JANUARY: Jaguar XK-R, Dubai Autodrome 1/30th, F/3.5, 24mm, ISO3200 Canon EOS 5D MKII/Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L Sportscars are my personal passion, and 2011 proved to be another great year Speedhunting exotics on the road and tracks around Europe and the Middle East. From the warm sun and balmy desert nights of the Dubai 24 Hours in January to the windy classic coastal track of Zandvoort in Holland in October, putting together these Photos Of The Year stories is an enjoyable reminder of the great events...

I'm sure most of you are aware of our 'day in the life' series of stories where we follow an unsuspecting victim for a day and then relay back to you what it would be like to walk in this person's shoes for a day. For this particular story however, we're extremely fortunate for this person to talk us through their day in their own words. I'm rather quite excited by this for two reasons - we've never had the person of interest write this piece before and secondly, just...

Wrapping up our FIA GT coverage from Silverstone, I thought you guys might like a couple of desktops of the Sumo Power & JRM GT-R GT1s. As to be expected from both teams, they put on a strong showing at the fifth round of the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship. Although things may not have gone their way in many respects, they still held their heads high and kept fighting all weekend. Their focus and determination paid off on the Sunday evening with a win in the GT1 championship race, overcoming...

I'm sure a lot of you, like me have desk jobs, where the most physical activity you may experience in a day will be walking down to the water cooler for a refreshment. It's symptomatic of this exciting and dynamic "digital age" that our bodies seem to be increasingly relegated to the role of shuttling our brains around from A to B. So I'm rather enjoying all the rushing about that comes with the territory of weekend Speedhunting. Now my body is doing more than transporting my...

Hey folks! Are you all watching the Formula D Atlanta drift stream right now? Jonathan and I certainly are here in Portugal! We'll see how things go with Matt and Fredric in the Dirty South, but on this side of the Atlantic, the Team NFS crew have had an absolutely stellar day. Jonathan will be back soon with an in depth report from the day's proceedings. In the mean time, we've got a nice set of desktops for you to enjoy. I have to admit that we're just a little bit distracted by...

Yas Marina is the perfect temple of speed for the Middle East. Full of character, colour and personality, it combines modernity with flowing organic textures: the towering floodlights stand side by side with the desert palms, man-made branches laden with lights to counterpoint the gently swaying palm fronds. The grandstands that stretch out along the straights are topped with Arab-style tented peaks. The sleek European typefaces used around the track complement the flowing Arabic scripts: there's...

You hear them coming. You know it's them. It's the noise of thunder and lightning. The GT1 Nissan GT-Rs have a unique engine note that means you don't even have to look up to know one is coming. However, standing on the grid waiting for the 18 cars to slot into position it's always best to keep your eyes open. There's no place for bravado: last year at Silverstone I witnessed a driver knocked over by a car cruising into its start place – so when you're mostly looking...

It's year two of the FIA GT1 World Championship. In 2011 some things are the same, but some things very different from last season. Once again I was out in the Middle East for the opening round of the series at the ultra-modern Yas Marina circuit, and Nissan, Aston Martin, Ford, Lamborghini and Corvette were again represented. But in the run up to the new season there's been a shake-up of some of the teams and a lot of the drivers. The biggest shock was the disappearance of Maserati, multiple...

The #22 JRM Nissan GT-R driven by Richard Westbrook and Peter Dumbreck took a fine second place this evening in the opening round of the 2011 GT1 World Championship here in Abu Dhabi. Under the floodlights, Westbrook chased down the leading Aston Martin but just couldn't quite catch it by the time the chequer was waved. The JRM/Sumo Power GT team have risen to the challenge of running four GT-Rs in this year's series, and only bad luck meant they didn't match their great Qualifying Race...

I'm out in Abu Dhabi for the opening round of this year's GT1 World Championship, and already the temperatures are rising in every sense. It hit 40 degrees out on track yesterday, pushing the drivers to their limits – and making it very uncomfortable out snapping around the track. We're here again with Sumo Power GT: now augmented with an additional two Nissan GT-R GT1s run by the parent company JR Motorsports. Check out Andy Blackmore's GT1 preview for more details on the teams...

