The tuner and Japanese car market is a huge part of SEMA, and there's always countless fixed up examples to be found in the show.
Here are some of the interesting Japanese-branded vehicles we've found so far....

Every time you walk into a garage or a warehouse hunting for speed you can find something special you didn't expect. This was the case when I walked into Rising Sun Performance at the end of January. Amongst all the other cars I found this blue EG that had been built by Impact! in Japan and imported to Europe. The owner must be a real enthusiast because you could build something like this right here in Holland. The car had been dropped off at Rising Sun Performance for some minor changes and...

Welcome to part two of my coverage of last weekend's New Year Meeting. Some cars just never go out of fashion, like each one of the three above....

Coming over from the parking lot (previous post) I already knew this year's event was something huge. While I don't remember how many cars there were last year, I'd guess there were twice as many this time. Honda was the celebrated marque, but the number of Nissans and Toyotas far outnumbered that brand....

When I headed to this year's New Year Meeting in Odaiba, I promised myself one thing; to spend some time in the visitors' parking lot first. I'd always known it to be a bit of a treasure trove (looking down greedily every year as I exited the train), and when I finally devoted some time to look around, I found it filled with interesting stuff. This place is a show in itself! Above, design perfection. One of the world's perfect cars - there are only a few......

In this day and age, we're able to see everything around the world from the comfort of our internet devices. I'm sure you've seen every possibile combination for Civics, S-chassis, VWs, and BMWs if you're an avid car enthusiast who frequents the automotive 'nets. But something that can never get old is a bunch of beautifully restored classic Japanese cars. Video guy, Josh Clason, visited the guys from JDM Legends, in Utah, and created this short video of those classic creations that we all love.
Thank you Matt McDowell for the tip!

In just a day or so I'll be heading out to Las Vegas to meet up with Rod and Linhbergh for Formula Drift round five.
While the scorching hot blacktop of Vegas awaits, I'm going to finish up my coverage from Saturday's Nisei Showoff here in LA with one more batch of photos....

Now back to more of California's finest as I continue my coverage of Saturday's Nisei Showoff from Little Tokyo in Downtown LA.
All styles of cars could be found at Nisei but as the opening shot shows, it's still the Honda that is on top here....

As sure as overcast mornings, brown hillsides, and wildfires, the Nisei Showoff in downtown LA is Southern California summer time tradition.
After last year's show, rumors were flying that the Nisei Showoff would be no more as redevelopment closed in on the event site.
As the title of this post states, there was in fact a Nisei Showoff this year - and boy it was a good one....

I have no idea who made this, but it's an impressive mash-up of vintage Japanese wheels (many of which I can't even identify).
How cool would it be to have something like this in wall size for your garage, house, or apartment?
Spotted in the always poppin' "Dope Sh*tzzz!" thread on Clubroadster.net.

Those of you who've been with Speedhunters since the beginning of the site may remember the coverage we did from the Vancouver edition of the Driven to Perform car show. There was one car at DTP which created a lot of interest: the Alex Yao built Nissan 420Z TT. People wanted to see more and I'm happy to say we've finally found some time to do a feature on this car. This article was written by Derrick Aynaga, a rather car crazy video game producer on the Need for Speed team... He's...

I'm concentrating on "D to D: Drift & Driving Entertainment Magazine" in this post. I've found that there is a great deal of technical depth in D to D. What would likely be a paragraph blurb on a new intercooler from Greddy/Trust becomes a 2 page spread with temperature graphs by RPM, etc. The very first thing I noticed about these JDM mags is that even though we in North America think we run a lot of advertising in our print media... We got NOTHIN on japan. With a car culture...

I was asked recently to pour over some JDM magazines and get a feel for them. I have to say, I love seeing the high level of tune on the JDM rides in the magazines. They have such a diverse scene over there. Truth be told, the majority of the drift scene appears to revolve around Nissan Silvia's and 1 & 2-JZ powered Toyotas, but there is also a fair bit of coverage to be had on the other players in the scene as well. Drift Tengoku as a magazine drops right into the mix as a more feature focused...

Look at what I came across while surfing the intertubes! This has got to be one of the most stylish daily driven track weapons I've ever seen. The folks over at www.tripleZoom.com have a full feature on the car and the driver, and I must say, it's a great read. The owner, Chris Lee, has some of the rarest Miata parts on this continent. Not the least of which are those massive flares. Am I alone in loving "Dampa Chi" the little Tein mascot??? Of course, he needs those flares to fit...

The Driven to perform car show touched down in Vancouver last weekend, and brought with it a barrage of cars that remind me that car culture is alive and well. I was there to see the local scene as it came out of hibernation.
As for the "Who the hell are you?" bit, here goes: Based out of Vancouver, and being an artist on the Need For Speed games, I'm a bit of a car nut, and a "Honda guy". You know. One of those. Anyways, on with the show. ...

I was at Tsukuba Circuit last week when I "came upon" the famous Mine's R34 Skyline GT-R undergoing some sort of tire testing for Bridgestone. While everyone may be talking about the R35, I was reminded just how impressive the R34 is while watching this car rip around the track. Lap times were in the 59 second range. Here are few photos I managed to snap of this beast-

For British fans of Japanese vehicles, there are few events bigger than the appropriately titled, "Japfest". Over 2000 Japanese cars of all types gathered at Castle Combe Circuit for a full day of action both on the track and off. All parts of the scene were represented with events including a car show, track day, drift demos from our friends at Driftworks, and much more. Just looking at the schedule of events,I felt like I was missing out. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who LIVES...

Our mission with Speedhunters is to show all types of automotive lifestyle around the world, and while we love the professional motorsports scene as much as anyone, we also want show things from a more grassroots level. I love to watch the "big guys" ,but sometimes It can be just as interesting to see what the "little guys" are up to. Today, I headed out to Tsukuba Circuit for the purpose of documenting a typical Japanese circuit day, and more specifically, the type of cars seen...
