With the cancellation of the fourth round in Thailand, last weekend's FD Malaysia became the season finale for the 2011 Formula Drift Asia series. When it was announced that Manabu Orido would be competing in the Team RSR Supra, many were hoping for a dream final between him and Daigo Saito. Those wishes were heard, with the FD Malaysia decider indeed between Orido and Saito. Saito has proven invincible in the FD Asia series, winning every round that he's competed in. The Saito-Orido battle...

It's just been announced that Daigo Saito will be joining Robbie Nishida and the Bridges Racing Team for the 2012 Formula Drift Season. “We are elated that Daigo and Robbie are part of the Bridges Racing team for the 2012 season" said team owner Bryan Bridges. "We are excited to see what 2012 has to offer. After having the pleasure of working with Robbie during 2011 Formula Drift season, the addition of Daigo to our team is another invaluable asset. Our goals are set pretty high...

The glowing embers from Formula DRIFT Irwindale may have been completely extinguished by now, but that doesn't stop those that were there to reminisce about what was arguably, the best FD event of all time. For those that weren't in attendance, luckily, there's videographers like Zak Kerbelis to do their best to capture elements of the event that just can't be live streamed: the tense mood and the atmosphere.

Notice how the film starts off black and white then slowly introduces in color --a brilliant bit of editing.

When you think of a major professional drift event, the first things that come to mind are the drivers, the cars and their respective teams. In essence however, they are mere cogs in a much bigger machine. Behind the scenes, events like Formula D take months of planning, a fully dedicated staff and, of course, the famous last minute dash to the finish line. In the lead up to the final round at Irwindale, we decided to take a peek at how it all gets put together. This is what Irwindale Speedway looks...

This event marked a string of firsts for Formula DRIFT: it was their debut in Indonesia, their first live television broadcast, and for two newcomers to FD, it was their first time on the podium. Drifting continues to grow across the world, and the sport is proving extremely popular throughout Asia. The clouds held back the rain, meaning the inaugural Achilles Radial Formula DRIFT Indonesia was held under the blazing Indonesian sun. The event was held at the Jakarta International Expo, where Indonesian...

My job is to follow these hardened souls known as race car drivers. They have to be emotionless. It is all too easy to make a mistake driving on the edge. And when they win, emotions pour out freely. That is when I come in to capture that faint moment in time. I treated the Formula Drift finals at Irwindale like the I was shooting the Olympic games or an inauguration of a new world leader. I wanted to be the first to bring that style of photo journalism to the sport of drifting. It may not be important...

The Sunday following the rather electric night at Irwindale Speedway, Formula DRIFT held its annual end of year banquet. It was an evening filled with flowing drinks, good laughs, a three course meal... ...and it also gave Formula D co-founders, Ryan Sage and Jim Liaw, the chance to say their thanks to everyone that participated in the 2011 season. At the banquet, Formula D judge and technical adviser, Tony Angelo, announced that he would be stepping down from his position and would once again be...

There's one thing about Formula D that stands out from the rest, it's the fact that the people associated with the sport genuinely love drifting --from the drivers to the mechanics to the people shooting the video and photography. We spend an unnatural amount of hours traveling, being at the track, working on cars and, to members of the media like myself, editing afterwards. The mechanics and team managers stay at the track through the night with repairs and running errands to prepare for...

A whole lot goes on during a Formula Drift weekend. There's the initial load in of all the different teams' rigs on Thursday, the countless workers that help set up the track, the drifting, and of course, the throngs among throngs of spectators. It's hard to imagine all that happens, but Larry Chen does quite the number and compresses a whole weekend at Irwindale Speedway, all its happenings, in two minutes and thirty seconds.

If there was one thing that the last round of the 2011 Formula Drift season proved, it was the fact that no matter what engines were in these drift cars, or what car housed said engines, people will come in record numbers to spectate as long as the on-track action was bumper-to-bumper. And as the nail-biting hunt for the championship unfolded at Irwindale Speedway, Formula D more than proved its might, it solidified itself as a drifting powerhouse of a series. With that, here are a few selections...

This past Saturday at Irwindale Speedway can, arguably, be considered the best "Formula D event ever" by those that were in attendance or by those that were watching on the live stream. For those of you that have missed it, Justin Shreeve and Joe Ayala, put together this quick, yet tantalizing, look at the spectacle that was Irwindale.

Turn up the volume and enjoy, folks. This is professional drifting pumped up to 11.

If the night's Top 16 proceedings at Irwindale Speedway are reminiscent of any moment, it would be that edge-of-your-seat last race, last lap, last corner of the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix. But imagine the dying moments of that race extended into one nail biting hour. At one point, it looked like Justin Pawlak was going to take the title, the next it was Daijiro Yoshihara. Then it broke off into a four-way battle between those two, Darren McNamara and Chris Forsberg. The chase for the crown...

If there's one thing to be said about the top 32 battles of the last round of the 2011 Formula D season, it's the fact that House of Drift's new course layout proved to be a rather upsetting one for a few of the drivers. Both Team Need for Speed drivers have been knocked out of the Top 32 as well as 2010's driver's champion, Vaughn Gittin Jr. Championship contenders, Justin Pawlak and Daijiro Yoshihara, have both moved on to the top 16 and the chase for the crown could even be...

Irwindale Speedway has always been the destination for professional drifting in North America. This "House of Drift" has been the birthplace of American drifting as a mainstream sport ever since the D1GP events in the early part of the turn of the millenium. It has also been the birth place for many drifter's professional careers. Vaughn Gittin Jr. is one of those, as well as Team Need for Speed driver, Matt Powers. This year is Formula D's 8th year coming to Irwindale and is the...

It's hard to believe that the 2011 Formula D season is coming to a close. Next weekend will be the 8th time Formula D has finished a season at Irwindale Speedway, the "House of Drift." To freshen things up and make the show more exciting this year, the organizers decided to change the competition course. This new course is longer, faster and will be much more entertaining to the fans while bringing new challenges to the drivers and teams. Will this new course change up with pecking...

A good number of automotive related videos are watched on a daily basis at the Speedhunters offices. And lately, the influx of drifting related videos has sky rocketed. But when this film, from YAER Productions came across our desk, following Formula Drift driver, Ryan Tuerck, we were rather taken aback by its fresh take on a scene that has seen its fair share of videos. The film chronicles the moment when Ryan is waking in his hotel room, to the daily humdrum of the morning and finally, to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for a good bit of tire slaying.

Ryan is currently 6th in the driver's championship with one more round to go.

Things already felt a bit strange at Las Vegas Motorspeedway when the qualifying results were posted. The top qualifiers weren't the usual suspects as there was a slight change in the guard. Many people were guessing that the old guard would take back their old stomping grounds in the top 32 and beyond, but no one would've guessed that the new kids on the block would put up such a good fight. So with that, let's take a look at the Top 32. The first battle of the Top 32 was with the number...
