What a busy weekend we have ahead. Before I get back to packing up my gear for tomorrow's NFS SoCal event, I thought I'd post this high res desktop shot of George's FC3S RX7 at XDC Rd.1. There's just something I like about this shot through fence. Head over to the Desktops section now to pick it up in widescreen and standard format. -Mike Garrett...

Let's have one more look at XDC round one Irwindale, shall we? As you can see in this opening shot, Nate Hamilton's V8-powered Sil80 was producing some serious smoke and angle around the final turn of the course. All of us photographers were hoping that drivers would hold their drifts as long as possible, as this section was probably the most photogenic on the entire track....

On Saturday the XDC kicked off its second year of competition with the season-opening event at Irwindale Speedway. This would be my first time shooting drift in 2011, and I had been itching to get out and shoot some sideways action for months. No better place to do that than at the House of Drift....

As we feature meets this month, I'm making an attempt to get to as many local LA area gatherings as I can. Last Saturday I hit up Cars & Coffee and yesterday night I headed to Irwindale Speedway for another one of SoCal's great weekly gatherings - the Thursday Night Drags....

...or should it be Chevy Nova vs. Chevy Nova with the gasser on the right lane and the altered wheel base on the left. If I had had to pick one, it'd be the Nova on the left. It's shortened wheelbase and aggressive stance looks amazing. Luckily, I didn't bet any money on this race as the AFX had some troubles launching. Mike Garrett will have a break down of the Mooneyes Xmas Party soon. So, head on over to the desktops section to grab this bit of winter holiday themed tire burning. ...

Ok let's get back to my LA Speedhunting adventures from a couple of weeks ago. As previously mentioned, I was in possession of a German Hot Rod for the week: a 500bhp V10 Powered, BMW M5. You know, this car had an odd effect on me. I kept wanting to talk about it and weave it into conversations. ...

For my second drag racing post of the day, I wanted to throw up one last bunch of photos from the Thursday night drags at Irwindale Speedway. Above, we have a Mustang fastback and a yellow Ford Coupe racing towards an In and Out Burger sign. The picture perfect California scene....

Every Thusday night, Toyota Speedway at Irwindale opens up its 1/8 mile drag strip for a test and tune session. Since we were already at the track for Formula D, it was the perfect chance to drop by and take a look at this weekly ritual. While the larger events might draw the big names and the big crowds, these local gatherings are one of the best places to see modern drag racing culture....

Three Images from three continents... The first from the UK, shot by Paddy McGrath. The second photograph was snapped by Casey Dhnaram at the Jamboree event in Australia. And finally we have a photograph from shooter extraordinaire David Lister. He captured this image at the California Hot Rod Reunion two years ago at Famosa Raceway in Bakersfield, California USA. These three very similar images depict a one of the most important racing scenes in the world. A competition style which, like drifting...

If you go back about six months ago, you might recall our coverage of the 2009 Mooneyes XMas Party at Irwindale Speedway. At the time Southern California was hit by a huge rainstorm, which soaked the show. Definitely not the best thing for slammed customs, rat rods, and drag racers. Tons of hardcore folks still came out in the rain, and the good people at Mooneyes USA decided to repay them by hosting a make up "Christmas in July" event yesterday. There's no way it could rain in July right?...

I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but here in SoCal it seems that summer has already come - in March. As soon as we changed the clocks over to daylight savings time a couple weeks ago, temps have climbed into the 80s and pretty much stayed there. And so, from sunny Southern California, here's the final part of my coverage from the XDC season opener....

Let's continue with another batch of photos from the XDC season opener at Irwindale, shall we? Based on the vibes from the various blogs and forums out there, it seems like the first-ever XDC event was a success, and it's always great to see new opportunities for up and coming drivers to perform on the national stage....

This past weekend the inaugural Xtreme Drift Championship season kicked off, and what better place to start than at Irwindale Speedway, the House of Drift. After hearing about this new series over the past months, I was excited to see how the first event of the new series would go down, and was itiching to shoot my first drift meet of the year......

My shoes might still be drying out from the rainstorm over the weekend, but the weather in SoCal at the moment is incredible. You know, one of those picture perfect days where the snow-capped San Gabriel mountains can be seen from all over the LA basin. If only it had been this nice at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday. Oh well, even with the rain, we still have plenty left to show you guys from the 2009 Mooneyes X-Mas Party....

I just got home a few minutes ago from a day of Speedhunting with Rod at the Walden Speed Shop in Pomona - concluding what's been an eventful a few days of California hot rod and custom culture. It all kicked off on Saturday with the Mooneyes X-Mas Party at Irwindale Speedway, and even though the rain kept some people away, there was still plenty to see in the flooded parking lots of the speedway....

I know a lot of our American readers are probably staring at the clock right now, counting down the minutes until the start of the holiday weekend. To help pass the time a little faster, here's my final bit of coverage from the Formula Drift Pro Am Nationals at Irwindale. Up above you can see Texan Stewart Leask preparing for a run in his LS1-powered S13. Ahhh...There's just something about a Japanese-styled S13 mixed with the rumble of an American V8....

Now to continue where I left off yesterday with some more coverage from the Formula Drift Pro Am Nationals, held over the weekend at Irwindale Speedway. In the opening shot we see Washington's Nikolay Konstantinov and midwest driver Derek King performing one of the day's closest tandem runs during morning practice. Typically the cars in pro-am tandem aren't as close together as the pros, but we saw some very close runs on Saturday....