Kicking off the second half of 2010 with a trip to Spa was never going to be a particular chore. This mighty track, located in the depths of the Belgian Ardennes Forest, is a legendary venue, and one that brought back as many personal memories as it did racing ones. The iconic corners of the old track bring back visions of times gone past: the flat-out Masta Kink in particular summing up the dangerous nature of the old road circuit. Porsche 917s , Porsche 962s , Porsche GT1-98s … All of them...

What started in a volcano ended in a volcano: the ash from the Icelandic volcano in April to the Argentinian volcanic lake in December, it was quite a year. Oh, let's not forget the the sunstroke-fuelled proto Speedhunters volcano in Paul Ricard. In 2010 I covered two GT championships for Speedhunters, and 12 months, 14 countries, 39,954 miles, 38 races and 24,000 shots later, here I am at the beginning of another year in my love affair with sportscar racing. 12 months later, and still my text...

Portugal. September. There was a choice for the last of the season's visitors: warming sun and calm seas of the late summer or hordes of snarling GT cars throwing themselves around the rollercoaster that is the Autodromo Internacional do Portimao. For us, the choice was clear: the Speedhunters posse descended en masse on Portimao for the seventh round of the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship, which also featured the fifth round of the FIA GT3 European Championship. During the first day of on-track...

While following Team Need for Speed's European GT3 program we also had the opportunity to shoot FIA GT1 and to document SUMO Power's inaugural season. Along with Rod, I attended three races: Silverstone, Paul Ricard, and Algarve. The scene above is from Marsielle, France, a short drive from Paul Ricard. While the paddock at Silverstone was my first time seeing the SUMO car in person. The engine and exhaust note are unlike any other GTR I'd ever heard - since it's twin turbo V6 has...

I've just uploaded an avalanche of desktops to round off the GT1 season, images from the final round of this year's World GT1 Championship at the Potrero De Los Funes circuit in Argentina. There's an image of each team so you can pick your own favourite! It might be the last time we see certain liveries - or even teams… To celebrate the Vitaphone victory there's also a desktop of their silver-plated (well, coloured at least!) pit-box name stripe. There are also a couple of...

It's a week since the San Luis race at the incredible Potrero De Los Funes track in Argentina, the final race of the 2010 World GT1 Championship. After two full days of travelling home and, seemingly, five days of recovering from the travelling, I'm finding that I already miss the sound of screaming race engines. The hectic danger of the pits. The stresses of finding my way round new tracks. The lens cleaning. Living out of a suitcase. Even the track-side catering. A cold and damp London...

Beating them was always going to be a long-shot going into the last round here at San Luis in Argentina, but the #1 Vitaphone Maserati pair of Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels did enough to secure the 2010 Drivers' Title with the Championship Race still to go. They didn't make things easy for themselves though: after crossing the line in fourth at the rolling start of the Qualifying Race they collided with a Reiter Lamborghini on the second lap and dropped right to the back. All depended...

Tens of thousands of miles. Eight months. Three continents. 20 races. And now there can only be one pair of winning drivers. This weekend sees the final two races of the 2010 GT1 World Championship, which is taking place in the beautiful location of San Luis province in Argentina. It couldn't be more of a contrast with the previous race at Interlagos, whose perimeter walls were straining to hold back the urban intrusion of Sao Paulo. We may be in a town again – Potrero De Los Funes to be...

Following last weekend's GT1 World Championship round at Interlagos in Sao Paulo, I've now flown south to Argentina: another place I've always dreamed of visiting. The passport is getting full with new visa stamps, my eyes are getting even wider and my brain is being overloaded with all the amazing things I've seen this year. I quit Sao Paulo with the Sumo Power Nissan team early on the Monday morning after the race: whilst the 26 sea containers containing the GT1 grid trucked off...
