Earlier this month when I headed to Willow Springs for All Star Bash, I went to not only to check out one the best grassroots drift events in the world, but to meet up with the guys from Drift Union, who had loaded up their matching purple drift sleds and towed them from their home base British Columbia down to Southern California. ...

Words can't describe how epic this year's RX-7 meeting turned out to be. With participants coming from all areas of the Kanto region, not to mention the usual participation of iconic tuner cars like this Scoot FC3S, this is one gathering people won't be forgetting in a hurry. But this was a small look at the 7's Day celebrations, because rotary enthusiasts met all across the country, not to mention the various circuit events that were organized. To find out more about these local...

I thought the 7's meeting might lose momentum on its move from Daikoku PA to Umihotaru PA, but boy was I wrong! Despite an unexpected accident in the Aqua Line tunnel after a young kid in an FD decided to start slaloming through traffic at speed, the influx of buzzing rotary engines was very much constant until later on in the night. In no time at all, most of the cars that were at Daikoku had taken over the parking area, both the lower ground level... ...as well as up on the third floor. Now...

I don't think I've ever had to shoot so quickly at a meet like I did at the 7's Day in Daikoku last week. With the Police making it very obvious that they wanted everyone out as soon as possible, people began to leave pretty quickly once a couple of patrol cars began driving around the parking area. With the rumble of rotary engines being floored on the spiraling exit roads that bring you up onto the Wangan ... ...I started to run around, trying my best to immortalize as many cars as...

You will have to forgive me for the delay in starting up this 7's meeting coverage, but over the last few days I've been buzzing around all over the place, spending the day with Nakai-san and Toshi at Rauh Welt on Friday, blasting up and down mountain roads yesterday with a bunch of sport's car loving people and attempting to catch a little shut eye in the interim. But before I show you all some cool widebody Porsches and action from Hakone, let's head back to Daikoku PA... ...for...

It never fails to amaze just how much dedication rotary owners seem to have here in Japan. Knowing that things begin to warm up pretty early during 7's Day I made my way down to the Daikoku PA at 5:30 last night and the place was already full! When it comes to word of mouth gatherings there is nothing that comes close to this meeting, with rotary aficionados coming from every corner of Japan for a night of celebrations. The selection of cars was as mouthwatering as ever, with all sorts of Wankel...

What a busy weekend we have ahead. Before I get back to packing up my gear for tomorrow's NFS SoCal event, I thought I'd post this high res desktop shot of George's FC3S RX7 at XDC Rd.1. There's just something I like about this shot through fence.
Head over to the Desktops section now to pick it up in widescreen and standard format.

I hope you guys don't mind me continuing to present SHIFT2 UNLEASHED; I'm just so excited to have been involved with such a great project that I can't stop talking about it! Last week I was able to give some info about the physics and our production process. For this week's article I wanted to showcase one of the new cars being introduced to the SHIFT franchise: the Mazda RX-7 FC3S . It's one of several retro car models we've added to the game, specifically for you guys: the...

I've been noticing a growing trend in the States which involves car enthusiasts moving away from the aesthetically pleasing but not-so-much-drivable scene that has dominated the past few years. Those people are now taking their cars they've spent so much money in making look cool to actually drive them at their local race tracks. The Stateside drift missile movement is one of the extremes of this growing performance-centric trend. Cars that are all function and zero form. Drifters, who have...

Living in a cramped metropolis like Tokyo can be quite stressful, especially if you are into cars. I see all kinds of exotics on a regular basis around the city, all traveling at a max of 30 mph, or sitting in traffic. I don't get it. Why would you even bother? On top of the obvious show off factor, driving a sports car around built up areas in Japan is nothing short of pointless and that goes for the outskirts too, which most times are even more crowded than the heart of the city as there are...

Towards 10 pm on Wednesday night Umihotaru PA had officially been declared a rotary-only zone with the a lot of people from Daikoku having successfully transferred over with their cars. The scene in the covered level of the parking area reminded me of a certain movie, although I didn't actually see anyone drift up the access ramps or any illegal races being set up. What I did see was the most stunning array of modified cars, just like these two FDs above here. If you are a long time follower...

With the Police pretty much bringing the party over at Daikoku to a rather abrupt end, understandably so, the masses of RX-7 owners were just not going to end things at 8 pm. So, like most years, it was over to one of the coolest locations in the bay, literally. Umihotaru sits on an artificial island bang right in the middle of the Tokyo bay, right where the tunnel portion of the Aqua Line pops up and turns into a long bridge until it reaches the shores of Chiba-ken in Kisarazu city. The ¥3,000...

As darkness fell on Daikoku the other night the rotary presence had no intention of dying down, much like the rain. It was obvious people were there to enjoy themselves, and the crappy weather nor the lack of space, was going to stop them. Along with the RE-Amemiya crew was this itasha , one of many I spotted on the night. Talking to people it seems this trend of covering cars in anime characters and graphics is loosing popularity but I seem to see more than ever these days so I don't think that...

It's that time of the year again and what a special annual RX-7 gathering it all turned out to be last night. I've been going to these meetings for years now, held religiously every 7th of July or "7-7," at Daikoku PA, but before it all got started I was really getting worried. With the rainy season still doing its best to spoil the summer season here in Japan it was not looking too good with on and off showers throughout the day. The 7's meet gets going very early compared...

I was taking a quick look through Minkara this morning when I stumbled upon this FC RX7 wearing a set of OEM concave BMW wheels. I'm not sure exactly what BMW model these came off (M5?), but I'm sure somebody out there knows.
Whatever they are, they look pretty awesome spaced out with the 5x114.3 adapters this car is most likely using.

I met up with a bunch of the local rotary crew here in Vancouver last week, had some beer and some wings and did a lot of bench racing, always fun to meet up with some Rotangs. The late night antics of a couple of the guys was pretty fun too. There may or may not have been an 'incident' with a Toyota Prius, I can't comment on it here though. Check out Jean-Marc's FC that pumps out 400+ RWHP, 13B half-bridge ported with a Garrett T67 turbo I believe, tuned via a microtech ECU, and...

Ever since I saw Rod's feature on the Dandy FC3S during the Bonneville Speed week I have been meaning to drop by their shop to check out not only the RX-7 but also meet the man behind it all, Dandy Tanaka. Kindly enough Tsuyoshi Narita, a customer and follower of Dandy kindly arranged my visit during a rather warm winter Saturday afternoon. It never fails to amaze me the location of some of the shops and garages I get to visit here in Japan. You can forget those massive industrial estates a lot...

This FC RX7 comes to us by way of reader Faezin of Singapore, who wanted to share his project car with us. To describe this RX7 as "full tuned" would be a bit of understatement.
Faezin has outfitted the car with a full R-Magic wide body conversion and JIC suspension, among many other things. Thrust comes from ported 13B with a TD06-20G Greddy turbo kit.
Boy I bet this thing looks/sounds awesome on the highway...

Let's start with part two of my coverage of the Streetpower event at Zandvoort. I couldn't resist starting with the Bonder E36 by DBM Engineering. It certainly is one of the most extreme BMW's I have seen in a while. It even managed to set the second fastest time of the day with 1:50.063. Here's another car built and maintained by the guys from Jeroentje.nl . This time a R33 GTS-T with a RB25 engine that has been rated around 325bhp. It seems like fluorescent colors were hot during...
