NASCAR is something that's always bound to split opinions. Some people love it, some absolutely despise it. No matter what your thoughts on the sport are, I think we can all agree that the stock cars of yesteryear were much more exciting machines than today's cars.
With that in mind, here's a look at a '69 Dodge Charger Daytona I spotted last month during my visit to Canepa Design....

A few weeks ago I was on my way down to Bakersfield for the California Hot Rod Reunion, when I dropped by a truck stop for a quick snack break. If you've ever been to one of these roadside megastores you know they sell all sorts of strange stuff. Whether you need a corn dog, a CB radio, or a patriotic t-shirt, they've got you covered. They also have a selection of diecast cars, and that's where I first saw the Hot Wheels Vintage Racing series....

Time for our second look at the car manufacturers that were part of SEMA. You can read Part One here , where we looked at Chevrolet and Scion amongst others. Although small, Mazda had a great line-up of cars on their stand. Tucked away from the main halls, the North American Division showed two MX-5 concepts, both of which were great executions. Similar in concept to the recent Porsche Boxster Spyder, the Mazda MX-5 Spyder has a simple canopy roof, which transforms the profile of the car. The new...

As I made my way through the SEMA show last Monday, I found an interesting shape under a cover in the Source Interlink booth. I could tell by the profile that it was a B-body Mopar of some sort, but one that had been drastically altered.
The following day, I cruised by again to find the Roadrattler, a heavily modified '69 Plymouth Roadrunner built by Spitzer Concepts and owned by Jim Mitchell....

How's this for automotive sensory overload? This photo of a Plymouth Superbird drifting in Northern Europe is a few years old, but I don't think words can express the coolness of a slammed Mopar wing car sliding around a track.
Unfortunately I don't know much about this car other than that it was built by a fellow named Tommy "Tiger" Björk.
Do any of our readers from the region have any more info on this beast and its current whereabouts?

Remember the Mysterious Dodge Charger Daytona that I posted last week? The car got got quite a bit of interest, and our friend Rob Einaudi over at Car Domain did a bit of searching and found that the car is owned by a guy named Sean Machado. It's not a real Daytona, but a very convincing clone built for track use (Sean also owns a genuine Daytona). Rob also dug up this clip of the beast running flat out at Willow Springs with some other Mopars last month.
Just listen to it roar around Big WIllow. Awesome!
Thanks for the tip Rob!

Coming off my NASCAR post, I thought this would be a perfect time to post a quick spotlight of a car I came across at the Mopar Spring Fling show in Van Nuys.
From across the grass the shape of this '69 Dodge Charger Daytona was unmistakable, and I quickly found myself heading right toward this piece of Mopar history....

Let's keep moving right along now with a second selection of photo's from Sunday's Spring Fling Mopar bash in Van Nuys.
I'm not sure just what it is about these Mopar machines, but they just have an emotion connection that you just don't see as often with other cars. If you were to visit an event like the Spring Fling, you'd know exactly what I'm talking about....

Here in car-obsessed Southern California, there is NEVER a shortage of automotive things to do. Fords were the order of business last Sunday at Knott's Berry Farm, and this weekend it was time for the Mopar folks to step into the spotlight at Spring Fling XXV at Woodley Park in Van Nuys....

When we were kids, my brother and I would call Dodge A100's and Ford Econolines "funny looking pickups".
Are they funny looking? Yes I suppose. Are they cool? Without a doubt.
I spotted this pro street style A100 at the Hot Rod Reunion last month and got a real kick out of it. There's nothing like having a wicked V8 sitting right between you and your passenger.

What do you do when you need an easy way to haul your project car?
You turn it into a trailer.
You might remember Aaron Beck's Kuda project from New Zealand. The car is currently being rebuilt, and Aaron came up with this brillant way to haul the car back and forth between work, home, the sandblasters, and anywhere else it needs to go.
You can check Aaaron's blog for more updates on the build.

Last month as I walked through the pits at the California Hot Rod Reunion, I caught a glance at the insane looking Plymouth you see above.
Before I even got any closer, I knew I found a perfect Car Spotlight for Haulers & Sedans month....

The Fiat 500 may be common on the roads of Europe, but North America has had to wait a couple of years before this small car appears on this side of the Atlantic. As a prelude to its North American Introduction, Mopar showed a one-off Fiat 500 ‘GT’ Concept under their new Mopar ‘Underground’ brand at SEMA. Many of the Speedhunters team are big fans of the 500 and in many ways, I prefer this concept to the Abarth variants with their loud graphics. According to show staff, this...

One our readers by the name of Keven sent this great photo of a Pontiac Firebird and Plymouth Cuda doin' the dirty during an event at the Pont-Rouge dragstrip in Quebec Canada.
More cool shots can be seen on his Flickr page.

I was glad to see that my coverage of the Mopar Spring Fling in Van Nuys went over pretty well, so here's a final batch of shots from Woodley Park last Sunday....

After spending two consecutive weekends trackside on the streets of Long Beach, I headed up to Van Nuys yesterday for a slight change of pace. The annual Mopar "Spring Fling" was going down at Woodley Park, and being a big fan of the Chrysler Corp's vintage muscle cars (who isn't really?), I had the event marked on my calendar for a while....

Hey Speedhunters! Love the site, been sifting through for a few years now, love how it effortlessly moves through such a variety of cars and related culture, from traditional rodding to flushed out drifters.
This is my '73 Plymouth 'Cuda, my first car, a long term project, and my introduction to working on cars.

Hey Speedhunters,
My name is Kevin Cederwall from Walnut Creek California. I’ve been working on cars and dreaming about having a nice one of my own since before I could even drive. I got extremely lucky though when the opportunity to pick up one of my relative's 68 Dodge Charger came along.
This whole process started about 3-4 years ago at around the age of 16, when I picked the car up from his house not knowing what I was getting myself into. But I learned quickly and started with tinkering on the car, with mostly small projects. ...

It's not too often that we post cars from Ebay here, but I'm going to make an exception. The other day my dad and I were checking out some of the old station wagons up for sale on the site when we came across this '65 Plymouth Belvedere Wagon gasser.
The moment I saw the car, I knew I had to share it here.
A gasser station wagon? It's hard to get any more maverick or misfit than that!...

Some of you guys may have heard the news today that Shaun Carlson passed away over the weekend. Shaun was the owner of NuFormz Racing and was a pioneer in both drag racing and later in drifting while working with Samuel Hubinette.
Shaun will be sorely missed by everyone in the community and it won't be the same having Formula D events without him.
Here's sending our best to wishes to all of Shaun's family and friends from everyone at Speedhunters.
