These past few days, I've been digging through the year's photo archives and I've enjoyed the trip down memory lane. As great as that nostalgic trip was, I found myself feeling a bit bad as I've forgotten some of the photo shoots I've been on. When you're in the grind of going to shoot after shoot, often the photographic events start to blur and blend into one another. But if there was one shoot that stood out as memorable and unique, it was when I spent a morning with Vaughn...

Where to start? That was the question that lingered in my mind when it came time to write up the feature on Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s Team NFS RTR-X. Unlike a lot of the cars we feature here on Speedhunters, the RTR-X is something that many of you are already familiar with - whether you followed Vaughn's build posts, saw the car at an event, or even drove it virtually in an NFS game. ...

When you see a finished product, no matter what it may be, it is hard to imagine all the planning, conceptualizing and work that went into it. Designers have always said that the best designed products are the ones that look like they haven't been designed at all. Take for example, products made from a personal electronics company with a fruit as its name and logo, any Braun house appliance, or a high-end sports car. Thousands of hours have gone into the creation of these various things and it's...

Following on from our Random Snap on Jonathan Brand's full scale paper Ford Mustang, we dug around the internet and found this video which shows many of the pieces completed. I wonder how many people he's had to stop from sitting on the driver's seat?

Speedhunter Melinda Neil discovered that New York based artist Jonathan Brand is undertaking an amazing project: he is recreating a life-sized 1969 Ford Mustang. Out of paper. Using archival inket print outs, Brand has been slowly constructing this 1:1 scale Mustang piece by piece. Everything, from the water pump to the tyre tread to the spark plugs, has been meticulously made out of paper. Previously Brand spent five years restoring an (actual) Mustang with his father, however he eventually sold...

The circuit of Spa-Francorchamps is a law unto itself. It obeys no one, is unpredictable, dangerous and capricious. Located deep in the forests of the Ardennes, the area has its own microclimate, meaning it could be raining on one part of the track whilst it's bone dry on another. On a single lap around it a driver is faced with some of the most consistently challenging corners on the planet. Now think about doing that 550 times. For 24 hours. In a high-powered GT racing machine. In the wet...

You might remember this amazing clip that we posted last year, but there's no way we could leave it off our Top 20 Overtakes list. Watch as Parnelli Jones slips and slides his Boss 302 Mustang off the track and right by a couple of rival Camaros at a race during the brilliant 1970 SCCA Trans Am season. Not only does this attest to Parnelli's skill behind the wheel, but also to the overall greatness of Trans Am racing during this period.

The supercar displays at the FIA GT races always provide a mouth-watering array of cars to gawp at even before you make it to the race paddock: they're a great way to remind you that the DNA of what you see on the track invariably has a road car origin – and that the racecars in turn influence their road-going sisters. So far this year the quantity of cars on display at the races has varied from minimal but rare-as-hen's-teeth to a sensory overload of svelte Euro metal, with everything...

The Le Mans 24 Hours is about so much more than the 56 cars on track. 24 hours applies to the racecars, but for a lot of the 240,000 spectators the events is more like a week-long auto carnival. The sprawling interior of the Circuit De La Sarthe – for 358 days of the year a sleepy light-industrial area – is subdivided into lots and inundated with private and public camping areas. With the tens of thousands of tents come tens of thousands of sportscars, and the sheer number and variety...

I just stumbled upon this video of Yves Faber tearing through the Eschdorf hill climb course last week in his Fox body Mustang we featured a while ago.

Remember to turn your speakers up!

As many of you already know, the RTR-X hit the dyno last week at and put down solid numbers: 401 horses and 378 FT/LBS of torque. The Ford 5.0L V8 and those numbers were designed to do one thing, to burn through a set of tires as quickly as possible. Yesterday, at Willow Springs International Raceway, Vaughn Gittin Jr. did exactly that. JR along with the guys from Twins Turbo Motorsports had their first test session with the car. As you can see, in these photos, the test session went quite well....

Things have been extremely busy for me over the last few days as we make final preparations for the NFS SoCal event this weekend. We have an incredible selection of cars that will be out there and I think this will be one of the most unique automotive gatherings in a long time. In the meantime though, I want to take a quick break and update you guys with some of the progress I've made on my personal 2006 Mustang GT over the last couple weeks....

Before I get into my impressions on the 2011 Mustang GT - a quick review of modern pony car history is in order. For a good part of the previous decade, the Ford Mustang stood as the only pony car offering in the United States. The Challenger and 'Cuda had faded away decades ago, and GM's Camaro and Firebird had rattled themselves out of production by the early 2000's. A full redesign in 2005 boosted excitement for the Mustang - while it continued to stand as the go-to choice for affordable...

Just like year, I was invited once again by my good friend Yves Faber to check out the International Motorshow Luxembourg. Unlike the bigger motorshows, the exhibitor lineup is mostly of a private or dealer nature, with no real manufacturer taking part. For the fifth year in a row, Yves, along with a few other drifters have been doing drift demos at the show, entertaining the crowd with a little more than static action. I arrived on the second day and started off with a nice drift family breakfast...

As you might know, back in April I got rid of my NC Mazda MX-5 and became the proud owner of a 2006 Ford Mustang GT. I've since put a few thousand miles on the Mustang, and found that even while bone stock the car was a blast to drive. Still, all stock things must come to an end sometime. Last month, I finally got around to to upgrading the suspension on my car....

What a long day it's been. I left my house in LA this morning at 430am, bound for day one of the 2010 SEMA Show. After a slight delay, (thanks Nevada Highway Patrol!), I arrived at the Las Vegas Convention Center just in time to pick up my badge and head to the Ford booth, where Vaughn Gittin Jr. would be debuting the RTR-X Mustang....

Just wanted to follow up my Trans Am post from earlier today with this preview from a DVD chronicling the history series.

MAKE SURE you watch the scene at 2:10 to see Parnelli Jones perform what has to be the coolest overtake ever.

Here's a new car announcement that fits in perfectly with our old school theme this month. Today Ford officially announced the return of the Boss 302 Mustang - to coincide with this weekend's historic auto races at Laguna Seca. The original Boss 302 is one of the most iconic Mustangs ever, made famous in the SCCA Trans Am series by Parnelli Jones. How will the modern version stack up?...

I'm gonna come out and say it - the main reason I'm doing a spotlight on the car is because of the wheels. While this Mustang car looks very similar to Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s Formula D competition car, it's not. It's his demo/practice car, used for events like the drifting show him and JTP put on at Barrett Jackson last weekend....

Some more big news for Formula Drift today. Falken Tire has just announced the latest addition to their drift team for 2010 - Justin Pawlak. Justin will be driving an ASD-prepped 2010 Ford Mustang similar to Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s - making for two Mustangs on the Falken team. This is huge news for Team Falken, and a big move for JTP, who impressed last season in the Bergenholtz RX8. The 2010 season just keeps sounding better and better... For more info, check out the press release Falken put up...
