March 18 turned out to be a pivotal day for the famous McLaren team. The day was marked for the launch of their new supercar, the McLaren MP4-12C – announced as a concept last year and now about to be unveiled for the first time in public at the architecturally stunning McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. But amazing as the car is in its own right, it also marked a huge shift for the team as they announced they were entering the shark-infested waters of becoming a car manufacturer...

One look at the picture above and you can instantly imagine the rumbling of all that Detroit metal. Each of the three cars give you a completely different sort badassery. The green Plymouth Valiant is classically sophisticated, the yellow Dodge Challenger is a rugged badass, and the Viper is just pure, raw, gut wrenching power. The guys at Hotchkis Suspension held a track day at Willow Springs International Raceway and invited Speedhunters to come and drive their various selection of tuned muscle...

Today we got word of a new motorsport event that will go down this summer near Virginia City, Nevada.
The Spectre 341 Challenge is a hillclimb event being put on Spectre Performance in the spirit of the old Virginia City Hillclimb. This no-holds barred run down a closed mountain road is open to everything from pro-touring muscle cars to tuner cars. They must, however, be street-registered vehicles.
More details are on the way, but it's sounding like quite the event and we are planning on making the trip up to Nevada to check it out.
For now, you can find more, including the rules and entry info on the official event website.

Let's start with part two of my coverage of the Streetpower event at Zandvoort. I couldn't resist starting with the Bonder E36 by DBM Engineering. It certainly is one of the most extreme BMW's I have seen in a while. It even managed to set the second fastest time of the day with 1:50.063. Here's another car built and maintained by the guys from Jeroentje.nl . This time a R33 GTS-T with a RB25 engine that has been rated around 325bhp. It seems like fluorescent colors were hot during...

Here's some coverage from my first event of the year -the season opener in Holland. Streetpower by Automaxx is an event with a mix of activities at Zandvoort. It ranges from Gymkhana to Time Attack and off course show and shine on the paddock. I spent most of the day shooting the Time Attack cars and I was surprised to see how serious some of these machines have become over the years. Holland has made some enormous steps forward regarding car tuning. I didn't expect to see a R35 GT-R especially...

As we gear up for the onslaught of the 2010 season, everyone seems to be getting busy. Yesterday I tagged along with Chris Rado and the World Racing team to a dyno session for their time attack Scion, and in just a bit I'll be heading out to the Inland Empire to get the latest on the Rockstar Drift tC. Before that though, I need to finish up my coverage from the weekend's Famoso March Meet....

Moving right along, here's the second part of my trip to Famoso Raceway for the 2010 March Meet.
March has always seemed like the unofficial start of the racing season, and taking in this drag race culture was a fantastic way for me to kick off the 2010 season....

It's not often that a team opens up their doors to the general public, and certainly not with the open arms that greeted people at the Sumo Power open day down in a surprisingly sunny Rye on the south coast of England. The entire factory was completely accessible and the whole range of JR Motorsport and Sumo Power's activities on display, with helpful staff able to talk through everything from CNC machining to the chassis dyno and, of course, the new Nissan GT-R GT1 World Championship weapons...

This weekend a huge number of drag racers gathered at Famoso Raceway near Bakersfield to take part in the annual March Meet. The March Meet has long been one of the biggest nostalgia drag gatherings around and this year was no different, even with rain off and on throughout the weekend. With Sunday looking like the day with the smallest chance of the wet stuff, I headed up to Famoso to have a look....

In the first part of the Omega Oil Tsukuba track day coverage someone made a comment that Tsukuba seems to always be packed with some pretty mean cars. The track's location and proximity to Tokyo makes it the most popular circuit in the Kanto area and is as challenging to drivers of extreme modified cars as it is to those with more humble machines. Fuji Speedway for example is a very fast track where power is something that you really need to get through those fast straights and corners. I decided...

After the great feedback I got from the Battle Evome coverage a few weeks back I just knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to head to Tsukuba circuit again. This time the event was organized by Omega Oil, which holds free practice sessions at the little circuit in Ibaraki-ken throughout the year. Omega customers are invited to bring their cars out for the day for some fun and practice but I didn't realize how cool this day would turn out to be until I drove into the paddock and saw just...

I have been following the Battle Evome series for a long time, so it was cool to see that our own Speedhunter in Japan, Dino, was able to catch a glimpse of the series with his latest feature. The cars keep getting better and better so I want to share the three fastest vehicles that raced last Sunday here. I think most of you are familiar with these cars.... First up, the Arios Okuyama RX-7. They came in at 1'00.035 making them the third fastest of the day. Not at all bad when you consider that...

Hello fellow Speedhunters! My name is Brian Bogan and I live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, about an hour south of Ocean City, Maryland. OC is the home to several car shows and cruise ins a year, most notably H2O. This show has become one of the premier VW and Audi shows in the country, ballooning to over a thousand show cars, with several thousand cars in attendance over the two day show. This was the 12th anniversary of this show, and by far the biggest and wettest....

Some of you were wondering why a lot of the cars/drivers from the Battle Evome time attack events don't participate in the yearly Tsukuba Super Lap Battle. Seeing the times a lot of these cars managed to post had me asking myself the exact same thing, the best example being Suzuki-san, owner of the Scorch S15 above who has lapped in a best time of 55.5 seconds. Like he has announced on his blog he is now shooting for that extra half a second to break the 54-second barrier! That is Cyber Evo/Tarzan...

Time to take a a break from posting your guest blogs and finish up my coverage of the 2010 Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona. Here, we'll take a look at some of the interesting cars in the indoor show, a few from outside, and some of the historic hot rods from the "Cars That Made a Difference" exhibit....

We cover a lot of grassroots drift events here on Speedhuntres.com but what about those that prefer to grip around a track? Well don't worry because a couple of weeks ago I attended a BE-Circuit event at Tsukuba Circuit where I got to see, after quite a long time, some proper time attack action. There is nothing amateur about the cars and drivers that participate at this event. Sure most of them are simple owners out to have some fun, but their competitive nature has pushed them to create some...

OK, let's continue right where I left off last time with a look at the "History of the Race Car" exhibit from the 61st Grand National Roadster Show.
In the history of drag racing, there are few things cooler than mid '60s production cars like the two above....

I feel like I need to show you guys as much as I possibly can from the HKS Premium Day, as this event was simply packed with some of the best tuner cars in Japan. We have already seen the HKS demonstrators and the Time Attack machines, not to mention some of the privately owned Hyper Challenge cars, so to finish the coverage it's time to take a look at pretty much everything else that was on display on the paddock. There was a good mix of old and new, like this original HKS Kansai Service BNR32...

For this part of my Grand National Roadster Show coverage, I'll be showcasing some of the historic machines found inside the "History of the Race Car" display. This was the one of the main features of this year's show, and the exhibit more than delivered. Nearly 100 years of American motorsport history were packed into one of the large halls at the Pomona Fairplex....

Tsukuba may well be where the whole Time Attack thing originated from but it made for such a refreshing change seeing some of Japan's fastest tuner cars blasting around Fuji on Sunday at the HKS Premium Day. The long straight and the faster corners throw in a whole new challenge for competing teams with factors like aerodynamics coming in to play more. A lot of cars run longer final drives to gain extra top speed and resort to new suspension settings to tackle the challenging F1 track. The Autech...
