Over the past couple of days a stream of 2012 F1 cars have broken cover. Lotus F1 Team (formerly Renault) launched their E20 with this YouTube video featuring Jonny Smith.

Today Red Bull pulled the covers off the RB8, which designer Adrian Newey says is a continued evolution stemming back to the RB5. Will this be the car to take Vettel to a hat-trick of World Championships?

Meanwhile at Jerez in Spain, the Sauber outfit debuted the Ferrari-powered C31. “The C31 is revolutionary where we had fresh ideas, particularly at the rear of the car" said chief designer Matt Morris. "And it is an evolution where we knew we could carry over certain approaches.”

Force India are hoping their new VJM 05 will guide them to fifth place in this year's Constructors' Championship.

With last year's driver line-up of Jamie Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi dropped, it will be Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne who will drive the Toro Rosso STR7s.

Pre-season testing gets under way tomorrow at Jerez, with the Championship kicking off in Australia in just over a month.

One of the highlights of the International Racing Car Show is always the Formula 1 Grid: a rare opportunity to examine up close an almost full-house of current F1 machines – and perhaps the only way without having some very well-connected friends and a whole neck-full of passes. Even dedicated racing magazines and sites only infrequently show close-ups of the detailing of the cars, so I found it very interesting to be able to see for myself the surprisingly large differences between the current...

Racing is what the Autosport International Racing Car Show at the NEC complex in Birmingham is all about. As it does every year, ASI in 2012 showcased a mouth-watering line-up of cars that, given the resources, you could be walking out of the show holding keys for (or at least having the right to press the starter). This is very much a commercial show as much as it is for the fans, and a huge amount of business is done over the four days of the show. On the central stands in the main hall, current...

Ayrton Senna. A name that still reverberates around the modern era of Formula 1 – a hero to even some contemporary Grand Prix drivers, but a villain to others. The release of the award-winning Senna documentary last year has brought his name back into the headlines, and given everyone a chance to relive his career through the film. The Autosport International Racing Car Show at the Birmingham NEC provided an opportunity to see some of his cars in the flesh: a dedicated exhibition area was bolstered...

This weekend The International Racing Car show at the sprawling NEC complex in Birmingham becomes the focus of the racing and performance car world. It's where the manufacturers often choose to launch their new models: this year Nissan and JRM officially launched the GT-R NISMO GT3 at the show. The GT3 variant lacks none of the aggression of its now-redundant GT1 big brother – and the official launch was backed up by a JRM GT-R GT3 taking third position on the grid for today's Dubai...

Alongside the main National Motor Museum and Top Gear areas at Beaulieu in England is the James Bond exhibition: when I visited the museum earlier this year there was a small but quality range of cars on show from various Bond films, serving as a taster for 2012 when there will be even more 007-themed cars on display celebrating 50 years of celluloid Bond. Cars in James Bond films usually offer up the perfect blend of high performance crossed with technology, gadgets and lethal weaponry. How often...

It's no wonder that the recent return of the Lotus name to Formula 1 has caused such controversy – or that there has been such a fight over the two teams laying claim to it this year. Lotus occupy a mythical place in Formula 1's history: the 'English Ferrari', the innovators, the risk-takers – the winners . But if Ferrari could be thought of as Formula 1's beating heart, Lotus was definitely its brain. The team came from humble origins, as with so many British teams...

The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu in England has a full-house of Formula One races from across the decades, chronicling the evolution of the Championship in physical form. Beginning with racers from the '50s and finishing with examples from the most recent era, some vital cars are included in the collection that would normally only be seen in the hands of private collectors or in the museums of the manufacturers themselves. It's what makes Beaulieu such a special place, like the equally...

After seeing this car, the first thing I said to its owner was: "I'm guessing you need a change of underwear everytime it's raining." His response? "Mate, you need a change of underwear even when you drive it in the dry." And that short exchange, in my opinion, perfectly sums up this carbon-clad, turbocharged street monster. Indeed, it takes a certain type of madman - a mad madman perhaps - to turn the wick up on something like a Lotus. This car started life as a 2000...

It's been over three years since a Speedhunter last set foot inside the world's largest collection of Grand Prix cars, so when passing Donington one morning in August, I couldn't resist dropping in for my own first visit. I've been to Donington a couple of times in the past for Prodrift and JDM Allstars events, but could never find the time to visit this rather humble looking museum. Donington Park has quite an illustrious history with Formula One and has featured some amazing battles...

