The glowing embers from Formula DRIFT Irwindale may have been completely extinguished by now, but that doesn't stop those that were there to reminisce about what was arguably, the best FD event of all time. For those that weren't in attendance, luckily, there's videographers like Zak Kerbelis to do their best to capture elements of the event that just can't be live streamed: the tense mood and the atmosphere.
Notice how the film starts off black and white then slowly introduces in color --a brilliant bit of editing.

As we start counting down the days leading up to the 2011 Formula Drift finals at Irwindale, we thought we'd take one last look at penultimate round in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the ASD/Falken Tire crew through the eyes of their very own video guy, Zak Kerbelis.

At a rain soaked Mid-Ohio, the Falken ALMS team claimed their first GT Class win of the season. Drivers Wolf Henzler and Bryan Sellers were as low as 12th position after being hit by the #4 Ford GT, but fought back to claim the top step on the podium.

As it sit in my hotel room, which is not too far from the Road Atlanta race track where the 13th running of the Petit Le Mans is about to happen, I thought I'd take time to look back at my time at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the six hour race, which can be considered as a warm up to the ten hour race at Road Atlanta. I had the opportunity to once again follow the Falken Tire team as they went about their weekend. The Falken Tire team has had a great season so far. They won two races with the...

In the American Le Mans calendar, there are three races that outshine a good portion of the other stops. The first is the 12 Hours of Sebring, then there's the last race of the season, the Petit Le Mans (which is a 10 hour race), then there's the six hour race in the hills of Monterey, California... ...at the historic Laguna Seca racetrack. It should also be noted that the track is no longer referred as Laguna Seca, but rather Mazda Raceway. The American Le Mans race at Mazda Raceway Laguna...

It's strange to think just how quickly the year has gone. As of today, there are only two more rounds left in the 2011 Formula D season and not one driver has a cinch on the championship. Like last year, it can really boil down to the last event at Irwindale Speedway.
The guys from ASD Motorsports have released a video of their campaign at Evergreen Speedway in Seattle. Manning the camera has been a new face to the Formula D media circuit, Zak Kerbelis. And from the looks of things, Zak has quite a bit of talent under his fingertips.

Almost nine months ago, I purchased a 1989 BMW 325i . And for the past few months, I've been tootling around Southern California with the car completely stock. Since my Miata, I've had the inkling to drive a fixed up car for a long, long time. But before I was going to throw on a bunch of aftermarket parts on the car... ...I wanted to see what I had to work with. I made a trip over to HPS Silicon Hoses , in the City of Industry, for a baseline run. The E30 was bolted to HPS' DynaPack...

This past Sunday, Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima blasted through the 12.42 miles, 156 turns, climbed 4,720 feet in elevation, had an everage speed of 75 MPH and crossed the finish line at 14,110 feet in a blistering time of 9 minutes 51 seconds. Thus, breaking the 10 minute barrier that stood since Pikes Peak Hill Climb's inception in 1916.
Now, thanks to the guys from GoPro, you can experience the 9 minute 51 second rollercoaster ride with Monster Tajima at the helm.

The conditions were right. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, the air wasn't too cold or too warm and the course was now a 90% ribbon of tarmac. The only variable were the heavy winds that blew up and down the mountain. Spectator's lawn chairs, easy-ups and hats constantly blew away throughout the day. But when Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima stepped up to the start line, the wind seemed to calm down a bit --as if the wind gave respect to a fellow monster. Monster Tajima piloted his...

When you think about all the different motorsport disciplines in the world, the thing that you associate with each of those disciplines is what surface they race on. For example, GT racing will always be associated with big road courses, NASCAR will always be associated with super speedways, drifting will always be remembered as being born in the mountains of Japan and Pikes Peak, which is entering its 89th running, will always be remembered for its gravel, dirt, and dust. As of 2011, Pikes Peak...

It's scary to think how quickly the sport of professional drifting has grown - especially in North America. There are very few drifting series where there are drivers whose sole livelihood consists of being a professional drifter. And since the sport has grown to such a level, the logistical side has to grow as well. Drift teams have grown from one man shows to a full army of support. Drifting, like many other professional racing series, solely focuses on the drivers and their cars. The supporting...

It's hard to believe that Formula D New Jersey is this weekend. It still feels like we just left Florida just yesterday and the guys from ASD keep that feeling going with this video of their campaign at Palm Beach International Raceway.

If you frequent the Speedhunters Facebook page then you would've seen us post a link to Falken's video from the American Le Mans Long Beach Grand Prix. Their Porsche 911 GT3 RSR suffered significant damage early in the weekend, and this video delves into some of the unique challenges of racing on an uncompromising street course.

As the heat and humidity subsided and the action at Palm Beach International Raceway came to an end, a winner had to be picked and Justin Pawlak is the one. Vaughn Gittin Jr. took second and Darren McNamara stood on third. An all Falken podium and the second all ASD podium. Congratulations to Justin and to all of Team Falken! -Linhbergh P.S. First practice session at Formula D Florida will go underway in just a few hours time. It's a clean slate for everyone that is involved; the drivers, the teams, the media, and, of course, the spectators. Just as we start ramping up our coverage this weekend, the guys at Falken Tire released their Long Beach film. They took a much more documentary approach and it is quite refreshing because of that.
Now if you'll excuse me, a bit of sleep is needed before my pre-dawn flight to Florida.

Earlier today the ASD/Falken Tire team released this neat video by Zak Kerbelis that documents the team's efforts at Formula DRIFT Road Atlanta. The team have had incredible success in FD, and have been on the podium at each event since October 2009.

These days, when you think of Formula D, its hard not to think or hear of Autosport Dynamics, or as they're more commonly known, ASD. They're the guys that were responsible for last year's championship winning Mustang and also three other top tier Falken drift cars. These guys run a tight ship and, as you can see from the photos, an extremely clean one as well. When Falken held their winter test session earlier this year, the Falken photographer, Jesse lee, took some time to snap a few...

Here's one last set of desktops from the American Le Mans race in the streets of Long Beach this past weekend. Speedhunter, Larry Chen, got this great shot of the Falken Porsche during race start at turn 9, the first turn in the Formula D drift course. Here's another shot of a Porsche RSR. This time of one of the many Falken Tire on-track rivals, Flying Lizard. Tommy Milner's #3 C6.R Corvette punching past turn 1. The area around turn 8 is one one my favorites of the Long Beach street...

The second round of the 2011 American Le Mans season has come to a close with the #56 BMW, driven by Joey Hand and Dirk Muller, taking the win in the GT class. It was a typical street fight: close bumper-to-bumper racing from start to finish. The #4 Corvette Racing C6.R driven by Jan Magnussen and Oliver Gavin finished 2nd in the GT class... ...and the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458GT driven by Jaime Melo and Toni Vilander took 3rd. Falken Tire Porsche finished the two hour race with their best...

You never really realize just how loud race cars are until they're bouncing off the revlimiter down a street course. The cacophonous sound of engine noises bounce and echo off the concrete walls and buildings creating an almost deafening noise. It's one of those must-do experiences for any gearhead. Today during qualifying, pole position went to the #56 Rahal Letterman Racing BMW which was driven by Joey Hand. The #53 BMW landed in P3.... P2 went to the #4 Corvette while the #3 Corvette,...
