I saw some of you guys commenting on Dino's feature of the ‘Natty Dread' Porsche regarding the Sunburst 993. So I dug up this shot of the Sunburst demo car doing some laps around Tsukuba. The orange color scheme really sets it off but it doesn't make it look as menacing as the Rauh Welt build car. The offset on the other hand does work wonders, especially considering the massive fenders. -Jeroen Willemsen

We are all great admirers of Nakai-san and Rauh Welt here at Speedhunters. The cars that have rolled out of this small countryside body-shop in Chiba-ken have pretty much all assumed cult status. Nakai's creations are all about raw style, a vision into what he thinks a Porsche should look, sound and even smell like! There are no compromises here, the cars that bare the Rauh Welt touch have been built for one simple thing, driving. I though it would be cool to take a nice and detailed look into...

This fresh looking Golf MK4 was spotted at the recent Westside Show in the UK. You see a lot of rims that come from higher end cars ending up on cars in the VW community. This time the owner of this Golf got himself a set of wheels from the Porsche Turbo. It just shows that a design that has been made exclusively for a Porsche also works wonders on other cars. -Jeroen Willemsen Picture taken from Tej's flickr stream

This low-riding Porsche 914-6 belongs to Speedhunters.com reader Martin, who sent me this stunning shot of his car. It sounds like quite a beast fitted with a close to 300 HP 3.5L flat-6, replacing the stock 110 HP 2L. On top of all the mechanical modifications, which also include 930 brakes and GT stiffening suspension plates, Martin also fitted the steel GT fender flares and had the rear ones further widened by 1-inch. The car rides on the stock 15-inch Fuchs wheels that sit neatly inside the arches...

There's something about crisp fall weather that makes me fantasize (more than usual) about spending some time with a classic sports car and a curvy backroad.
It didn't help when I went to a car show on Sunday morning at the South Coast Botanical Garden in Rolling Hills and saw these two early Porsche 911's parked neatly in the lot.
Now if we could just find one these for a Speedhunters project car...

Now for my third installment I will be looking at some of the other cars that were present. The first car we have is the green E36 Wagon in the opening picture. It had a solid setup with its green color and flush Racing Dynamics wheels. I kept coming back to this car, and couldn't resist taking lots of pictures of it, maybe I can turn it into a car spotlight, anybody interested? Next week I will have another E36 wagon for you guys. It's a very famous car in Europe and it is used for drifting...

I made so many pictures last Thursday, so I wasn't sure how I wanted to start this second post. I could do a separate BMW post or a Porsche post, but I decided to mix it up a bit. So there's something for everyone. In the opening shot you see the parking lot that's left of the entrance. On days like this you can walk around and chat to the owners or just check the awesome machinery that is present. The first car that caught my eye in this picture was the BMW M6 on the foreground. I'm...

I'm back home in LA now after a long road trip, watching dark rain clouds fill the sky. Rain in Southern California? Does such a thing exist?
Anyways, we have a busy week ahead of us as we gear up for the Formula D finale in Irwindale, but before that we have more action from the Monterey Sports Car Championships at Laguna Seca. If you had the chance to watch the ALMS race on SPEED TV, then you know how crazy things got at Laguna Seca over the weekend!...

It has been a while since I saw a good picture of a Rauh Welt build car. This ‘Natty Dread' 911 looks spot on. It is seen here doing a hotlap around the Tsukuba circuit (I do miss the coverage that Mike always did). I didn't noticed before that the small rear windows are actually removed and replaced by airducts, you can even see the tubes leading to the engine. Another thing I didn't noticed before is the front skirt, it looks it is just bolted in place for easy replacement. -Jeroen...

In a very short period of time the motor race known as Petit Le Mans has acquired “Classic” status. It is now regarded in the same league as its yahoo, elder cousin, the Sebring 12 Hours. Some of this status is because of the association with the Le Mans 24 Hours and some of the status is due to the challenging Road Atlanta track. It is popular with teams, drivers, fans, even photographers, all of whom enjoy the undulations and sheer flat out speed of the place. Generally a pretty good...

Workload has resulted in a lack of ALMS updates from me for most of the season, but it is now time to bring you up to date, in preparation for 'Petit Le Mans' later this month. At the front, the series suffered from the withdrawal from Audi and their R15 TDi after Sebring 12hours. The economic climate also resulted in Audi pulling out of the European Le Mans Series. A decision that Audi probably has since regretted, as lack of running and development cost them victory in the 2009 Le Mans...

Back in the glory days of the Roman Empire, the alignment of the planets was considered to be critical to planning any major event. When the planets got together in line then the outlook was generally considered bleak, ask Julius Caesar, he was assassinated on the Ides of March, 44BC by a gang of friends and admirers when they thought that the position of Mars made him especially weak. However sometimes the alignment is benign especially when combined with the law of unintended consequences. Back...

For the past few days, I've been thinking about exactly what the term "Exotic Car" really means. First of all, it should be made of unobtainium -- that is, an exotic should be ultra exclusive and rare. Sightings of these cars should be few and far between. Secondly, they should shatter barriers of performance and technology. There should be kit on these super-expensive cars which has never been seen before and may take years or even decades to filter down to normal, everyday cars. And...

For my next post from the Idlers Games at Tsukuba Circuit, I thought I'd take a break from the on-course action and share some of the images I shot while exploring the paddock. With all of the cars on hand, one could easily spend the whole day wandering about, taking in the fantastic machinery up close....

Ok let's jump straight in and look at the dramas from further down the field at the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours. Behind the diesel class, here was another prototype race going on, that of those powered by petrol. Although a factory effort in name, the Lola Aston Martin team is closer in resource terms to the best of the privateers. A titanic battle ensued between the two quick AMR cars, the ORECA's, the Pescarolo and the Speedy Lola. This was resolved in the 007 Lola Aston's favour which had...

I still haven't even had a chance to sort through all the pictures I took at the Idlers Games at Tsukuba on Sunday. Unfortunatley for my hardworking little laptop, I managed to come home with nearly 2000 photos from the event.
Perhaps I got a bit trigger happy with the camera as I was overwhelmed with awesome cars and great driving?
Anyways, lets jump right into some more Idlers coverage....

When I was living in Japan, Tsukuba Circuit became a bit of a second home for me. It was close by, and featured some of the best car action in the world - paradise for a car crazed dude like myself. Of all the events I've been to at Tsukuba, few have left a bigger impression on me than the Idlers Club races. Idlers is where the internet legend of the Rauh Welt was born and is where you'll find the very best in Japanese automotive culture. When I found out there was going to be an Idlers event during my visit to Japan this month, it was tough to hold back the excitement....

Anniversaries are tricky things, looking back tends to fade the negative and accentuate the positive. Nostalgia for a safe past rather than the uncertain present or unknown future. But the years do rattle past quickly so some form of marker post is necessary if only to give focus to the things to come. Back in 1984 I never imagined that I would be still be following the circus some 25 years later. Although in my twenties I still had no clue as to what the future would bring, I was between careers...

So...are Porsches considered exotics? How about RAUH Welt-tuned Porches? On Monday I'm heading back to Japan for a couple weeks and the Idlers Club race at Tsukuba is one of the things on my to-do list - exotic or not. I can't wait! -Mike Garrett
