Also among the motorsport news this week was the unveiling of Ford's 2013 Fusion NASCAR machine. Beneath the skin the car doesn't share much with the production Fusion, but Ford made a strong effort to make the car look more like its street version. With bulging fenders and distinct front and rear fascias, it certainly looks more production-like than any of the current NASCAR vehicles. The new Fusion will undergo testing throughout 2012 before debuting at the 2013 Daytona 500. It may not be as "stock" as the stock cars of the '60s and '70s, but it's surely a step in the right direction. What do you think? -Mike Garrett (Photo from Charlotte Motor Speedway)...

The other day we took a look at a record-breaking Dodge Daytona stock car from the Canepa collection, and today we have another historic stock car - albeit one built for an entirely different purpose. Back in the mid 1970s an effort was made by NASCAR to create a class for its cars in IMSA and FIA sports car racing. This '75 Ford Torino is a result of that short experiment....

NASCAR is something that's always bound to split opinions. Some people love it, some absolutely despise it. No matter what your thoughts on the sport are, I think we can all agree that the stock cars of yesteryear were much more exciting machines than today's cars. With that in mind, here's a look at a '69 Dodge Charger Daytona I spotted last month during my visit to Canepa Design....

For the fourth and final part of my visit to Canepa Design, I want to share some of the historic machines that can be found upstairs at the Canepa Motorsports Museum. It's a collection that quite frankly puts a lot of dedicated auto museums to shame - especially if you fancy yourself a race car or two....

Over the weekend, Cardiff Bay in Wales played host to the Red Bull Speed Jam. Although the main event was the Red Bull Kart Fight finals, I'm sure the 5,000 strong crowd were drawn to the side shows. F1 rookie Daniel Ricciardo took the wheel of a NASCAR through the Cardiff city streets....

Love it or hate it, here's another NASCAR entry for our Top 20 Overtakes list. At this year's Sprint Cup race at Auto Club Speedway, Kyle Busch was leading with just a couple laps to go, with five-time champ Jimmie Johnson right on his tail. With Busch and Johnson battling for the lead, Kevin Harvick moved in to challenge from third place, eventually putting his car right on Johnson's rear bumper during the final lap.

What happens next is pretty strange, coming off the back straight Harvick pushes Johnson into the corner, forcing him offline before passing on the outside to take the lead and the race victory. It was a thrilling end to what had been a pretty uneventful race, and one of the great racing moves of the year so far.

When looking at the Top 20 overtakes, it'd be impossible to leave out NASCAR. With the type of action the stock car racing provides, there been have been some truly amazing passes over the years.

Take the 2003 Darlington race for example where Kurt Busch and Ricky Craven battled it out door to door during the final laps. The cars were banging against each other as they crossed the finish line, with Craven taking the win by mere inches.

It may not have been a dominant overtake, or even a great one - but it shows just how exciting a NASCAR finish can get.

If you're a motor sports junkie like we are, then you would've enjoyed the past weekend which was full of racing madness. Case in point is this video from the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Former F1 World Champion (and Indy 500 winner) Jacques Villeneuve caused a crash on the restart, which sparked plenty of post-race anger from his fellow drivers.

For those of you who missed the racing action, here's a selection of videos showing some of the crazy incidents that occured. Bobby Regester had a spectacular crash at Pikes Peak, flying off the side of the mountain. Video here.

At 24H Nurburgring, the sister car to the TNFS BMW Z4 had a massive accident after colliding with a back marker. Video here.

Meanwhile the #206 BMW grinded the rail. Video here.

The #29 Audi R8 LMS GT3 also went off at high speed. Video here.

Will Power had a hard hit at Iowa in the IZOD Indycar series. Video here.

GP2 is one of my favourite racing series', although this year there have been plenty of first lap indicidents. Valencia was no different! Video here.

And probably the most frightening incident occured in the Rolex Grand Am, when Gunter Schaldach experienced brake failure at the end of the Road America straight. Video here.

Earlier today, Mobil 1 arranged for F1 driver Lewis Hamilton to switch seats with NASCAR legend Tony Stewart. The stunt occured at Watkins Glen, with both champions getting behind the wheel of the other's race car. First up, Lewis piloted Stewart's NASCAR...

...And after a few attempts at getting the F1 car off the line (which wasn't televised), it was Tony Stewart's turn to experience what Formula 1 is like. You can check out their reactions here.

Over the weekend, Carl Edwards won the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, netting him a cool million bucks in prizemoney. However, things didn't go exactly to plan when he tried to do some victory burnouts on the infield grass. Skip to 1:55 in the video and see for yourself.

Coming off my NASCAR post, I thought this would be a perfect time to post a quick spotlight of a car I came across at the Mopar Spring Fling show in Van Nuys. From across the grass the shape of this '69 Dodge Charger Daytona was unmistakable, and I quickly found myself heading right toward this piece of Mopar history....

NASCAR. The word alone is one of the most divisive terms in the automotive world. Some folks can't get enough of it, while others hate everything about it. Few, if any of us on the Speedhunters staff consider ourselves to be hard core NASCAR fans, yet we all agreed that visiting a NASCAR race in person was a must-have addition to our Things to Do Before You Die list. ...

How many of you guys follow NASCAR? Not a whole lot I would imagine. It might not be the hippest thing to say, but I try to tune in whenever I can. If you happened to watch the 2011 Daytona 500 last Sunday, then you know that it was one hell of a race....

Before all of you start getting red in the face, I'd like you all to take a second take a few slow breaths, calm down and relax. Your regularly scheduled speedhunting has not been bought out, taken over and been renamed to oval-hunters or left-turn-hunters . This is just a look at something that we normally would never cover or have the opportunity to cover. The guys at Mobil 1 approached us with the rare opportunity with an inside look into the world of NASCAR. So, let it be known that I am...

A week in racing, as well as politics, is a very long time. From the frozen wastes of the Var and Le Castellet, I am now pitched into the very agreeable surroundings of the Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island for the 15th edition of the Concours d'Elegance. The show is actually tomorrow but keen as mustard me, I ventured onto the Golf Course to see what is in store when the Sun rises in the morning. Straight out of the Weissach version of Rowan & Martin's Laugh In was the Martini Racing Porsche...

I know this is a bit out of the "norm" for the Speedhunters site, but I thought it was too cool not to share! Some friends of mine over at Motorsports Management International - my management firm - have been building an over the top ¼-scale replica of the first NASCAR championship car from 1948. The team name, Parks Novelty Machine, is named after the original car owner, Raymond Parks, and the sponsor of this 1939 Ford V-8 modified stock car. They started with some foam! After multiple...

Was browsing Ziptied this morning when I found this incredible video clip from this weekend's NASCAR race in Las Vegas. Not only does driver Jamie McMurray avoid a crash with a long drift on the bank, but Formula D driver and Speedhunter Vaughn Gittin Jr. was even mentioned by the announcers on TV during their commentary.

Even if you don't like NASCAR, the video is pretty awesome to watch!
