Hello Speedhunters, it has been a while! Just over a week ago myself and the crew headed over to Mallory Park for Awesomefest with the D-Mac86. Awesomefest was to be a pretty laid back four wheeled / two wheeled / music festival so it was an ideal opportunity to do some high speed testing in a car that we still hadn't properly driven in anger. All cars would be pitted together so the fans could see them all in one place. It was nice to see some old faces from back in the day. It has been a long...

Motorsport is a tough old game. You can spend months, years even building your own personal race car and with one slight misjudgement all those hours of hard work can be undone in an instant. Most of us would probably have a little cry and call it a day. Darren McNamara however only saw fresh opportunity when faced with this exact dilemma. To really show you the whole picture of how this car evolved, I need to first take you back to October 2009. D-Mac was finishing his second season as a Formula...

We've just received news that our own D-Mac's Team Need for Speed AE86 has made the cover of Japanese Performance magazine in the United Kingdom. The magazine, which is on shelves now, features a seven page in-depth look beneath the skin of this rotary powered monster. This is the world exclusive feature on the car, also features a Tommi Makinen Evo along with a plethora of other feature cars. The feature will be appearing here on Speedhunters soon ... - Paddy McGrath Team Need for Speed...

Hello Speedhunters ! May I formally introduce the Need for Speed D-Mac86 in her almost finished glory. This is a real proud moment for me and it's amazing to have built one of my dream cars. I must say that I'm very proud of the team behind the build and how we managed to get so much done in such a short space of time. The plan was to finish the car for the Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed launch in Dublin on March 25th and we did! Rolling it onto the trailer at 6.30am that morning after...

Breaking cover for the very first time, the rotary powered Team Need for Speed D-Mac AE86 made its public debut at the Irish launch of the latest Need for Speed title, Shift2 Unleashed. To celebrate the occassion of this long-awaited moment, we've put together a series of dektop images for your viewing pleasure. I still can't quite believe how quickly this all came about. Although it is not completely finished according to D-Mac's & MCNSport's high standards, it was absolutely...

Welcome to update number eight of our crazy AE86 project! This time we are not just going to look at the new details on the build, but we are also going to take a look at the finished product via Shift2 Unleashed. I love this first pic from Paddy, it captures the real presence that the car seems to have around the shop, it seems no one can pass by without doing a double take. And so to the in-game car parked here at the famous Eau Rouge at the Spa Francorchamps circuit. It's so cool for me to...

Back once again and our Falken Tires have arrived for testing! It feels pretty good to be at this stage as we know we're getting close to finally driving this beast. We are also at the stage of getting the aero fitted. Our Work Meister S1s' are gone for powder coating but we have kept one behind for mocking up the aero fitment. All the aero parts are produced by us and available at www.mcnsport.com . The N3 aero kit is making this one of the widest AE86's in the world. And man it is wide...

It's update time again Speedhunters and a lot of work has gone on since last time. When Paddy arrives we scurry around to get stuff out of the way and stuff in the way that we want included. He seems to have caught that moment quite well. The Owen Development's turbo is becoming a more permanent part of the build and very shortly it will be bolted in place for the final time. The downpipe has been made with the intercooler piping currently being done. The oil and water lines are also nearly...

Okay, the Need for Speed D-Mac '86 is back to its build bay in the shop which is getting more and more untidy as the weeks go on! Hopefully it should come together quickly and we can tidy up round here. You might notice the front tube extension has not been painted. This is because at the time the car was going for paint we did not have the intercooler and could not make the brackets to hold it in place and also the brackets for the bumper bar need to be made and we need all the aero on for that...

Here is a quick update for you guys on the Need for Speed D-Mac '86. Our mock up exhaust manifold has been sent to Martelius exhausts in Finland along with our front and rear coolant pipes to be ceramic coated. Here is a shot of the new Martelius manifold being welded in Finland. And here is the finished product. I think you'll agree they have done a great job and the new manifold will be at MCNSPORT HQ very shortly for final fitment. As mentioned above Martelius offer a ceramic coating service...

If you've been following our Facebook page, you might've seen updates of Darren McNamara's Team NFS RE86. The chassis just returned from the paint shop and the job of putting the car together is the next step. But I'll let Paddy brief you guys on that as he has another build update coming up.

Seeing how DMac is in total rotary mode, he sent us this awesome video he came across of a Group B FB RX-7 having a bit of fun. There's no music, just the tuned harmonics of spinning triangles as it echoes throughout the European countryside.

Welcome to the third update of the Need for Speed D-Mac 86. I have to say looking at these pictures I'm starting to get excited about this car, it's shaping up to be something really special. It's hard to get your head around the placement of the Owen Developments GT3582HTA turbo in this pic so let's take a look at the next image. Now it makes sense ... well kind of. The turbo is mounted differently to the norm. We have turned it 90 degrees and the exhaust now runs down the side it...

Just a quick update for all you Speedhunters ! We are in a bit of a transition period here, most parts have been mocked up and are away being machined (or moulded in the case of the FRP) so let's give you a small run through what we've done before we do a much larger update in a week or two ... As you can see from the above picture, that is a very odd place to have the steering rack in an AE86 but that's where it now calls home, right in front of the 13B motor. Also we have cut the bulkhead...

It's update time !!! The Need for Speed D-Mac '86 is coming along very nicely at MCNSPORT HQ. Let's take a look at some of the interesting details of the build so far...... I wanted a way to be able to add caster to the front suspension without pulling the wheel forward so we got these tops made up and welded in place ... simple but effective! The scuttle or wiper panel has been removed and the roll cage has been extended to the strut tops and reinforced further with swagged plates. I...

It is my absolute pleasure to be able to announce the Team Need for Speed D-Mac 86 . This car has consumed my life for the past couple of months and i'm delighted to be finally able to share it with all you Speedhunters on AE86 day. This will be the worlds wildest AE86 and will be and will not only aim to uphold our excellent drift record but also double as a grip machine, but how did all this get started ? Well most of you will know me from wearing the Blue and Teal of Falken Tire... But it's...

When I met Darren for his headshots for the DMac retrospective , he had only just put the finishing touches to the latest incarnation of the MCNSport AE86. It's been several months since I last saw the car tucked away at the MCNSport shop; before that it was at an AE86 trackday at Mondello Park. I'd heard a few rumours circulating around for a while that the guys were planning all sorts of different engine conversions for the lightweight Trueno. 20V's and Formula Atlantic 4AGE's were...
