I had to share this car with you all, very impressive work went into this Evo VI and it was almost all done by one chap named Clive over in the good ol UK. First off, everything except for the cage, the paint, and the engine mapping was done by Clive himself, who is an Aircraft Engineer by trade, so everything you see below, was done by him in his spare time at home. I was checking out what was going on over at http://www.timeattackforums.com and I came across someone who saw this build-up thread...

Saw this rad looking Evo 8 on www.timeattackforums.com , its a 2003 with a 2.3L stroker engine and GT35 turbo. The livery is an interesting take of urban camo mixed with gloss yellow and black on the rest of the car. - Carl Jarrett

I've hardly finished unpacking from my last Speedhunting trip, and already it's time to hop on a plane and head to Seattle for this weekend's Formula Drift event. Before I move on to cars sliding around on pavement though, I have a few more photos to share of cars sliding around off the pavement at the X Games last weekend....

I am sure many of you might wonder what it takes to turn a regular, bone stock- as it came from the maker EVO X into a dominating fire breathing Time Attack monster such as our recently unveiled AMS Performance / NOS Energy Drink Time Attack EVO X. Well today Speedhunters has a special treat for you as I am going to take you behind the scenes and show in detail how our time attack evo came to be. So this is in fact our time attack evo as it came to us from Mitsubishi and as shown by the look on Eric’s...

I saw that a few of you guys wanted to see some more Evo Wagon material, so I headed to the treasure chest of car photos that is Minkara and found this shot of a tuned Evo IX Wagon running on the circuit in Japan.
I don't think a station wagon has ever looked more evil...

It may not be AWD, but when I found this photo in the Mitsubishi archive I knew I had to post it here. This epic shot of Andrew Cowan landing in his Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR was taken at the 1975 Safari Rally in Africa.
Those Evos we are so familiar with wouldn't be here without Mitsubishi's experience doing stuff like this...

I'm not sure why YouTube car videos always seem to be set to a strange soundtrack, but there are some cool shots here of the Mitsubishi Starion Rally in action along with some of its rivals.
Japanese car nerds will probably recognize the Starion Rally from the "Special Stage" comic series and movie.

I have yet to see a EVO X on the road in Europe - I have seen one in real life, but only at a dealer... but the EVO X seems to be a bit hit in America and is quickly becoming a popular tuning platform. The Chicago-based AMS shop is one of the leading proponents of US Evo tuning and they built up this ‘silver bullet' street/Time Attack machine. They got the car fresh from the dealer with only a few miles on the odometer and started to tear it apart. The guys at AMS started the build with...

This car has all the right, to look as crazy is it does. The engine has been bored to 2.2 liters and sports a huge turbo. The exterior has been enhanced with a complete VARIS bodykit. I really wonder what this car is capable of. You can see the buildup of the car on the owners blog here . -Jeroen Willemsen

Over the last few years aesthetic tuning has become an important part of the whole aftermarket world. One company I have always made sure to drop by and see at the Tokyo Auto Salon is Charge Speed, creators of some of the most eye-catching body parts for JDM parts. If there is one thing I appreciate in any and every area of car customization it is quality. If you are as picky and as anal as I am you will know what I am talking about. When it comes to body parts quality is probably the most important...

Although the "big name" Japanese performance machines like the RX7, GT-R, Evo, and Impreza are great cars, I've long been intrigued by the lesser known models that were produced by Japanese companies in the '80s and '90s. There are several of these cars that fit into our AWD theme this month and I plan on looking at a few of them during the next few weeks. One model that I've always been interested in is the Mitsubishi Legnum or in other words, the Galant Wagon. The early 4G63-powered Galant VR4 has become a cult favorite, and it's an important car to Mitsubishi's AWD performance history. For that later versions of the Galant VR4, Mitsubishi powered the car with a twin turbo 2.5L V6 that was rated at the standard 280hp limit of the day. Combined with a high tech AWD system, the Galant and Legnum VR4's were potent machines, and a good rival to Subaru's Legacy....

...but used for levitation! Since this is the start of an awesome AWD themed month, I figure we would start off with something a bit light hearted and fun.
To add a bit more fun, view this shot while listening to the, also, iconic "The Thieving Magpie," by classical composer, Gioachino Rossini. It accompanies this shot quite perfectly!...

Evasive Motorsports have been busy building a demo car for Voltex Japan. The car has been fitted with a front lip spoiler and diffuser, along with a rear carbon wing and hood scoop. The front spoiler works very well with the car and I'm sure it will help in generating downforce. Especially after seeing some of Voltex's earlier creation inside a windtunnel. The double bladed carbon wing needs some getting used to, but I'm sold. For more Voltex goodies you can log onto the Evasive Motorsport...

The 2009 Hyper Meeting in Tsukuba turned out to be a very reassuring event for the whole tuning industry surrounding Evos, Imprezas and the odd Legacy. Compared to last year's event the uncertainty with the new Impreza and Lancer has all but disappeared thanks to tons of new products having been developed. You can now find all sorts of new bits and pieces to spice up the exterior, while on the engine front things have taken a huge leap. This however doesn't mean that older cars have been...

Every so often, you get tired of being cool with the crowd. You become so cool with the crowd, that you blend in with everyone else and, thus, becoming part of the paradox of cool. The guys at Road Race thought about this and they became increasingly bored of tuning the "people's super car": the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. The Evo field has saturated in every form of motorsport. So what did the guys at Road Race do? They picked up a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse to compete in various motorsports...

If you were looking for HKS at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon, you may have been disappointed to find that the company didn't have much of a presence this year. Like a lot of companies, HKS was forced to cut back on their TAS showing due to the economic turndown in Japan and around the world. They might not have had a proper booth at TAS 2009,but a few of HKS cars did manage to find their way into the show. For example, on display outside of the Makuhari Messe near the makeshift D1 course, was this rather unassuming white HKS-built Lancer Evolution X....

It's natural that when it comes to Japanese car tuning, people will tend to look towards Japan for the latest and greatest in car builds. This doesn't mean that there aren't incredible Japanese car builds coming from places of other than Japan. For example, the Roger Clark GC8 Impreza or Martin French's Altezzas that have been featured here on Speedhunters recently. When it comes to American-tuned Japanese cars and Lancer Evolutions in particular, West Chicago's AMS Performance...
