Hello Speedhunters! I hope you’ve had a good holiday season and are looking forward to the new racing year. I've just returned from the Dubai 24 hours and have written up this driver's blog of my time in the UAE. One thing new for this year is that I arrived in Dubai as the reigning champion of the 24 Hours. I knew we had a good chance to repeat the result. The most important thing with Dubai is the strategy to navigate the Balance of Performance (BOP) rules. As a driver it feels a...

When first asked to help judge the NFS Euro Spokesmodel search , I jumped at the opportunity. In addition to helping out my friends in Team NFS, I was eager to share the experience of a lifetime with the spokesmodel candidates. Along the way, I met a lot of wonderful girls and I have to admit that it became increasingly difficult to pick out clear winners as the search progressed. Yet now that the project has come to an end, I am equally excited to introduce you to the two lovely ladies who will...

In part one we introduced some of the principle terms involved in setting up a race car, and then in part two Edward Sandstrom, Team Need For Speed driver in the FIA European GT3 Championship, explained how he goes about finding the optimum set-up and copes with the ever-changing nature of a race car out on track. I'll wrap with Edward talking about the team approach to a race weekend: how the team supports the two drivers and the procedures they follow to keep the car in optimum condition. Edward...

In part one of this story , I talked with Team Need For Speed FIA GT3 driver Edward Sandstrom about the complexity of setting up a racing car, including issues like wing angles, suspension, tyres and data analysis. Over the next two parts we'll move on to how Edward and Team Need For Speed then practically apply these principles over a typical race weekend, starting with Edward talking us through the evolution of a set-up over a race weekend, using the last round of the 2011 FIA GT3 Championship...

Hours are spent between engineers and drivers describing how a racing car feels in pursuit of that perfect set-up, often accompanied by the universal driver language of hand gestures. The most effective wing in the world isn't going to help you if it's at the wrong angle, or if your camber is out by a fraction and the car is eating its tyres. Winning or losing can be predefined by mere millimetres of difference in the configuration of each aspect of a racing car; every part must work in harmony...

Tommy Milner: Race day arrives, and I’m feeling good. The start looked like it was definitely going to be wet, and it was. Edward Sandstrom: I was relieved that the race would soon start. I felt in good shape and the experience from last year made it easier to prepare. There was a big chance it would be warmer this year, so I really tried to be prepared. But actually, you learn from this sort of race how you personally react. I think it isn’t the same for all of us. During two hours driving...

It's been an eventful couple of weeks, to say the least. In the time between my first blog and now, I've celebrated my 27th birthday, flown to Norway for the craziness of Gatebil, and made my way back home to good ole' San Francisco. Yet, no matter how much time has passed, NOTHING can dim the memories from my experience in Germany at the infamous Nürburgring. So, as promised, I'm back to share with you the 24 hours in which I was fortunate enough to witness the most intense...

Tommy Milner: Nordschleife. There isn't another track in the world that is the training ground for just about every modern sports car today and also hosts one of the biggest endurance races in the world. The “North Loop” is one of the most demanding circuits in the world, both mentally and physically. One lap on your own is tough enough as it is; throw in 200+ others, from the most bad-ass GT machines to little Renault Clios and everything in between; and manage that for twenty four...

Hi guys. I hope you're enjoying our Nurburgring 24 Hour coverage! Tonight it's my turn to prep the Behind the Scenes coverage, as Paddy and Andy are still at the track shooting. Organizing our Speedhunting trip to the Nurburgring 24H isn't straight forward. Compared to other events, this is on a whole other level of magnitude. So I've made a point to pace myself. I haven't even ventured out to shoot the Nordschleife yet, so far it's Paddy and Andy Blackmore who've been...

What’s up Speedhunters! It's me Edward, typing away on my computer again to report on my recent race in the FIA GT3 European Championship at Silverstone. Time is as always flying and at the moment I’m visiting a sunny Sweden, but will soon pack my bags and head over to Germany. This Friday I will spend some time in the workshop with my team, Schubert Motorsport, to prepare things for the Nurburgring 24HR. At the same time, I will visit my good friend friend Mattias Ekström at...

