Race cars are, by very definition, built solely for performance. Race cars are creations with no compromise, no creature comforts. Their unwavering focus is on shaving every thousandth of a second. Most people are used to seeing race cars hurtling around a track, a sliver of colour that flashes by. Rarely, however, do you get to see them up close and personal. And, in my opinion at least, race cars are best appreciated when they're standing still. While race cars like the Team Need for Speed...

The last sportscar race of the 2010 season may have just finished in Argentina, but teams, drivers and partners have been busy working on the 2011 season for some time. Team Need for Speed is no exception. Following a great season where ‘Team Need for Speed by Schubert Motorsport’ finished third in the FiA GT3 Teams Championship, and we are happy to announce we’ll be competing in the 2011 Dunlop 24 hours of Dubai with the BMW Z4 GT3! As you may remember, we like to make each Team...

Congratulations to Team Need for Speed and Schubert Motorsport for claiming 3rd overall in the 2010 FIA GT3 Teams Championship! The final championship standings were only confirmed today, after the FIA International Court of Appeal reinstated round winner (and eventual champions) Prospeed Competition after earlier being disqualified. Well done Patrick, Edward, Claudia, Csaba and Schubert Motorsport, and the entire Team Need for Speed for such a great debut season! - Charles Kha Team Need for Speed

Hello! It's Will Roegge, Speedhunters filmmaker - with the latest speedhunters video project for your consumption. Over the summer, I posted a prompt and asked for your questions to Team Need for Speed: Matt Powers, Mad Mike Whiddett, Edward Sandstrom, and Patrick Soderlund. After going through your questions and selected a few to ask to the drivers. Combine that with unseen footage from FIA GT3 in Algarve, Portugal and Team Need for Speed - Drift at East Coast Bash and Formula Drift. Fresh out...

As I sit in a petrol station-come-hotel in northern Spain the day before the next FIA GT1 round, finally I've been able to finish off this race report post wrapping up the last two races of the 2010 European GT3 Championship from Zolder in Belgium. It was a weekend that showed off the best of GT3, with close racing and action a-plenty. With the Drivers' Title already in the hands of the Keilwitz/Hohenadel #101 Callaway Corvette, it was down to the Prospeed Porsche team to try and wrest the...

This has got be be the meatiest interview we've done yet. Pour yourself a drink, sit down, and enjoy this fantastic conversation between pro drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr.and Patrick Soderlund, the EA executive and co-driver of the Team NFS BMW Z4. This conversation happened back in the spring when Vaughn traveled to the UK to get his first taste of FIA GT racing....

First practice has just concluded here at Paul Ricard. Last time I checked, the temperature was 32.5 Celcius and it feels every degree. Practice was largely uneventful for the GT3 class aside from the odd spin. Patrick navigated the car to seventh fastest during the session and a mere 1.3 seconds off the fastest time. We'll keep you updated as the day goes on and bring you a more comprehensive post at the end of each day. Paddy

Hi everybody! Welcome to my second blog. This time from Jarama and the third round of FIA GT3. We had a new engine in the BMW Z4 GT3 and high expectations. Everything looked good for the weekend. I had been testing at Aragon Motorland during the week trying to improve the setup, especially the damper settings after some testing on a shake rig which had given us new ideas. But the biggest improvement was for sure the 4.4-litre engine. The Aragon track is new and has a quite impressive layout. It's...

This weekend is FIA GT3 at Paul Ricard and next weekend is Formula Drift Seattle. Two weekends of speedhunting and events with team Need For Speed drivers: Patrick Soderlund, Edward Sandstrom, Mad Mike Whiddett, and Matt Powers. We will be fliming and want to use your questions for the interviews. Ever wonder what its like to be behind the wheel of a BMW Z4 GT3 or ride the wall at Seattle? Post your question in the comments and we'll ask Team Need For Speed. Your question might end up being in...

Or more accurately, playing in the sand and gravel. There are only two hours to go until qualifying for the third round of the European GT3 championship at the Jarama circuit in central Spain. After a great first Free Practice where they posted the eighth fastest time, lead driver Edward Sandstrom in the #76 Team Need For Speed BMW Z4 Coupé attacked the fast downhill Bugatti section too hard, spun and hit the barriers. Now the team are working flat-out to repair the damage and get the car...

Hi, I’m Edward Sandstrom from Sweden, competing in the European GT3 Championship alongside Patrick Soderlund in the Team Need For Speed BMW Z4 Coupé. My career started at an early age with karting – after that I switched to cars and since 1999 I have been driving in many different racing series. Before FIA GT3 I have spent 3 years in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and was the series champion in 2007. Soon it would be time to put the helmet on and find some rhythm out on the...

This is the first Team Need For Speed film for 2010. It highlights Patrick Soderlund and the Team Need For Speed FIA GT3 team at the first races of the 2010 GT3 season - Silverstone. We were all eager for the first races on the new Silverstone configuration and first laps of the new BMW Z4 GT3 in competition. Personally, I was excited to shoot under the cloudy skies of the English countryside and witness my second FIA GT race. When we arrived at Silverstone, Linhbergh and I set straight away to shooting...

Hi everyone, I'm just getting around to writing this as it's been so crazy since it all happened ! I flew into Frankfurt on the Wednesday with the race starting on Saturday, so it's a couple of days before the race starts. I come up to Brunnchen which is the way you arrive from Frankfurt Airport. Brunnchen is one of the bigger spectator areas and when I arrive I can't see anything but tents ! Literally nothing but a sea of tents and drunk spectators ! It was nuts ! I called Edward...

Hi guys, Patrick Soderlund here. For those of you who aren’t aware, in my professional career I am actually an executive at Electronic Arts. I oversee everything related to driving and in particular to the Need for Speed franchise. I have an amazing organization of game development studios that I oversee who build the various Need for Speed titles. What one of my sort of passions or dreams is, is for the brand to be and feel like it has a broader meaning than maybe it has had in the past. If...

It is is quite unusual, as a designer, to be allowed to show the design process and show the designs which didn't make it, but thanks to Speedhunters, I'm able to share some of the behind the scenes work on the Team Need for Speed livery design. I started sketching some ideas for the Team Need for Speed livery on the last day of 2009. Rod and Patrick had introduced me to the Team Need for Speed concept and it was my task to create a livery which would work in multiple arenas. Not an easy...

"Patrick Soderlund would like to meet with you at 18:00" ... This was a message that one of the executive assistants emailed me this past November. The EA executive Patrick Soderlund was visiting our Vancouver game studio to help structure the re-organization of the Need for Speed gaming franchise and wanted to see me. The reason? He had a crazy idea for a racing program: "Team Need for Speed" that he wanted to run past me. We threw around a few ideas and decided that Team Need...

I love challenges. Where there is doubt, I find inspiration. This past January, we traveled to UAE to film a team driving a car for 24 hours straight, in a field of 75 plus cars, in the desert, in the grandest city in the world - Dubai. Having never filmed an endurance race, I was looking forward to the challenges presented by the event. The Audi documentary Truth in 24 had just beaten my short film Climb Attack for an award, so it was time to see if I could hang with the competition. At the Dubai...

Hello Speedhunters! My name is Patrick Soderlund and I recently trekked out to the UAE to race in the Dubai 24Hs. We finished the race last year in fifth and came to the event with the goal of a podium finish. The competition for the 2010 edition of the race was tougher than last year, so we knew only a trouble free run would get us this result....