Here we go with a final look at the IAA and I want to start with Mercedes. They had several new models and cars on display. But the thing that struck me the most was the sheer size of their ‘stand'. It wasn't an actual stand but an entire hall filled to the brim with everything Mercedes has on offer. The Mercedes Benz SLS AMG roadster took center stage and was officially unveiled during the IAA. The hall was massive. We got there early in the afternoon and the amount of people there...

One of the most popular displays to take in at the Goodwood Revival – and an easy way to lose many pleasurable hours – is free to see before you even get into the track's confines. This is the People's Concours, the demarcated area just inside the car parks where invited pre-'66 exotica and otherwise is put on display by their proud owners. When you add the road cars dotted around the site and the Goodwood Road Racing Club's enclosure, you begin to wonder how you'll...

A car manufacturer's logo tells you a lot about a car. Your preconceptions of a brand tell you everything you need to know once you see a badge, hence the number of examples where brands are merged (a positive example that could be seen all around at Goodwood being of Lotus and Cortina) or re-badged (does anyone believe Daewoo as Chevrolet?). But then there are some names that just ooze style and substance. It doesn't have to be a word – even abstract symbols mean that you know...

This young boy might not have been born when the 1963 Lotus-Climax 25 was racing in period (in fact, even his father might not have been a twinkle in the eye of his father at that time!), but its graceful, tapered nose was still enough to stop the boy in his tracks whilst being pushed through the Goodwood Revival paddock in his buggy (A Ferrari sportscar maybe? Or maybe a '50s Indycar with those blue wheels?). Once a Lotus fan, always a Lotus fan, and in 15 years time, maybe he'll be driving...

Finding photoshoot locations can be a real pain, particularly if it's on a weekday. And more so if you happen to be in Sydney, Australia, where modified cars are magnets for attention from the Authorities. During our recent Sydney Speedhunting trip, Casey and I were scrambling to find a location in busy Artarmon that was away from prying eyes and the afternoon peak hour traffic. While walking through a random alleyway, we came across a garage that, judging by the fibreglass bodywork, is usually...

Was browsing Autoblog when I came across this video from the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed featuring Jensen Button in the McLaren MP4-12C, Dan Collins in a Lotus 88, and perhaps the coolest - Johnny Milner in his 800 horsepower beast of a Toyota Celica.

If this clip doesn't want to make you book a trip to Goodwood, I'm not sure what will.

On the support bill on the Saturday morning before the Le Mans 24 Hours this year were the Ferrari Trofeo and Le Mans Legends races. The Trofeo race was interesting if only for of the sheer number of 458 Cup cars in action (around 40, plus a smattering of older-spec 430s) but the line-up in the Le Mans Legends race was astounding. Millions of pounds-worth of irreplaceable cars being driven with as much aggression as they would have experienced in period. Lazy show cars these are not… The Le...

The Le Mans 24 Hours is about so much more than the 56 cars on track. 24 hours applies to the racecars, but for a lot of the 240,000 spectators the events is more like a week-long auto carnival. The sprawling interior of the Circuit De La Sarthe – for 358 days of the year a sleepy light-industrial area – is subdivided into lots and inundated with private and public camping areas. With the tens of thousands of tents come tens of thousands of sportscars, and the sheer number and variety...

As we round out our Honda coverage, it is time to have a look at Honda's involvement in Formula One. The Japanese manufacturer has competed in Formula One as a team on two occasions. They originally entered the world of F1 back in 1964. Honda built their own chassis and engine - which was unusual in the 60s - just as the all conquering Cosworth DFV started to take a hold on Formula One. In their second year of competition, Honda won the Mexican Grand Prix with Richie Ginther at the wheel. It...

Last night a friend of mine happened to mention there was a Euro meet on. Taking up his offer and heading out, we surely weren't disappointed. This spot may look a little familiar to some of you, that's because the JDMST meet before last took place at this same venue. It was quite a surprise seeing such different vehicles, as I normally don't see anything past the local Japanese import meets. The night showcased a dozen or so Lotus cars and plenty of other unique vehicles. This Lotus...
