 'speed', you tend to picture a car that's, well, sporty. A hot hatch, coupe, fastback, or perhaps a convertible. But what about the body styles that are slightly more... unconventional? You don't usually associate 'speed' with 4-door variations, wagons, pick-ups and most certainly not vans. That's because most of them are, well, rather unsporty. But are they really?...

Three Images from three continents... The first from the UK, shot by Paddy McGrath. The second photograph was snapped by Casey Dhnaram at the Jamboree event in Australia. And finally we have a photograph from shooter extraordinaire David Lister. He captured this image at the California Hot Rod Reunion two years ago at Famosa Raceway in Bakersfield, California USA. These three very similar images depict a one of the most important racing scenes in the world. A competition style which, like drifting...

I'm sure most of the Speedhunters in our little team here would say they've made some fantastic new friends as a result of our automotive adventures. I for one just love chatting it up with fellow car fans about our shared favourite subject. Going to car events in many ways is like coming home to a second family of like minded individuals. We are all part of an increasingly interconnected automotive community. So we thought, for September, it would be interesting to chat with a few of the...

Have you ever come across someone that you consider "old" who continues to harp on about how things were better in their day... Perhaps this has something to do with age... do we start to latch on to icons from our youth as we get older? Do we become less open to new ideas and styles? Does our point-of-view harden, and our personality stiffens into a comfort zone? Hmmm... well what ever the case, I must be getting old, as I don't like new cars as much as I used to. Perhaps it's...

You may have noticed that we've been adding new features and media partners to Speedhunters for the past few months. I'm quite pleased that the site has been continuing to evolve, but in all honesty, the overall look of Speedhunters is getting a bit long in the tooth these days. We've been needing to rework the website's design for some time now, and FINALLY have started to develop some new GFX to update the styles. At the start of this design process, we investigated whether or not...
