More retro/pinup girl scenes from the Mooneyes Show... I like these selections better than the last. This selection of photos is more natural I suppose; these are pics of some of the "normal girls" who dressed up to go to the show with their boyfriends, etc... I prefer these types of girls (er, natural looking girls, not necessarily girls with bfs, haha) rather than girls who obviously got dolled up to win the pinup contest. Up top is a girl sitting on the rear tire of a hotrod! Cool, perfect...

Okay, okay, by popular request, here it is... Everyone's been asking for photos of the pinup girls from the Mooneyes Christmas Show. In the midst of going through all the pics I took of cars at the event, I finally was able to put together a small "eye candy" gallery for all you guys that requested it. I understand what some of you have been saying - stuff like "these stylish pinup girls are hotter than the girls in the import car scene" and all that jazz. Everyone has different...

More car photos from the Mooneyes Irwindale Show... I like the colorways on this black and olive green metallic custom up front. Like I mentioned before, I'm not a fan of flames, but this car attracted me because of the non-traditional colors and the cleanliness of the whole thing. I can appreciate the hard work and planning that went into this car, even though it may not necessarily be my style. Notice the spiderweb pinstriping by the window and the top mounted mirrors... cool! Now THIS is totally...

As many of you already know, the art of pinstriping is very much connected to hot rod culture. Back in the day, before it was commonplace to use die cut vinyl plotters for making stickers for cars, people used to take their cars to have their favorite designs pinstriped - hand painted onto the cars! This being said, pinstriping became popular for putting numbers, sponsor names, racing stripes, and other designs onto cars... and even made it to the helmets of the drivers. Up above, I was able to get...

One thing I wanted to mention to you all, when I went to the Mooneyes Christmas Party at Irwindale this past weekend, I invited one of my good friends, Travis Hodges , to come with me to hang out and shoot photos of the event. Travis is a feature film director who lives in the heart of the Hollywood area. Although he has more of a background in action sports films (snowboarding) than cars, he totally understands why we like the underground automotive cultures surrounding cars. He experienced some...

After attending the Mooneyes Christmas Party at Irwindale Speedway this past weekend, I think I discovered that I've become a big fan of super slammed lowboy rat rods; carefully planned and tastefully done of course. One of my favorite display vehicles from the show this weekend was definitely this rat rod truck, which was parked at the Cragar Wheels booth. This truck is part of the "Axle Draggers" crew, which is apparently from the South Side... of LA? Or SGV? Not sure. Wherever they're...

As promised, here are more photos from the Mooneyes Christmas Party at Irwindale... it has been tough trying to process these photos quickly, because every day since the Mooneyes event at Irwindale, I've had all day photo shoots. Today I have another car to shoot while we have a short break from the rain! Whew things are busy right now! I absolutely love the style and patina of the super low suicide rod above... from the cream colored paint to the combination of surface rust and cool pinstriping...

I hope you all had a great weekend, because I know I sure did. It started getting colder in Southern California this week, and it even rained a couple times; soon it might be time to pack away our shorts and summer gear for the winter. Even though I know most of us think of drifting when we think of Irwindale , this weekend I went back to our familiar home track in Irwindale for a different event altogether - the Annual Mooneyes Christmas Party and Drag Race ! I need to be honest with you all. This...

I have a lot of work ahead of me with all my Rev Speed Time Attack photos to sort through, but before that I wanted to post up some photos from last weekend's Yokohama Hot Rod and Custom Car Show. The machine in this photo here was my personal favorite of the entire show. It's a V8-powered gasser built out of a vintage Toyota Stout pick up truck. It has all the typical gasser features like a dropped straight axle in the front and headers protruding through the fenders. This thing should be cool enough to make even the staunchest Japanese car purist appreciate an American V8-powered Toyota. ...

I feel kind of strange right now. One part of me is focused tomorrow's Rev Speed Time Attack at Tsukuba Circuit, but the other part of me is still in "hot rod mode" in the wake of Sunday's Yokohama Hot Rod and Custom Car Show. This kind of variety is what I love about cars.
Anyways, here's another batch of photos from this weekend's show. The car above is the '57 Chevy Gasser built by Jimmy Shine of SoCal Speed Shop. You probably read about him in Rod's features back in October. As you can see, the Chevy was quite the attraction at the show. This was one of several US-built cars and bikes that were shipped to Japan just for this event....

Yokohama is one of the epicenters of Japan's hot rodding and custom car scene, and there is no event bigger than the Mooneyes Yokohama Hot Rod and Custom Car Show which has been held annually for 17 years. The 2008 edition of the show was held on Sunday and I headed to Yokohama to have a look. I sort of a Mooneyes fanboy, so I had been anxiously awaiting this one for while. As you can see by the photo, the show is one of the coolest, and most unique car events in Japan. Yes, that guy is pinstriping a girl's thighs......

Did you like Nissan month on Speedhunters? Unlike our Porsche month in September, I haven't seen one complaint about an overload of Nissan content yet! Do we have a slight bias towards Japanese cars perhaps? ;> As you can see, we haven't quite finished with our Nissan themed stories just yet. Mike has some more coverage from the Nismo Festival to complete and we're still ironing out the final touches on our R35 GTR Super GT film.... Looking ahead to December, we have some very cool...
