Over the course of our discussions on this year's Speedhunters Awards, we decided that a couple new categories should be added. There's nothing quite like a Muscle Car, and given the number of them featured this year, we felt these Muscle Machines deserve their own category. Here's our inaugural list of nominees for Muscle Machine of the Year....

Hiya folks. I hope you are enjoying our focus on Street Cars and Sleepers this month. Is our search for wolf-in-sheep's-clothing street machines working for you? Personally, I quite like the notion: a car with hidden purpose and stealth capabilities. Unlike visually modified street cars, sleepers will often look intentionally unstylish and unassuming; usually to avoid attracting attention from the police, but also to surprise unsuspecting victims. I have no doubt, that this Nova, built by Kurt...

As I mentioned in my preview post the other day, the first stop on my weekend visit to SoCal was Autoclub Speedway in Fontana for a little autocross action. An Inland Empire parking lot during the middle of July might not be the most desirable locale, but the team at Hotchkis made it well worth the trip....

Remember the Mysterious Dodge Charger Daytona that I posted last week? The car got got quite a bit of interest, and our friend Rob Einaudi over at Car Domain did a bit of searching and found that the car is owned by a guy named Sean Machado. It's not a real Daytona, but a very convincing clone built for track use (Sean also owns a genuine Daytona). Rob also dug up this clip of the beast running flat out at Willow Springs with some other Mopars last month.

Just listen to it roar around Big WIllow. Awesome!

Thanks for the tip Rob!

Let's keep moving right along now with a second selection of photo's from Sunday's Spring Fling Mopar bash in Van Nuys. I'm not sure just what it is about these Mopar machines, but they just have an emotion connection that you just don't see as often with other cars. If you were to visit an event like the Spring Fling, you'd know exactly what I'm talking about....

Here in car-obsessed Southern California, there is NEVER a shortage of automotive things to do. Fords were the order of business last Sunday at Knott's Berry Farm, and this weekend it was time for the Mopar folks to step into the spotlight at Spring Fling XXV at Woodley Park in Van Nuys....

Ahh Bonneville... there must be something very rejuvenating about spending the day out on the salt flats. Each day I leave the event feeling grounded and inspired -kinda like I've had a nice day at the spa . In fact everyone at this event seems to be particularly relaxed. Maybe there's a cleansing quality to the salt... Or perhaps it's the fact that pretty well everyone at the event is living out their passion. I'm sure the man who pilots this rod must feel like all is well in his...

After spending two consecutive weekends trackside on the streets of Long Beach, I headed up to Van Nuys yesterday for a slight change of pace. The annual Mopar "Spring Fling" was going down at Woodley Park, and being a big fan of the Chrysler Corp's vintage muscle cars (who isn't really?), I had the event marked on my calendar for a while....

I might be just a little biased in favor of the new Chevrolet Camaro. After all, it's the car that won me a hundred bucks. No, I didn't win an outlaw street race. In fact I won the money long before my week-long test drive of the 2010 Camaro SS. ...

Hey Speedhunters! Love the site, been sifting through for a few years now, love how it effortlessly moves through such a variety of cars and related culture, from traditional rodding to flushed out drifters. This is my '73 Plymouth 'Cuda, my first car, a long term project, and my introduction to working on cars. ...

Hey Speedhunters, My name is Kevin Cederwall from Walnut Creek California. I’ve been working on cars and dreaming about having a nice one of my own since before I could even drive. I got extremely lucky though when the opportunity to pick up one of my relative's 68 Dodge Charger came along. This whole process started about 3-4 years ago at around the age of 16, when I picked the car up from his house not knowing what I was getting myself into. But I learned quickly and started with tinkering on the car, with mostly small projects. ...

The Mustang RTR-C is simply a far-fetched dream of mine that came true thanks to the hard work and dedication from everyone that I teamed up with for the project. While it started as a one-off SEMA project and a sick street car for me to rock, it has spawned into something much bigger and has turned into the inspiration of me wanting to create the more affordable Mustang RTR and the overall RTR brand. My initial vision was pretty simple, I wanted to build the most badass modern Ford Mustang street...

A few weeks ago the wife and I picked up a much-need bookshelf for my office. As I unpacked boxes of magazines and books that had been stored away for a couple years, I came across a stack of Hot Rod magazines from the late '60s and early '70s. I think I paid about five dollars for the whole bunch at a swap meet several years ago. There's really no better way to look at automotive history than browsing through the pages of a vintage magazine. The articles, the photography, the advertisements, and even the smell of the pages - it's quite the experience. ...

I've got a few more posts to churn out before the year's up. First up, I want to quickly share this special set of photos with you. They were taken by our in-house artiste-as-photographer: Linhbergh Nguyen this past April at the birthplace of hot rodding: the El Mirage Dry Lakes . Those of you familiar with the history of Hot Rodding will know that it's at locations like the El Mirage dry lakes in the Mojave Desert where the pioneers of the scene first organized land speed record top...

With the Mustang, Ford is in possession of a very valuable property: a modern car with soul and character. Think about it: the vast majority of car companies these days make all of their models with uniform styling features. It's even hard to distinguish between different cars of the same class these days. It's for this reason I've developed a bit of a soft spot for this retro macho machine, especially the hotted up versions that companies like Shelby and now RTR are putting out. The...

Of all the "new" pony cars on the market today I like the look of the Mustang the best. In my books, it's the only one of the three which doesn't look over bloated and fat compared to its original version. SEMA itself was filled with modified 2010 Mustangs, most of which didn't do much for me though. I also didn't pay much attention to most of the big wheeled Pro Touring "Stangs either... But there was one Mustang that caused me to stop in my tracks: the JM Enterprises...

"I'm afraid of Americans" was the name of a David Bowie song of recent times... I have to say I can relate to this song a little bit. As a Canadian who spent most of my adult life living in the UK, I find America to be a crazy, intriguing and perhaps slightly intimidating place. Sometimes, it's every bit as foreign to me as some of you would consider say Germany or even Japan. That said, I do love many aspects of the country and its people. The can do attitude is something that...

The Langley 'Good Times' Cruise-in started in 1997 by a group of classic car enthusiasts. Eleven years on, and the small town, just outside of Vancouver is now one of the largest cruises in North America. Classic car TV personality and handbar moustache owner (!) Dennis, Gauge puts it in his top 10. I hadn't been to the Cruise before, so I didn't know what to expect, but I came away massively impressed. In this post we'll concentrate on Domestic cars, but Part Two will feature...
