Today Ferrari unveiled their new Formula 1 challenger online, with the live launch ceremony at Maranello cancelled due to heavy snow. The design of the Ferrari F2012 (codenamed 663) has certainly proven controversial, with the dramatic stepped nose being the main talking point. The Caterham and Force India 2012 cars both feature contoured 'humps' to get around the new regulations, while McLaren's MP4-27 features a more gradual nose transition. - Charles Kha

One of the highlights of the International Racing Car Show is always the Formula 1 Grid: a rare opportunity to examine up close an almost full-house of current F1 machines – and perhaps the only way without having some very well-connected friends and a whole neck-full of passes. Even dedicated racing magazines and sites only infrequently show close-ups of the detailing of the cars, so I found it very interesting to be able to see for myself the surprisingly large differences between the current...

Of all the component parts of a car, only one can evoke the kind of passion that can break friendships and cause people to break out the CAPS LOCK in internet arguments - wheels! Obviously a very important component, and also one of the key styling features of all cars. The wrong choice of size or style can make or break even the world's best cars. Remember the entry level 2004 E60 BMW? Amazing car, tiny wheels and it looked odd! With such a wide and varied selection of vehicles at Autosport...

With the excesses of Christmas and New Year now a distant memory, the Autosport International Racing Car Show signals the build-up to the 2012 motorsport season. For my first report from Autosport I'll be taking a look around the Pistonheads Performance Car show. Porsche Club GB was my first port of call, and I was immediately grabbed by this immaculate and ultra-rare 924 Carrera GT they had on display. With only 400 produced as homologation specials, the Carrera GT is one of the ultimate incarnations...

This weekend The International Racing Car show at the sprawling NEC complex in Birmingham becomes the focus of the racing and performance car world. It's where the manufacturers often choose to launch their new models: this year Nissan and JRM officially launched the GT-R NISMO GT3 at the show. The GT3 variant lacks none of the aggression of its now-redundant GT1 big brother – and the official launch was backed up by a JRM GT-R GT3 taking third position on the grid for today's Dubai...

The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu in England has a full-house of Formula One races from across the decades, chronicling the evolution of the Championship in physical form. Beginning with racers from the '50s and finishing with examples from the most recent era, some vital cars are included in the collection that would normally only be seen in the hands of private collectors or in the museums of the manufacturers themselves. It's what makes Beaulieu such a special place, like the equally...

I'm sure some of you will be familiar with this iconic image of the three Ford GT40s crossing the finish line at Le Man in 1966. This was Ford's third attempt to conquer La Sarthe having failed previously in '64 and '65. The story goes that Henry Ford was about to purchase Ferrari from Enzo himself when the deal fell through. Ford then sought revenge. Their aim was to beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race which Ferrari had won consecutively since 1960. It was looking promising for Ford in '66 with Ken Miles (car #1 above) having taken victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring already that year....

Recently Rod Chong tipped me off on a rather crazy drift car build that was going down in Sweden. This build story though. has a very unusal ending. We'll get to that in a moment, but first let's take a look at this wild machine....

The #50 AF Corse crew of Francesco Castellacci and Federico Leo held onto their Drivers' Championship lead at the end of the final FIA European GT3 race of the 2011 season, taking fourth position as the flag dropped at the end of 35 laps of the Zandvoort track – enough to clinch the championship for the Italian driver pairing. It hadn't been easy though: they started only sixth, soon dropped to seventh and were under pressure to make up places for the whole race. Frederick put in a...

When you are around the GT3 cars for a while you start to notice a lot of different approaches that teams have taken to build their car. I have seen our own BMW Z4 taken apart and rebuilt again several times. But the other cars on the grid are still some sort of a mystery to me. So I went to check them out in greater detail while they were waiting to go on track. One of the cars that I was most interested in was the SLS AMG. It is such an impressive car to see on and off track. Maybe even more impressive...

There's just one more race left in this year's FIA GT3 championship, and today's first race through the the sand dunes of Zandvoort hasn't made title outcome that much clearer. The amazing Dutch track is a great venue for the GT cars: it's fast and flowing, but the narrow twists, cambered corners and swooping elevation changes made it look far from easy to race on. But who wants to see cars cornering like their on rails? Opposite lock, smoking tyres under braking and desperate...

The shadows are lengthening for the FIA European GT3 Championship, as the series draws to a close for 2011 with a pair of races at the legendary Zandvoort track in the Netherlands. Last month at the Slovakiaring Mercedes-Benz became the latest marque to win (with victories in both races in fact) and joined Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche as race winners this year. It shows just how close the racing has been – as usual – in GT3. So the focus now changes to the matter of the...

Sometimes the greatest treasures are just around the corner. This was definitively the case when I visited ‘The Gallery' in my home town of Brummen. It is a classic car dealer that started in 1977 with only a few cars but has since grown into a large scale operation. The company is run by Nico Aaldering and his son Nick. The two live and breathe classic cars and have become famous in the world of classic car sales. From humble beginnings Nico has built himself an empire and was able to...

It's been over three years since a Speedhunter last set foot inside the world's largest collection of Grand Prix cars, so when passing Donington one morning in August, I couldn't resist dropping in for my own first visit. I've been to Donington a couple of times in the past for Prodrift and JDM Allstars events, but could never find the time to visit this rather humble looking museum. Donington Park has quite an illustrious history with Formula One and has featured some amazing battles...

One of the most popular displays to take in at the Goodwood Revival – and an easy way to lose many pleasurable hours – is free to see before you even get into the track's confines. This is the People's Concours, the demarcated area just inside the car parks where invited pre-'66 exotica and otherwise is put on display by their proud owners. When you add the road cars dotted around the site and the Goodwood Road Racing Club's enclosure, you begin to wonder how you'll...

As I'd arrived on site for the second day at the Goodwood Revival I'd been greeted by a blustery wind and light rain falling from the grey, cloud-laced sky. As I reluctantly put rain covers on the cameras and trudged away from my car, parked right at the far end of one of the car parks, I decided to head for a line of Morgans that I'd spotted as I was driving in. Leaning in close to get good look, I not only realised how nice the cars looked with the rain drops, but also the sheer diversity...

This year's Goodwood Revival was packed with celebrations of big-number anniversaries. 50 years of the Jaguar E-Type, 75 years of the Spitfire and 50 years since the late Phil Hill became the only driver to win both the Le Mans 24 Hours and the F1 World Championship in the same year – all saw tributes paid over the three-day event, but two centenaries also had their turn in the spotlight. Firstly, the Ford Motor Company of Great Britain put on an enormous display of vehicles spread...

Earls Court in London was famous in the 1950s and '60s as being home to the British International Motor Show, and once again the Goodwood Revival opened up the doors of its very own Art Deco homage to that iconic event. It's the one place on the site where cars past 1966 are actually allowed to be on show – but they have to be quite some car to deserve the honour… Earls Court has a family link to Goodwood: the site of the original building in West London was owned by the...

During the Targa Newfoundland Rally, the ZR Auto tuned Ferrari Enzo had an ugly excursion off track. Driver Zahir Rana hit a bump and lost control, plunging the million dollar ride into the water. Ouch.

The Slovakiaring's paddock was teeming with car-spotting opportunities over the weekend of the FIA GT3 races, with a packed supercar parking area adjacent to the pits plus the attractions at numerous displays around the track. And what a supercar display there was! Each GT round has been playing a game of who's-got-the-sauciest-cars – Silverstone's Lamborghini Aventador and Paul Ricard's Aston One-77 (and US muscle) for instance, but Slovakia provided that and more. The rarest...