After a brief hiatus, the GT3 European Championship returned to Silverstone this weekend. In a close fought Race 1 today, The Team Need for Speed BMW Z4 driven by Edward Sandstrom/Abdulaziz al-Faisal finished 4th and Csaba Walter/Claudia Hurtgen finished 6th.
As a treat we've uploaded some raw, unedited footage of Edward Sandström's practice lap on the new Silverstone circuit. So turn up your speakers, sit back and watch Edward push the
Team Need For Speed BMW Z4 GT3 to the limit!

Edward: Hi there Speedhunters fans, I'm Edward Sandström and I'm racing the #6 Team Need For Speed BMW Z4 GT3 in the European FIA GT3 series and at the Nurburgring and Spa 24 Hour races this season. The season has just started and I must say I have been looking forward to getting back in the car since our Dubai victory back in January. In the meantime I have been doing a lot of sport to keep in good shape. In Sweden we do a lot of cross-country skiing in wintertime – this year...

To kick off the start of Team Need for Speed's FIA GT3 season, here's a look back at their 1st place run at the Dubai 24h race earlier this year. Hopefully this video sheds some light on what it's like to literally race around the clock, and is backed by an Ekstrak score. The TNFS Z4 GT3 dominated in Dubai, and I'm excited to see how the new improved Z4 does this season!

If one considers motorsport to be a somewhat polite form of warfare, then Edward Sandstrom and Team NFS Schubert Racing must be feeling a just wee bit confident right now. I'm sure you would to, if you had such a formidable new weapon in your possession! Yes ladies and gentlemen, I present the completely revamped BMW Z4 GT3, now complete with Team Need for Speed livery. Wow...
Fellow Speedhunter, Jonathan Moore and I will be on site to witness the debut of the new car this weekend in Portugal. Plans are to stream all the GT1 and GT3 races on Speedhunters too, so where ever you live, there's no reason to miss the on-track action.

Edward : Okay let’s see what happened from early morning and the battle to the flag at 14:00 PM. I seem happy and it’s hard to not be when you’re in the lead. The true thing is that you don’t want too be too happy. So much can still happen and a small silly mistake can easy destroy everything. I was telling myself over and over again to keep concentration and don’t think about race victory yet . Tommy: 04:26 AM: Everything to this point was still going smooth. We had...

Tommy Milner: What's up SpeedHunters! Welcome to a two part blog about the Dubai 24 Hours from half of the winning driver lineup, Edward Sandstrom and myself, Tommy Milner. The Dubai 24 Hour race is, for some people, a warm up for the 2011 season and for others their biggest race of the season. I've known about The Dubai 24 Hour for a couple years. Recently, it's been getting more attention in the world motorsport press as more well known teams and drivers make the trip to the UAE. This...

Congratulations to Team Need for Speed and Schubert Motorsport for claiming 3rd overall in the 2010 FIA GT3 Teams Championship! The final championship standings were only confirmed today, after the FIA International Court of Appeal reinstated round winner (and eventual champions) Prospeed Competition after earlier being disqualified. Well done Patrick, Edward, Claudia, Csaba and Schubert Motorsport, and the entire Team Need for Speed for such a great debut season! - Charles Kha Team Need for Speed

As I sit in a petrol station-come-hotel in northern Spain the day before the next FIA GT1 round, finally I've been able to finish off this race report post wrapping up the last two races of the 2010 European GT3 Championship from Zolder in Belgium. It was a weekend that showed off the best of GT3, with close racing and action a-plenty. With the Drivers' Title already in the hands of the Keilwitz/Hohenadel #101 Callaway Corvette, it was down to the Prospeed Porsche team to try and wrest the...

Hello again to all the Speedhunters and Need For Speed fans ! After a lot of fighting we have now have achieved our best weekend in FIA GT3 so far. In Paul Ricard we got things more together and finally took a step into the fight for podium finishes. It was a really awesome feeling and I will now tell you the story behind the weekend. When the balaclava goes on it's time to focus, focus. The weekend was hot. Over 30 degrees celsius all the time and that makes your preperations even more important...

At the FIA GT3 race at Jarama, Team Need For Speed driver Edward Sandström had a crash during Saturday practice. Thanks to an in-car camera, we can witness the crash in this video. Edward tries to compensate for the oversteer, but ends up spinning into the wall - loosing his trunk and hood in the process.
This weekend, we are in the south of France at Paul Ricard for the next round of FIA GT/GT3. Stay posted this weekend for updates from the track.
Be sure to check out Jonathan Moore's coverage of FIA GT3 at Jarama.
