On Saturday some of the best amateur drifters in North America gathered at Irwindale Speedway for the Formula Drift Pro Am Nationals. With prize money, free parts, and the chance for an FD Pro license on the line, the competition would be fierce, yet the atmosphere was still that of care-free grassroots event. In total there were 24 drivers who had advanced through the ranks of regional feeder series, or at the FD Pro Am events held across the country in 2009. Although the stands were far from full, there were still plenty of spectators and supporters that came to enjoy the action on a beautiful fall afternoon in SoCal....

Everything's bigger in Texas, even the tandem drift trains. This was shot at the first-ever Lonestar Bash, held last weekend at Mineral Wells in the heart of Texas.
Very good stuff here.

We've covered the hidden gem that is the Caribbean motorsports scene a couple times here on Speedhunters, and each time we're even more impressed with the crazy machines people are running down there. This latest batch of photos was shot by Jason Joaquin at the second round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship held on August 30th at Bushy Park in Barbados....

I don't know about you but I'm the kind of guy that gets way too attached to things, especially cars. This is probably why I had a hard time seeing cool JDM drift cars get voluntarily smashed up at Ebisu this past weekend. Sure they are on their last leg, but the optimist in me always sees the potential in a car, after all everything can be fixed up right? But what would a Drift Matsuri be without missiles, cars like the mangled up RPS13 in the picture above, being smashed against the pit...

Ebisu circuit truly is a magical place. You could see it this past weekend at the Matsuri where the drifters were like kids in a candy store. Most wanted to sample all that the compound has to offer from the scary wall at the Minami course, to the blind crest at the Nishi short-course and the fast and more grip oriented Higashi. I was driving back and forth between circuits trying to get a glimpse of as much action as possible, not to mention checking out all the cars lined up in the pits and paddocks...

It was back up to Ebisu circuit this past weekend for me, to cover the summer installment of the legendary Drift Matsuri, but little did I know the 48-hours of non-stop drifting would be joined by 48-hours of non-stop rain! Everyone there got soaked down to their underwear and socks but even the damp conditions didn't stop people from having fun. It was a superb event as ever, just a little less smoke than I was expecting! With the summer holiday season and Obon festival getting into full swing...

July has been a busy month for me -I've put about 2500 miles on my car in the past few weeks just driving to events and photoshoots. Tomorrow morning I'm going to be heading back down to Southern California for the rally portion of the X-Games - something that I'm quite looking forward to covering. Before that though, I wanted to wrap up my All Star Bash coverage with a final batch of photos from that magical event in the desert last weekend....

What's better than taking a road trip half way across the country with a group of close friends? How about a road trip that involves lots of drifting and cruising through the streets of San Francisco and SoCal in stylish drift cars? That's exactly what Chicago's Risky Devil crew did over the past week.
For a couple years now, these guys have been putting Chi-Town on the map with their awesome cars and crazy driving. Their website has become one of most popular places in the always-growing "JDM car blog world", and we've spotlighted their cars many times here on Speedhunters. Needless to say, I was pretty excited to finally meet these internet heroes at the Ziptied All Star Bash last weekend....

Now for some more photos from the "biggest little drift event in the world" AKA the Ziptied All Star Bash.
We've covered this event several times now on Speedhunters, and by now it should be obvious that this is where one can experience the best grassroots drifting in the United States. ...

There's an air of difference when you compare the Matt Powers of Formula D and regular ol' Matt Powers. The seriousness and pressure of competing with the big leagues in Formula D is completely gone and replaced with a person that just wants to get out on the track with a smile, and leave with a smile. As an automotive website, we mostly focus on the actual cars, but rarely peek into the heart and soul of said cars. Here's a shot from within the cockpit of Matt Powers' fantastically...

Welcome to the Ziptied All Star Bash. Outside of Japan and its drift festivals. there's never been an event that draws so many people from so far to spend 48 hours hanging out, fooling around, and burning tires to shreds. All Star Bash is like a movie that doesn't have any sort of plot, but keeps you entertained with scene after scene of random awesomeness and plenty of humor.
It's been nearly two years since I've been to an ASB event, so I was jumping at the bit to get down to Willow Springs for the Summer '09 edition of this storied gathering. ...

Hey everyone, my name is Dan Jenkins. This is my first time blogging about anything, so hopefully I will keep you guys entertained with my words and images. Before I get into the madness that is Hyperfest, here’s some info on me: I’m an East Coaster- I live in York PA, the first capitol of the U.S.! I got interested in photography years ago in high school. I still own the first camera I learned on- the Canon AE-1 Program. I was mostly just shooting pictures for class assignments and not...

When I was living in Japan, one of the things I liked to do was post photographs of random cars I'd see while out and about. I've always thought it was cool to see what kind of cars you find "out in the wild", especially in place like Japan. Since I've been back here, I've done my best to take the camera along with me when I go out to see what sort of stuff I could find along the way....

One of the things I love about Japan is the fact there are just as many events held during the week as there on weekends. When I arrived here last week, one of the first things I did was pick up the latest issue of Drift Tengoku magazine to see what sort of drift soukoukai would be happening during on my trip. One of the events I found was the YMS Cup, which was held yesterday at Nikko Circuit. Since there wasn't much else to do on this boring old Wednesday, we decided to take the short drive up to Nikko to have a look....

It's been a good couple of weeks for the East Coast drift scene. You've seen the coverage of FD New Jersey, but a week before that was the second East Coast Bash at Englishtown - seen here in a nicely done film by Mike Spock.

I'm sure you remember the wild Mazda RX3 race car that Rod posted a few weeks ago. It's certainly one of the craziest RX3's in the planet, and we thought you might want to see some more photos it in action along with some other race cars at the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship event held in Jamaica last weekend. I have to admit that I wasn't too familiar of the motorsport scene in the Caribbean until a reader named Jason Joaquin mailed us with some insight on what's going down there....

Since it's drifting month, I've been spending a lot of time hunting through the photos on my hard drive looking for interesting drift material to post. Scrolling through the thousands of pictures I have, I noticed the incredible variety between the colors of each car. Since it's such a visual motorsport, the color of the cars plays an important role in the overall impact of drifting. In fact, I'd say that the paint designs on drift cars are much closer to hot rods than they are to race cars in terms of creativity.
This got me thinking, why not do a post showcasing drift cars of the same color? In this case I chose the color green because there seems to be a high number of cool looking drift cars coated in various shades of green. I will consider this green post my late earth day contribution.
Or maybe I'll just consider it an excuse to post more cool drifting photos......

Ah yes, as you've seen throughout the month here on Speedhunters, we are pretty excited for the new season of motorsport around the world. In keeping with that theme, we just came across these shots taken at a preseason drift practice day at England's Santa Pod Raceway thanks to James, who was there shooting trackside. From the pics, it looks like there was a nice variety of cars out there, including a few pros from the European drift scene....

OK let's continue where we left off yesterday with some more weekend car sightings from the mean streets of the Odaiba.
The idea of saying goodbye to Japan is leaving me with mixed emotions. On one hand I'm really going to miss being surrounded by the "exoticness" of Japanese car life, while another part of me is looking forward to the freedom of being back in the USA where I can enjoy luxuries like owning a project car. Not having to pay over $50 in tolls to take a 90-mile highway trip is going to be nice as well... ...
