For some of the international Speedhunters' audience, Drag racing is one of those polarizing motorsports where you either love it to death, or you just don't get it. Personally, I think life is too short to hate on any form of motorsport. It's just one of those things you have to experience as a car nut before you become worm food. NHRA Winter Nationals is the first event out of the 23 round Full Throttle Drag Racing Series. It's being held this weekend at Autoclub Speedway in Pomona...

It's time for more nitro, more wheel stands, more burnouts, and more of everything that's great about nostalgia drag racing. Here's the second part of my coverage from the 2011 California Hot Rod Reunion....

I've spent a lot of time this month shooting Hot Rods, customs, and drag cars. First it was the Motorama in Long Beach, then the drags up at Eagle Field. After a break last weekend at the Rennsport Reunion it was back to the dragstrip once more. This time the setting was Famoso Raceway near Bakersfield for the annual NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion. ...

With so many distractions in the present day, many of us are hard pressed to find time to actually sit down and let the brain breathe a little and relax. Yet, when those moments do happen, it's when you least expect it. It's always those quiet moments which gives us time to reflect on whatever our minds choose to reflect on. Some think about their childhood, others think about that amazing meal they had just a few days ago, or others, which have race gas pumping throughout their veins, think...

I'm currently sitting in the airport waiting for my flight to Dubai, so I thought I'd quickly write up this set of photos from a recent outing to the NHRA Museum in Pomona, California. While in LA last month for the Mooneyes Xmas Party, I arranged to visit the museum with legendary car builder Ron Bergenholtz. ...

It was the Winter Nationals at Pomona California in 1974. We were down to the last round of qualifying, with no success of making the field yet because I’d had ignition problems all weekend. But when I warming up the car in the pits, it sounded so sharp. I knew I’d found the problem. But little did I know I was about to take the “E ticket” ride of my life on the next run....

Over the past couple days we've been hard at work prepping our special driver blogs from Irwindale, but for a moment let's jump back into some coverage of the 18th Annual California Hot Rod Reunion held last weekend at Famoso Raceway. In this opening shot you can see two more examples of altered drag cars, including the blown AA/FA class "Outcast 1" - complete with period correct (and mega pricey) mag wheels....

No less than 12 hours after the tire smoke had cleared at Irwindale Speedway, I was on my way over the Grapevine to Famoso Raceway, located just north of Bakersfield. The reason? To check out the 18th Annual NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion. Rod and David Lister shot this event last year, and after seeing their photos I was excited to witness the nostalgic action for myself, even after the exhaustion of shooting for three-straight days at Irwindale....

I've been reading about the legendary Bergenholtz brothers in magazines since something like 1996 or 1997. Do the math... that was over 10 years ago! When I think about those days, which some consider to be "the glory days" of import drag racing and car shows in the USA, it trips me out. I can't believe it was so long ago; 10 years sounds like such a long period of time. Then again, 10 years isn't that long, when you put it in context with the grand scheme of motorsports in...
