JRM, the mother ship of Sumo Power, have just released the shock news that they'll be launching an assault on the 2012 World Endurance Championship, following on from victory for their Nissan GT-R in the 2011 GT1 World Championship. Their weapon of choice in 2012 will be the HPD ARX-03A LMP1 prototype – dropping them straight into a fight against the factory might of Audi, Peugeot and Toyota. The WEC is the first world championship for prototypes for over 15 years – it will be fought...

Remember the spy photos we ran of appeared to be a GT3-spec R35 GT-R? Well that car, the Nssan GT-R GT3 jointly developed between NISMO and JR Motorsports, has just completed a 440km race distance over three hours. The JRM team used the fourth round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Magny-Cours in France to rack up mileage on the race car, where it finished 8th overall. So far, the NISMO GT-R GT3 has covered 1700km without any issues, making this a very successful debut. - Charles Kha Photos supplied...

A Speedhunters reader, who wishes to stay anonymous, has just sent in these spy photos of what appears to be the FIA GT3 spec R35 GT-R. These photos were taken at a private test that was conducted at the Aragon Circuit in Spain. According to our reader, the GT3 specification GT-R - which is being jointly developed by NISMO and JRM - was testing alongside the GT1 cars and appeared to be very close in speed. Our reader confirmed that the the GT3 version had a markedly different engine note to the GT1...

Wrapping up our FIA GT coverage from Silverstone, I thought you guys might like a couple of desktops of the Sumo Power & JRM GT-R GT1s. As to be expected from both teams, they put on a strong showing at the fifth round of the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship. Although things may not have gone their way in many respects, they still held their heads high and kept fighting all weekend. Their focus and determination paid off on the Sunday evening with a win in the GT1 championship race, overcoming...

It’s been a couple of days since the chequered flag dropped on what was a truly incredible weekend of racing and I’m still trying to recover from it. I know Rod touched on how he has become so used to seeing these incredible grids of racing cars that he needs to try and reset his mind to appreciate and enjoy them again and not to take them for granted. I understand exactly where he is coming from. It’s so easy in this line of work to become indifferent to the incredible surroundings...

Yesterday's Silverstone GT1 race served witness to one of the strangest racing accidents in the history of GT Racing. It seems like Aston Martin driver Stefan Mücke, saw a deep form of the colour red after being spun out by JRM driver Richard Westbrook and decided to take justice into his own hands.

Watch the video and you'll see him pull (what appears to be) a flying run at the GT-R, taking off a wheel off the Nissan, but then losing control and severely wrecking his own Aston Martin. The impact was so extreme that the engine was dislodged from the chassis! Someone has a bit of a temper issue perhaps?

I'm hearing that Mücke is under threat of having his race license revoked over the incident. Do you agree with this?

BTW you've heard us raving about just how good the FIA GT3 European Championship is, and this clip proves it... Press play to check out some of the heated GT3 battles that raged at Silverstone this past weekend.... all in good spirit mind you!

I've heard a statistic which states that a third of all car accidents happen within a mile of people's homes. This makes sense to me - as we become accustomed to the supposed mundanity of our day to day lives, we simply stop paying attention and revert to auto pilot. What was once exciting and fresh, becomes seemlingly stale and uninteresting and we vacate the premises. I've seen the same attitude with some members of the automotive media who've been in the industry for a long time...

You hear them coming. You know it's them. It's the noise of thunder and lightning. The GT1 Nissan GT-Rs have a unique engine note that means you don't even have to look up to know one is coming. However, standing on the grid waiting for the 18 cars to slot into position it's always best to keep your eyes open. There's no place for bravado: last year at Silverstone I witnessed a driver knocked over by a car cruising into its start place – so when you're mostly looking...

It's year two of the FIA GT1 World Championship. In 2011 some things are the same, but some things very different from last season. Once again I was out in the Middle East for the opening round of the series at the ultra-modern Yas Marina circuit, and Nissan, Aston Martin, Ford, Lamborghini and Corvette were again represented. But in the run up to the new season there's been a shake-up of some of the teams and a lot of the drivers. The biggest shock was the disappearance of Maserati, multiple...

The #22 JRM Nissan GT-R driven by Richard Westbrook and Peter Dumbreck took a fine second place this evening in the opening round of the 2011 GT1 World Championship here in Abu Dhabi. Under the floodlights, Westbrook chased down the leading Aston Martin but just couldn't quite catch it by the time the chequer was waved. The JRM/Sumo Power GT team have risen to the challenge of running four GT-Rs in this year's series, and only bad luck meant they didn't match their great Qualifying Race...

I'm out in Abu Dhabi for the opening round of this year's GT1 World Championship, and already the temperatures are rising in every sense. It hit 40 degrees out on track yesterday, pushing the drivers to their limits – and making it very uncomfortable out snapping around the track. We're here again with Sumo Power GT: now augmented with an additional two Nissan GT-R GT1s run by the parent company JR Motorsports. Check out Andy Blackmore's GT1 preview for more details on the teams...

Sometimes you have good days. And then there are great days. Having taken in the impressive JR Motosport/Sumo Power factory in Rye, Rod and I had one more treat in store courtesy of Sumo Power boss Andy Barnes. We drove out to JRM's separate storage facility in my car; starting up my Alfa GTV, Andy asked if it was a diesel... rather embarrassed I had to say: "uh, no it's a 3L V6..." Okay. I think I need to get a service. Or a new car. When we arrived, I started unpacking my gear...
