Here is one nice ride I spotted last month when covering the D1-GP final in Fuji Speedway. This extremely low BNR32 belongs to Ryusuke Kawasaki, the editor of Drift Tengoku (Drift Heaven) Magazine, the only publication you will ever need to read if you are into sliding around in cars! Doriten (the nick name of the mag) first came out back in 1996. It was bundled along with an issue of Option, and it kind of stayed like that until 1999 when it was finally launched as a proper separate publication...

The GT-R is linked in every way possible with the famous Nürburgring, so for a lot of owners of this car it is a once in a lifetime experience to be able to drive this circuit. Not for the guys I saw today because they are regulars and meet up with other GT-R owners to share their experiences. It's all part of the package when owning this car, it's not just the car it's a community you live in now....

Was browsing around YouTube for cool BMW videos when I found this clip from 1990 All Japan Touring Car race at Tsukuba Circuit. Check the E30 M3's, the iconic Group A GT-R's, Ford Sierras and even EF Honda Civics.
The scenery at Tsukuba sure has changed in the nearly 20 years since this was recorded.

Sticking the "GT-R" badge on a car that is not an authentic GT-R will earn you nothing but disrespect. It's just something you don't do, unless your name happens to be Nagata-san! Back in 2005, tired of waiting for Nissan to come up with a replacement for the discontinued R34 GT-R, Smoky from Top Secret took things into his own hands and decided to build his own new-generation GT-R. Between 2002 and 2007 Japanese magazines like Best Car and Holiday Auto were coming up with futuristic...

Mark Berry and Russell Newman are the two-man team that has dominated Australia’s time attack scene. You’ve already seen glimpses of their insane Hi-Octane Racing R34 GT-R weapon in previous posts, and courtesy of Auto Salon Magazine here is a closer look at what it’s packing. Previously campaigning an R32 GT-R, Mark Berry and Russell Newman have conquered numerous racing events all over Australia. The R34 GT-R started off as a standard road going version which Mark Berry purchased...

Having posted a few R35 GT-R features so far I thought it would be interesting to see how the most affordable supercar on the planet is actually put together. It's not often that manufacturers let you wander around their production lines, but Nissan has nothing to hide and gave us an in depth tour of how a car of this caliber comes together. It all begins at the Yokohama plant, where the mighty VR38DETT is put together. The GT-R's engine couldn't have been assembled in a better place...

I can't wait for the time attack season to get going here in Japan, starting with the Tsukuba Super Lap Battle in early December. For me there is no better event on the calendar, and this year, like back in 2007, the guys from High Octane Racing in Australia will be there with their new Advan-sponsored R34 GT-R. This video shows its first ever track outing at Oran Park. The custom-dry sumped RB30 drivers all four wheels via the 6-speed Holinger transmission. Apparently, the AWD system wasn't working well on the day so it was a bit of a handful, precisely what makes this video so cool to watch.

The only thing better than Japanese tuner cars are the names of Japanese tuner shops. Here's the 670hp Wacky Mate BNR32 GT-R from Aichi Prefecture screaming down the front straight at Fuji Speedway during the HKS Premium event earlier this year. Suzuka Circuit is this car's home course, but it looked right at home flying around Fuji's high speed corners among its high horsepower GT-R rivals.

Spotted at the latest Spocom show in the Long Beach Convention center. I know I have each of these three cars on my wish list, but which one would you prefer above the other? My choice would be the GT-R, it has unrivaled power, can be used on a daily basis and it has a lot of presence especially in Europe. -Jeroen Willemsen

I was browsing through my archive and I stumbled upon this picture. It was shot by a good friend of mine that owns the black widebody R34 GT-R. Both the cars are outside Sunline's garage, just sitting there. The R34 features a complete carbon widebody and has been setup for Time Attack and that is what he has been doing with the car after it was finished. Maybe Dino can share some more pictures of the car because I know he has photographed it more than once. -Jeroen Willemsen Sunline Racing

Would you be willing to part with your car and send it to a shop on the other side of the world? The story gets even better, because the owner of this R34 had never even met the car builder, he only knew him by reputation.... but after some phone conversations, a deal was struck and this R34 was to be shipped across the planet for some very special modifications. The British owner imported the car back in 2003 from Japan and had it shipped to the UK. After some exterior modifications, he wanted to...

