This is going to be a busy few days on Speedhunters.com. John Brooks is already in Birmingham, UK getting set for the Autosport show, Dino is gearing up for the Tokyo Auto Salon and a group of us have converged on Dubai to film and photograph the Dubai 24 hour race. Some of you will remember last year we had a Porsche entered in the race which took fifth overall. We're back with the car again this year, and this time we'll be will be producing a film of our experiences at the event. Arriving...

This weekend was a busy one for the Japanese D1GP series with a two day "double-final" event at Ebisu Circuit. Normally Dino would be out there shooting for you guys, but since he's in Italy at the moment we'll have to improvise. Here are some photos from the weekend's action at the temple of drift. ...

Was taking a look through Manabu "MAX" Ordio's official blog this afternoon when I found this cool photo of the JZS161 Aristo that he will be drifting this year. From what I can gather, this is the same car that he used in Formula D last year, with a few changes. There's some new graphics repping Orido's long time friends at the Nihon Automobile College, a set of Weds wheels, and the new Ridox aero kit that was seen on his blue street car at TAS this year. This shot was taken earlier in the week as the car was undergoing some last minute prep for this weekend's D1GP opener at Ebisu Circuit....

As you have been seeing with all of our Sebring coverage over the past few days, this past weekend was a big one for motorsport. While the ALMS season launched stateside, across the pacific the 2009 Super GT season also kicked off with a rain-soaked race at Okayama International Circuit. The big story last year in Super GT was of course the dominance of the GT-R in the GT500 class, and a lot of the diehard Nissan fans were anxious to see how the GT-R's would do in their second year of competition....

NOB Taniguchi and Manabu Orido have jobs that most of us would kill for - getting paid to drive some of the coolest race cars and tuner cars in the world. So what do they drive home after a long day at the track? For Taniguchi it's a plush Nissan Elgrand van with Vertex aero parts and Advan wheels, while Orido usually rolls in his JZS161 Aristo or blinged out Hummer H2. Last month I spotted both their vehicles in the paddock at Fuji Speedway and thought it would make a cool picture. And now a quick trivia question. Does anyone know what Tarzan Yamada's daily driver is? I think the answer will surprise you....

Manabu "Max" Orido has to be one of the most active pro drivers in the world. He competes in Super GT, Super Taikyu, Formula D, he judges for MSC, tests cars for magazines, and now he has announced that he is returning to the D1 Grand Prix after a three-year hiatus. I originally saw a post on Club4AG with a rumor of him coming back and then checked his official site to find that he is planning to compete in next weekend's D1 match at Autopolis in Kyushu. His car will be the 2JZ-powered Weds/Bandoh IS which if I am not mistaken is the same car pictured above at Tokyo Auto Salon 2008. The car is done a similar livery to the GT300 IS that Orido drives in Super GT. First it was NOB Taniguchi and now its his friend Orido who has returned to the D1 ranks. Should be quite interesting to see......

I'm concentrating on "D to D: Drift & Driving Entertainment Magazine" in this post. I've found that there is a great deal of technical depth in D to D. What would likely be a paragraph blurb on a new intercooler from Greddy/Trust becomes a 2 page spread with temperature graphs by RPM, etc. The very first thing I noticed about these JDM mags is that even though we in North America think we run a lot of advertising in our print media... We got NOTHIN on japan. With a car culture...

On the night I drove up to Las Vegas, I was watching the outside temperatures soar up to 118 degrees, and this was at around 10pm. At 4am that same night, it was still at 115 degrees. Super hot. Thankfully, it has cooled off just a bit, due to a thunderstorm which cooled off the track last night, and lightning that lit up the night sky like the LED and neon bulbs covering all the casinos on the Vegas Strip. While the weather may have cooled off just a bit, the action at Formula D's pre-event...

Well it's official. Former D1 star and current Super GT driver Manabu "Max" Orido will be be competing in the upcoming Formula D event at Las Vegas behind the wheel of the Project Mu/3T Motorsport/Yokohama Tire JZS161 Aristo. It's been a while since Orido has competed in pro drifting so it will be very interesting to see how he does against FD's finest during the much anticipated match at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on July 11-12......
