"Offset is everything" : This is a mantra which many of you guys have been preaching for some time now... But I want to question if wheel offset is indeed the be-all-end-all of modified cars aesthetics around the world. For me cars with offset wheels are usually great, but it's a rule that doesn't always apply to all cars across multiple styles and genres. So let me put this alternative idea forward: Stance is Everything. How the car sits on its wheels -the stance, is the one element...

Sometimes the monthly Speedhunters themes have a very narrow focus and the site becomes becomes flooded with stories about single subject matter. This does work well if the theme is a broad subject matter which can be sliced and diced in multiple ways. However for October, we're going to go with a lightly applied theme, to allow the site to breathe a bit. From what I can tell, you guys enjoyed BMW month, but we now need to relax with themed stories for a while. So for October, we thought it would...

When I look back on the past year of Speedhunting, some of our monthly themes have turned out to be more popular than others. I suppose as some of you guys are very specialized in your own area of automotive interest, it may be tough to spend four weeks reading about a theme you don't really care about, right? However, one of the main focuses of Speedhunters.com is to break down the barriers between automotive subcultures and highlight as many car subjects as possible. So far, we've received...

If I bring up the subject of universal pursuits common to most people, I'm sure a few items will pop into your mind. Take love for instance... the majority of people I know are busy trying to find this, or keep what they have in their lives working... I would also say that humanity doesn't seem to be very satisfied with the velocity possible with the unassisted body: walking and running just isn't that interesting is it? No... so we spend a huge amount of effort building all manner of...

If you look at the history of All Wheel Drive in both Rallying and Circuit racing, and you compare this to the timeline of the automobile in the 20th century, it really hasn't been that long that AWD systems have been a success in motorsports. It was only in the early 1980s that AWD came to the forefront of rallying with the introduction of the Audi Quattro to the WRC. And in circuit racing AWD was not a success until the late eighties with the Audi's move to road racing in the US and Nissan's...

Welcome to the next month of your life... is 2009 treating you ok? Or are these tough times bringing the spirit of things down just a little bit? I suppose it's hard to keep your chin up when all you hear about in the news is doom and gloom... oh well... we still can dream about a nice future can't we?... Perhaps this daydream can include some high end supercars too no? Why not!... after any acheivement in life normally starts out with a visualization of some kind. So with this in mind we...

Do we have any non-believers in the audience? Anyone who doesn't get excited by hotted up cars on the edge-of-no-control ? People who are not thrilled when they see a machine being deliberately taken within centimeters of destruction? Side by side, heart pounding, mind blowing action all day long? Vaughn Gittin JR summed up the universal appeal of this new motorsport: "If you don't get exciting by drifting, then you aren't breathing" . I think that sums it up perfectly. Once...

Nothing ever stays the same does it? Even if we don't actively seek change in our lives, it has its own way of finding us.... I am thinking these thoughts as we get ready to start year two of the Speedhunters project. The site has built up a good sized audience far faster than we could have ever imagined, and most of this success is down to the dedication of the Speedhunters editorial team who work tirelessly - day in and day - out to bring you the coolest bits of new school car culture from...

I remember reading the results of a study about the relative fan bases of the various Formula 1 teams.... Ferrari came out as the world's most popular team, no surprise there at all... and at the bottom with the least number of devoted fans? Toyota. Somehow the company hadn't managed to create a strong following in the world's number one form of motorsports. Now this seems a little out-of-sync with my understanding of true Toyota aficionados... there are many international communities...

When I was a kid, my absolute favourite place in the world was Westwood Raceway. It was quite an amazing location, carved into the side of a mountain outside Vancouver, Canada. In the late 70s and early 80s, I used to spend a lot of time there, as my father and I used to race gokarts. I was fairly quick in my time, but I didn't really like racing that much to be honest... I found it to be quite stressful. For me, the most fun part about being at Westwood, was watching the car races. After each...

Did you like Nissan month on Speedhunters? Unlike our Porsche month in September, I haven't seen one complaint about an overload of Nissan content yet! Do we have a slight bias towards Japanese cars perhaps? ;> As you can see, we haven't quite finished with our Nissan themed stories just yet. Mike has some more coverage from the Nismo Festival to complete and we're still ironing out the final touches on our R35 GTR Super GT film.... Looking ahead to December, we have some very cool...

Did you guys watch the F1 season finale yesterday? Wow that was intense. Probably the most dramatic race I've ever seen on the tele. I just about died from anxiety during that last lap! Congrats to Lewis from all of us at Speedhunters. So the racing season is winding down; Hamilton is now the F1 World Champion, Audi have cleaned up in both DTM and Sports Cars and we have a host of International Drift Champions on their way to Long Beach. It’ll be pretty interesting to see how the majority...

Wow it seems like it was only a few days ago I was writing about our plans for Porsche month... Where did the time go?... This month we'll be diving into the roots of the vibrant and varied car cultures that make up the Southern California car scene. Los Angeles and the areas that surround have given rise to many car tribes over the years and this month we'll be slicing and dicing our way through them. One of the first items on the menu will be the build up to the Formula Drift Season finale...

Around two weeks ago, the Speedhunters crew had the special opportunity to meet and interview famed Japanese Porsche tuner and drift culture pioneer, Nakai-san from Rauh Welt. As the man who created so many of the key style elements that we see on today's drift cars, I wanted to try and understand why he had chosen to now devote his life to building and tuning Porsches. Why would one of the original founders of the old school drift crew, Rough World, only focus on building rear-engined German...

What is my name again?.... What country am I in?....Do you speak English?... or should I say Parlez vous anglais? I'm getting a bit disoriented here as the past 10 days or so have been an absolute whirlwind of activity... It went something like so: Last Friday Antonio and I flew into Frankfurt. Saturday we rented a car and drove to the Nurburgring to check out DTM qualifying. Sunday we flew to meet John Brooks in Munich and photographed the new BMW Welt and Museum. We then blasted up the autobahn...

Antonio maintains that I should really be receiving a commission from Facebook based on the number of people I have coerced into opening accounts. In my warped mind it’s a perfect way to enhance the friendships with my pals from across the planet. I mean how can we really be friends in this high speed infomedia age without friendship management software? Without it I'm sure many of my relationships would have drifted apart over the past year from neglect. I mean who has time to write individually...

As I write this posting, I'm looking out over a rather grey, cold and moody Vancouver and am having to remind myself that this is indeed June. It’s supposed to be summer time right? Time to get outside and DO things…. Well so I keep telling myself anyway but ATM the launch of the Speedhunters project has become an all consuming proposition. It’s a little hard to right now to pull myself away from the screens as we get the project into a good operating rhythm and plan our features and travel plans for the month ahead.
Speaking of plans, June is shaping up to be an exciting month for Speedhunters:...

Working on the world's number one car racing video game does have its privileges. One can get pretty deeply connected into the universes of drifting, racing, new car launches, car builders, automotive magazine and the personalities that drive the action. For some people on the Need for Speed team, this is a dream made in heaven. What could be better than submerging oneself in all aspects of worldwide car culture? For us this is an all encompassing lifestyle; we breathe, eat and sleep all things...
