You remember our Gatebil '11 coverage right? Even a couple of months after the fact, trying to comprehend the event is still difficult. I don't think any amount of words and photographs can precisely portray what happened at Rudskogen in July. This video by Neffi Steffan Kristensen does come close though, in accurately capturing the mayhem as it unfolded. Gatebil 2012 will be upon us sooner than we realise, will you be making the pilgrimage?

Sometimes the hardest part about writing is knowing that you can never fully put into words just how incredible something is. This is certainly the case, as I try to sum up (in a single post) the 3 days I spent in the "land of the midnight sun," submerged in a plethora of cars, boos, girls and shameless FUN. When asked to describe Gatebil, what comes to mind is a mutant spawn of HIN and Formula Drift, at Woodstock. If you google Gatebil Rudskogen, surely you'll find plenty of facts...

Where yesterday's KRB Audi was the reincarnation of the amazing Group B era, I'd imagine the TS Racing Audi A3 is maybe a better representation of what Group B would look like in modern times. Built by TS Racing from Oslo in Norway, the A3 was built to compete in the extreme class at the Gatebil events. A tubed front end and lots of carbon body work has helped the relatively meaty standard car to drop to around 1100KGs in weight. A 2.5 litre, five cylinder turbo charged Audi motor provides...

This car is arguably one of the most iconic cars from Scandinavia and probably one the most recognisable cars from the Gatebil events. Before travelling to Norway for the Gatebil Rudskogen event, this was the one car I lusted over and prayed to the automotive Gods that it would be present. I'll tell you this - if you think it looks insane in photos, you should try standing beside this beast. Some say that the car was built as a tribute of sorts to the legendary Group B Audi S1 but in my opinion...

When walking through the extreme paddock at Gatebil on the first night of our visit, I walked straight past this R34 Skyline (not before grabbing a quick wide shot) thinking that it was maybe just another R34 track car. I mean we've all seen them before right ? Thanks to one of our readers who insisted I take a closer look in the comments from one of the first posts from our Gatebil adventure, I think this probably the greatest R34 Skyline I've ever had the honour of witnessing in action...

Hey everyone! I'm Miki... bringing you exclusive coverage from the first stop in the Need for Speed Euro Spokesmodel Search . Following the recent announcement of the search for two spokesmodels to represent Team NFS in Europe, I was invited to tag along with Speedhunters as a special guest judge for the first round, in Norway. In addition to serving as a judge for the model search, I also extended my role as DJ to set a familiar vibe at debut the NFS Electro Lounge on European soil. When I wasn't...

We've already taken a look at just some of the cars that took to the track for the purposes of speed. This post however will look at those who strived to get a little bit sideways. I mentioned in my opening post from Gatebil that I have become slightly disillusioned with drifting in recent times but I've got to say, Gatebil has restored my faith in this style of driving. Notice I don't call it a sport because after Gatebil I've become aware that drifting isn't meant to be about...

It's been a long few days trying to recover from the madness at Rudskogen. Personally, I always found the 24HR Nürburgring to be heads and shoulders above any other event on my calendar for its atmosphere and overall experience. So when you arrive at Rudskogen and you know within ten minutes that this place is going to make the N24 look tame, its pretty hard not to get excited. I'm going to break up my coverage into three separate pieces looking at three different aspects of the Gatebil...

On this rare occasion, Jarod DeAnda, the voice of Formula Drift is at an event but he is not announcing. Instead he gets to enjoy and absorb as much Norwegian car culture as he can take. I follow him for a day and watch him interact with the Vikings of Gatebil. Jarod: You think you know what Norway is like, Vikings, beer, now drift machines but you have NO IDEA... Seriously, it does rain but not much. I'm having a blast and just think Saturday is the MAIN DAY! Jarod: When in Norway do as the...

Tonight it's my turn to showcase some Gatebil action and I'm a little speechless to be honest. I came to Norway, knowing the event was fairly big in scale; with crowds of 45,000 expected over the course of the three day festival. But what I'm experiencing at Gatebil is an escalation in scope past anything I've been to previously. The only thing I could say to you is that Gatebil is something like a mix of all the best bits of Speedhunters stuck together in one place. It's like...

Gatebil - a name within our culture synonymous automotive insanity. I think insanity along with incomprehensible are probably the only two words that come close to describing the events which continue to unfold around us. I'm sure most of you have seen the videos or maybe have seen photographs from previous years but I can promise you that nothing has prepared any of us for the Gatebil experience. The Gatebil events have been running since 1993 - when a group of enthusiasts got together and hired...

Along with the winter speedhunting photos that a few readers sent in, Åsmund Hope, sent this video of a winter track day on a frozen lake in Norway. Åsmund mentioned that these trackdays are quite common in the colder parts of Scandinavia during the winter. What I find most interesting about this video is the variety of cars that are participating in the wintery hoonfest.

No wonder Fredric Aasbo became so good at the art of hooning....

Here's another video with not just the drifting side of the 2010 Gatebil festival but showcasing time attack, drag racing and all other bits of excessive hooning. This event just looks like like an epically great time.

While Norwegian driver Fredric Aasbo, was ripping it up last weekend at Evergreen Speedway - his countrymen were having some fun of their own at the Gatebil Festival. Our buddy Egil sent us a few pictures from this crazy event at the Rudskogen Motorsenter in Norway....

Norweigan drifter Fredric Aasbo became a bit of sensation when he nearly got a podium finish at FD Long Beach in April. During his break from the East Coast FD events, he's been quite active back in Norway. Here's a few shots of him and his Supra ripping it up at one of Norway's Gatebil events....

This S13 has been around on the Driftworks forum for some time now but it recently underwent a transformation to what you see in the picture above. Its not often that I'll stop and stare at a car but thats exactly what I did with Rolv Anders Jacobsen's RPS13 drift machine. Its a truely stunning machine. Check out his project thread over at the Driftworks forum. Driftworks project thread Bryn Alban

I'm back again from another Powerdrift event with some more pictures and action! And boy, it was a great ending for Powerdrift 2009. It started Saturday with a 3 hour trip up to the track. 'Vålerbanen' is a huge facility with 4 courses and the newest addition is a pretty special track designed and built for drifting. It has two good S curves, two good long swooping corners and a little something to make things the extra bit interesting for both the audience and drivers......

I was browsing through some Flickr accounts and came across this BMW that was shot by Egil A. from Norway. I made a test drive myself last week with a E30, unfortunately the engine was shot so I didn't buy the car... But when I do eventually purchase a E30. I hope mine will look as good as this one! -Jeroen Willemsen Egil Flickr's photostream

It seems like Stephane from the Clash Production has been out filming in Scandinavia recently... I'm sure you'll recognize some of the cars from the Speedhunters coverage we've been giving to the crazy automotive scenes in this part of the world.... I'm a little perplexed by the music, but the imagery is some of the best that Clash have done in recent times IMO.

Nice work Stephane!
