When the first Pro Touring cars hit the scene in the 1990s, the idea was simple. Take the timeless style of a vintage Muscle Car and make it perform like a modern machine. Not only was a Pro Touring car built to be an all around performer, it was also built to eat up miles without breaking a sweat - whether it was a long interstate run or a backroad romp. At some point though, Pro Touring cars may have jumped the shark....

It has become a tradition of mine at SEMA to seek out the BASF stand and the latest Ringbrothers creation. In recent years, the Ring Brothers have managed to create some unique muscle car builds. This year was no exception. This 1970 Chevrolet Camaro 'Diversion' was one of the stars of the show and was faultless. Mike and Jim Ring, based out of Wisconsin, started rebuilding cars as kids. They have earned themselves a reputation in first class builds and often include their signature custom...

I've noticed a resurgence in 70s Chevrolet Camaros at recent SEMA Shows, and this year's event was no exception. One example was this clean 1972 Camaro that has been owned by the same family since the late 70s. Jerry Fernandez Sr has owned this Camaro since the last 70s. When he started a family, he decided to store it rather than sell it. A wise move as it turned out. Once his first son came of age, he took over the Camaro. Over the course of the last ten years, the Camaro has gone through...

With the coming of each SEMA Show, it seems that the Pro Touring builds get more and more extreme. This year one of the wildest Pro Touring cars at SEMA was the Innovator, a '67 Nova built by the Roadster Shop....

Those of you who are following the progress on the Team NFS Mustang RTR-X build may be interested to learn a bit more about the company that did up the custom front sub-frame for us: Art Morrison Enterprises . Any readers of Hot Rod magazine will of course recognize the Art Morrison name as being top dog in the aftermarket chassis industry for muscle cars and classics. Some of their aftermarket chassis are designed to bolt straight into popular body types like this 1954 Chevy. You then choose the...

By popular request, here's a quick gallery of photos from the Street Challenge Autocross at the Goodguys Orange County Get Together. As I found, it's damn fun watching hooked-up muscle machines do things usually reserved for vehicles like shifter karts and Miatas....

Once again I'm truly amazed at the global scope of this website. We have Rod & Dino bringing the latest from the WTA in Australia, Paddy, John and crew continuing with 24hrs of Nurburgring Coverage, and that's not even everything. As for me. I'm back with some more all-American action from the Goodguys Orange County Get Together....

What comes to mind when you think of a Good Guys Rod and Custom show? If you're like me, then it's probably images of people sitting in the sun next to polished, billet-laden street rods and not much else. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I headed to the Orange County Fairgrounds for the Fourth Annual Goodguys OC Get Together. While there were plenty of pastel-colored street rods with "do not touch" signs in the window, there was also lots of genuinely cool stuff to be found....

Hello Speedhunters! My name is Scott Murray, you may recognize my name from the story on my AWD sleeper mk2 GTI that was featured last year. This story however is not about me, nor is it about my car. It’s about my buddy Mark’s ’71 Camaro RS Z28. This project started about 4 years ago. The search for the donor car itself took the better part of two years. After missing out on several cars on Ebay, and checking out a few ‘rust free’ shells that turned out to be ‘metal...

Sometimes it's amazing what you can find in your own backyard. Or your old backyard I should say. A couple weeks ago I was visiting my family in the Fresno area when my brother told me about a car shop near his work that I should check out. So one rainy afternoon I packed up the camera and made a visit to Hedges Speed Shop....

Last year at the SEMA show, the Ring Brothers debuted their latest project - a '64 Ford Fairlane two-door sedan known as the Afterburner. The car would end up winning Ford's "Best of Show" award at SEMA, and every time I walked by, the Fairlane was literally swarmed with people. So much for getting any usable photos... So when I spotted the car at the Grand National Roadster Show sitting in the open, I figured I'd shoot a few pictures to make up for the lack of of this car in our SEMA coverage....

Hey Speedhunters, My name is Kevin Cederwall from Walnut Creek California. I’ve been working on cars and dreaming about having a nice one of my own since before I could even drive. I got extremely lucky though when the opportunity to pick up one of my relative's 68 Dodge Charger came along. This whole process started about 3-4 years ago at around the age of 16, when I picked the car up from his house not knowing what I was getting myself into. But I learned quickly and started with tinkering on the car, with mostly small projects. ...

A few of you wanted to see more of this "Rad Rides by Troy" build.... so here you are... it's the best video I could find of "Notorious".

Before you flame me for posting a poor quality video.... have a listen to the amazing sounds this incredible Nova makes.... Pretty meaty...

I just wish the camera operator would stop talking!

I first noticed this Chevolet Impala at SEMA 2007, where it was parked up in front of the Las Vega Convention Center. I took the opportunity, to take a pile of photos of the car, but at the time didn’t really have an outlet, other than my personal Facebook page. As you can imagine, I was very delighted to see the Impala on display at the Mother’s Wax booth at SEMA this year. Unfortunatley, there was no info board on display so I can’t tell you any details about the build or the...

Although we normally tend to focus a bit more on the car cultures surrounding Japanese and European autos here at Speedhunters, there are a few of us on the team who know our way around the world of Customs, Hot Rodding and Muscle cars. I suppose I'm one of those people, as I track American car culture (well what I consider to be the cool aspects of it) just as much as the European and Japanese based scenes. Perhaps it's the intoxicating sound of V8 American iron, or the fact that this scene...

Ok let's take a little break from our July drifting fixation and look at a very different type of modified car: the Killer Customs built 1966 Pro Touring style Chevy Nova. Those of you who have been around American cars for the past few decades will know that the big trend in hot rods and street machines for many years has been the Pro Street style. The aim was to take a street car and make it look and perform like a full drag race machine; capable of outrageous 1/4 mile times, but still vaguely street legal. This was the de-facto standard for many, many years in the muscle car world. This all changed though when the Pro Touring style emerged a few years ago. Suddenly people wanted to make their classic American cars handle, accelerate and brake like modern performance machines. They wanted the style of a classic car but with the advantages of 40 years of technological development. A new style was born....

What could be better than seeing a bunch of cool hot rods and pro touring muscle cars underneath the skyline of one of America's most historic cities? How about seeing a bunch of cool hot rods and muscle cars being thrashed on an autocross course at the same event? Speedhunters forum member MarlowLT12 was at the TRSCCA and Goodguys Car Show & Autocross in downtown Nashville, TN where he found some of the best hot rods and muscle cars that the south has to offer......