The night after the RX-7 annual meeting last week I found myself returning to Daikoku PA for yet another gathering. This time it was something closer to heart as I met up with a few friends of mine, most of them GT-R owners, as well as others with cool and interesting cars. For years now a bunch of us "foreigners" have been religiously meeting up on the second Wednesday of every month, setting up our meetings via the UK GT-R Register forum at GTR.co.uk. Unfortunately being the summer holidays...

Seems Nissan is on an unrelenting mission to make the R35 GT-R the fastest supercar in the world. Check out this video of their latest record lap done back in April at the Nurbugring. The driver is Toshio Suzuki and the laptime of 7:26.7 is simply outstanding. I wonder what Porsche will have to say about this one!

Following on from my post on the Mine's R35, I thought it would be worth going back in history a little and featuring a slightly older GT-R. The BNR32 is what put Nissan on the supercar map back in 1989, and pretty much fueled the tuning boom in Japan during the 90's. Garage Saurus have been around since the beginning, building some of the most extreme cars the streets of Japan have ever seen. Garage Saurus has proven to be one of the strongest contenders in the drag scene, but at the same...

When Nissan first introduced the original Hakosuka Skyline GT-R in the late '60s , the only body style available was a four-door sedan. Shortly after, the GT-R would be moved the two-door Skyline platform and it would be quite some time (40 years to be exact) until a Skyline GT-R sedan would appear again. In 1998 Autech released a limited production four-door R33 Skyline GT-R, which paid homage to the original Hakosuka sedan. The Autech car featured all of the high tech GT-R items including the ATTESA E-TS AWD system (man, that's a lot of letters) , the RB26 engine, and widened GT-R style body work. Today they are very rare to see, so I was surprised to find this all-original example in Tokyo earlier this year.
Until we see the oft-rumored R35 sedan, GT-R nuts with families to haul will have to stick with this...

In stock form the R35 already has that look that will turn heads. But when you add little touches here and there the car can get a whole new look. As always it starts with the wheels, these BBS ones are my favorite choice on the R35 GT-R. I also noticed some carbon in the shape of the new rear spoiler and the front splitter. -Jeroen Willemsen

There is a corner of Santa Pod that is forever Japan. It just seemed right to see the hordes of Japanese car clubs packing out the hard stand that runs alongside the drag strip: from the biggest, meanest supra-cars to more modest town hatchbacks via the cleanest classics this side of Tokyo. From the moment I arrived on-site it was clear just how popular the event is: the parking field was packed and the camping areas full of tents. The quarter mile provided the focus for the weekend - particularly...

Last weekend the 2009 FIA GT Championship had its first round, on the Silverstone Grand Prix track. It was also the debut race for the Nissan GT-R, R35 model. On SpeedHunters we have written about this project which is in preparation for the 2010 FIA World GT1 Championship. The car has created considerable interest so we thought it appropriate to bring the loyal SpeedHunters' readers a gallery to see how the car looked in action. The first thing to keep in mind is that the car is running to 2010...

"Build it and they will come" Or so Stephane Ratel hopes. The head honcho of the FIA GT Championship revealed his vision for 2010 and the following years last week. Central to his plans for a Wold Championship was the creation of a new class of cars to take on the GT1 mantle. This is a bold move in these times of financial constraints and budget cuts but fortune favours the brave, or so we are told. Of course Stephane can draw some comfort from the fact that as he spoke to the room two...

In keeping with the "cool cars in cool garages" theme we have going this month with all the build stories on the site, I wanted to add this shot of the HKS 180SX drag car. When we arrived at the garge where the CT230R and some of the other HKS cars we boring stored, I was delighted to see this RB26-powered monster sitting there in one of the service bays undergoing some work.
With all the focus on the drift cand time attack cars that HKS has built, you can sometimes forget about the incredible HKS drag cars. The HKS 180's 1,200hp and seven second quarter mile times are just as impressive today as they were when the car was first built.
