I know Photography Month has come and gone but I just couldn't not share these images by Andrew Thompson. The car is infact the photographer's own Lotus Exige. Andrew sent me a superb collection of images but for me, these abstract and silhouette shots are just fantastic. Without fully showing you the car, you can still appreciate it's shape and essence. It's a relatively standard example of a great car. This is the 2006 model, which weighs in at 2,000lbs (907KGs) and with 190BHP...

Some of you may remember during photography month we ran a guest blog from George Williams , a 17 year old photographer from the United Kingdom. George was recently in touch with me again to share his latest shoot, the first RHD 458 in the UK. It's pretty rare around these parts that we'll run a photo roll on a relatively standard production car, but I think we can make an exception for this rather fine specimen of Italian design. The 458 Italia is the replacement for the rather beautiful...

This simply awe-inspiring set of photographs by French photographer Laurent Nivalle was pointed out to us by Speedhunters reader Sang Park . Aren't we glad you came across these Mr. Park ! The images are from this years 2010 Le Mans Classic which took place at Le Sarthe early last month. Shot primarily on a full frame Canon 5D MKII with the superb 85mm F1.2 L lens, Laurent has used this perfect pairing of camera and lens to almost take us back in time. For a change I'm not going to harp on...

All machinery, especially moving parts, have a finite life. Actually we all do but mortality, for most of us, is something that happens to the other guys. So here I am at Spa Francorchamps, shooting one of the practice sessions for the FIA GT1 World Championship round that will be run on Saturday. Just getting a few shots in the bag, testing the limits of skill and equipment, all running to plan. Then I notice something weird in the screen when checking exposure on the histogram, maybe the lens strap...

When shooting motorsport events, it's hard to ignore the huddled mass of photographers that are standing around the same spot, all looking to get the same shot, without being sucked in yourself. I'll admit that I've fallen prey to such temptations before. The thought of "there has to be a reason they're all there..." rings loudly in your mind as you start gravitating towards the photographic mass. It takes someone with a very hungry spirit to fire their retro-rockets, blast...

Photography Month is almost over so here is a Photo Roll of one the photographers I chose to share with you guys. Oliver Verheij is one of the contributors at Performance VW and the driving force behind VW Fanatics . I'll let him do the talking ! OV: This shot was taken during the Wörthersee event at one of the gas stations in Velden. It was fairly crowded and there wasn't a place to park the car so Ron Huijzer parked his MK1 Golf in the washing box. It was pitch black so I placed my...

Here at SpeedHunters we are in the final stages of Photography Month. There have been many fine posts with great images but it hit me when preparing my previous piece about the Suttons that something was missing. In all the talk of gear and technique, laced with healthy doses of self promotion, the real magic, the real purpose of photography was being ignored. The great Henri Cartier-Bresson expressed this quality in far more eloquent terms that I ever could. " We photographers deal in things...

Those of you who follow motor sport and Grand Prix in particular will be only too aware of the high level of talent and commitment that runs throughout the whole paddock. Hard work and brains are the basic qualifications. From the Gladiators who wrap themselves in Nomex and steer the beasts, to those who perform mental gymnastics to create and run the machines, all are at the top of their professions. So too are the hardy band of photographers who, since F1 started the modern era back in 1950, have...

Easton Chang is probably one of the most reknowned automotive photographers on the planet. From his humble beginnings of that DC2 Type R rev counter image to his latest commercial shoot for Jaguar, the Australian snapper has influenced so many of us. Speaking for myself, Easton has been one of my idols for as long as I can remember. Looking through his portfolio is an eye opening experience. There are only a handful of automotive photographers on this earth that can boast a portfolio as strong as...

Trying to stay new and fresh is a not-so-unique problem to creative professionals. Everyone who is in any creative position hits a creative block and must turn to somewhere for motivation and inspiration. Richard Morris is someone whom I turn to on a regular basis. Richard's sense of theatrics, emotion, use of color and how he plays with light is, in my eyes, second to very few....

Stumbled upon Laurents site recently and wanted to share some of his photography. Very artistic portrayal of the automobile. I love the variety used to shoot the cars, and how much personality and story comes from each of the shots. Lots of really interesting compositions. Check out the rest of Laurent's work at his website . - Carl Jarrett

On July 16th to 18th I'll be heading to Mission Raceway to cover the Vintage Races held by the Vintage Racing Club of BC. I haven't been to any of the local vintage events before but by the looks of it, there are some pretty cool cars that come out from all over BC, Washington, Oregon, and possibly further. If you're anything like me, and dig the vintage cars as well, you definitely don't want to miss this event. Mission offers a great opportunity to get really close to the cars that...

All eyes have been on the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada these past 2 weeks, so it's only fitting that we showcase a little piece of the west coast scene by highlighting some cool local S13s. These cars may look a bit rough around the edges but they do have oodles of style. I get the feeling these cars, there are just build to drift so they don't have to look like showqueens. The white S13 has had quite a history as it was vandalized last year. Some people spray painted the car and...

A few days back I was browsing through the auto blogs I visit daily and found a link to the Mattfresh Blog from New Zealand. It became an instant favorite and has given me many new wallpapers to stare at. Recently Matt went to a drift event at the Hampton Downs circuit. Some familiar faces showed up and Matt covered the event in his own cool way. The opening shot contains so much win. Broken aero parts, worn tires, numerous sets of wheels and a cool AE85 in the background that's been dropped...

The other day we got an email from a fellow by the name of Jeffery Sitthi - a photographer and BMW enthusiast based in the Pacific Northwest. Jeffery linked to us to his library of images documenting the Northwest BMW scene, with a particularly strong showing by members of the E90Post community. As part of our overview of BMW culture around the world, we thought you'd like to see some of Jeffery's BMW shots from the beautiful PNW....

What were you doing when you were 16? I, like most Americans was enjoying the newly found freedom of a driver's license, carting my buddies to and from school and driving around for no apparent reason. The last thing on my mind at that time was photography. In fact, I cringe when I look back at pictures I took during those days with whatever crappy digital camera I was using. The case is quite a bit different for Casey John Dhnaram, a 16-year old fellow from Brisbane Australia. Casey has been shooting for four years now, and not surprisingly drifting is one of his favorite subjects to shoot....

I have a theory I'd like to run past you lot.... please bear with me, as I'm working out my thoughts as I write this... it's a bit of an experimental premise and needs some feedback from you. Here's the thought: The Honda Civic and the Volkswagen Golf have had somewhat parallel histories and comparable positions within certain factions of car mod culture. Both started out life as small FF cars, in 1972 and 1974 respectively, and each developed some big followings over the years in...

What's one of the fastest growing forms of motorsport around the world? What automotive competitions are seeing new builds, drivers and projects year in and year out? Although we don't have any empirical data to justify factual answers to these questions, there is no doubt in my mind that Drifting is a big new wave of energy in motorsports, especially on the grass roots side of things. I know some of you guys aren't really into the subjective side of the sport, but you would have to agree...

I thought I would continue with the coverage from Tsukuba while Mike is busy covering the Tokyo Auto Salon, nah just kidding. But I did found these pictures al taken at a recent trackday on Tsukuba. Because it is Mazda month I selected all the RX7's that were present to show off the different styles that people use on their car. All the pictures were taken on the TC2000 course at Tsukuba during a track day organized by BE-Circuit . Russ from RE-Extreme pointed me in the right direction with his...
