Just came across this short video of Taniguchi drifting the BenSopra GT-R at Mobara Circuit. As many of you will know the car is based on what was supposed to become Nomuken's next Blitz D1 machine, a 1000 HP R35 that was converted to RWD and stripped of all electronic driver aids. Abe-san from Blitz was there to fine tune the Motec ECU before Nob took the car out for a little test. Unfortunately the engine suffered turbo problems and was pretty much running without any boost. Still, it's worth a look as it's not often you see R35s drifting through tight tracks like Mobara! Can't wait to see this car all fixed up and properly vaporizing those big rear Yokohamas!

I find it truly amazing to see how two people armed with little more than a 5d camera, a 50mm 1.2 lens and an Iphone4S can make such a smooth and stylish automotive film like this. Props to the Crank&Piston team for this little gem of a video!

Remember the spy photos we ran of appeared to be a GT3-spec R35 GT-R? Well that car, the Nssan GT-R GT3 jointly developed between NISMO and JR Motorsports, has just completed a 440km race distance over three hours. The JRM team used the fourth round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Magny-Cours in France to rack up mileage on the race car, where it finished 8th overall. So far, the NISMO GT-R GT3 has covered 1700km without any issues, making this a very successful debut. - Charles Kha Photos supplied...

The Slovakiaring's paddock was teeming with car-spotting opportunities over the weekend of the FIA GT3 races, with a packed supercar parking area adjacent to the pits plus the attractions at numerous displays around the track. And what a supercar display there was! Each GT round has been playing a game of who's-got-the-sauciest-cars – Silverstone's Lamborghini Aventador and Paul Ricard's Aston One-77 (and US muscle) for instance, but Slovakia provided that and more. The rarest...

We just recently posted a video clip of the AMS Alpha 12 R35 recording low nine second ET's at the dragstrip. Well the boys were back at it again and this time managed to break the eight second barrier, with an 8.975 at 169 miles per hour. Need proof? Watch the video.
It also has some nice shotgun-view angles of passenger reaction (mild language warning, but can you blame some going for a ride in an eight second street car?).

Did you guys watch this week's episode of Top Gear? If you did then you might know why I've fallen in love with the R35 GT-R again. To add more fuel to the fire, here's a new clip of the AMS Alpha 12 GT-R lighting up the dyno to the modest tune of 1300 wheel horsepower, followed by a drag strip session of consistent low nine second quarter mile passes. The best run of the day was an astonishing 9.05 ET at 166.66 miles per hour.
I'm not sure what else to say other than "wow".

I'm sure most of you are aware of our 'day in the life' series of stories where we follow an unsuspecting victim for a day and then relay back to you what it would be like to walk in this person's shoes for a day. For this particular story however, we're extremely fortunate for this person to talk us through their day in their own words. I'm rather quite excited by this for two reasons - we've never had the person of interest write this piece before and secondly, just...

Reader Luke Terbeeke sent us these photos he snapped of this rather impressive R35 GT-R. Heavily modified, this R35 has evolved into a carbon-clad circuit weapon, which Luke discovered circling Mallala Motor Sport Park in South Australia. Luke advised that the owner of this stunning GT-R is Sebastian Lip, who entrusted R35 specialists Willall Racing to build the vehicle. This particular R35 features a host of aftermarket components to improve the performance, handling and braking. Under the hood...

A Speedhunters reader, who wishes to stay anonymous, has just sent in these spy photos of what appears to be the FIA GT3 spec R35 GT-R. These photos were taken at a private test that was conducted at the Aragon Circuit in Spain. According to our reader, the GT3 specification GT-R - which is being jointly developed by NISMO and JRM - was testing alongside the GT1 cars and appeared to be very close in speed. Our reader confirmed that the the GT3 version had a markedly different engine note to the GT1...

This Auto Select R35 GT-R must be quite a regular sight on the Osaka kanjo . Sawa-san has spent a great deal of time blasting around the highways late at night fine-tuning the ECU settings of the shop's demo car and on my last visit there I couldn't pass up grabbing a few shots of the car, especially as it was running a very eye-catching white on white combination thanks to a set of 20-inch Volk Racing VR G2s. Sawa-san kindly brought the car around the back of the shop and I began to snap...

Remember the Agent Orange R35? Although it was AMS' most powerful Alpha 9 GT-R to date, apparently Agent Orange's new owner wasn't entirely satisfied. Although the R35 was making big power on race fuel, the owner set a new target: to become the highest horsepower pump gas R35 GT-R in the world. So Agent Orange went in for some surgery. The Alpha 10 turbo kit was installed, further boosting the power produced within the AMS 3.8l short block. Space is at a premium in the R35's engine...

Ahead of its official press release that will be coming out this week, we thought you guys might be interested in seeing this rather insane R35 build that is taking place in Australia. A collaboration between GT Auto Garage and HKS Australia , this R35 is being completely rebuilt from the ground up in readiness for the World Time Attack Challenge on 5-6 August. It'll be interesting to see how this new project fares against the top tier competitors that will be coming from Japan, the United States...

Drag racing, 0-300km/h runs, top speed trials, all on public roads. That's pretty much what the nineties were like in Japan. Back in those days it was all about power and speed, all achieved through extreme tuning and if you lived in or around Nagoya and wanted to turn your GT-R or Supra or anything else into a flame spitting wangan monster there is a good chance you sought the help of Morita-san at Street Special Garage Yawata. On my way back to Tokyo after the Exciting Car Showdown last month...

To say that the return of the GT-R to Japan's premier motorsport category was a major event would be a huge understatement. Despite earning massive success with its Fairlady Z in the years 2004 - 2007 (two titles plus two second places in the Teams' championship, plus one Driver's title), the anticipation surrounding the arrival of Nissan's latest weapon, the R35 GT-R was palpable. Before the season even got underway, the buzz about the car was like nothing before it. At the pre-season...

The AMS World Challenge GT-R build began with a brand new R35 GT-R delivered direct from the dealer. The odometer reading showing a grand total of 74 miles. Since weight reduction is an important factor to performance in the World Challenge GT Series, the vehicle was thrown on the scales to measure stock weight with all fluids and an empty fuel tank... 3908lbs....

The guys from Format67 have once again released a film, which is more of a stylized lifestyle piece than an actual film about a car. Though, there is car featured: a face-lifted 2012 Nissan GTR. This film was made to promote Nissan's upcoming iPad app, which shows the new GT-R in everyday life situations --be it a bit more glamorous....
This is the polar opposite of the Group B RX-7 video I posted; dramatic music, dramatic editing, and very little balls-to-the-walls driving. Some of you might like it, others, well, will not. I rather enjoyed this glamorized look into the life of a GTR owner.

When you think of the tuning shop Top Secret, you normally would think that its prized shop cars, like their gold GTR, would be locked away deep somewhere deep in the garage. But instead, its kept outside in front of the shop for any passerby to see and maybe get curious enough to investigate the car, and the shop it belongs to. Head on over to the desktops section to grab this photo of the Top Secret GTR in both standard and widescreen formats. -Linhbergh

To get started with our extended Tokyo Auto Salon coverage I thought I'd get things rolling with a post dedicated to the Nissan GT-R. Just over three years from its Japanese launch in December 2007, the R35 has been met with nothing but praise from both the media and happy customers. The apparently "unmodifiable" new-generation GT-R, as Nissan would have liked us to believe back in 2007, has turned out to be quite the tuner-friendly car, able to crank out 600 HP with only a few minor...

I was aimlessly stumbling around the vast highways of the interwebs earlier when I came across this video of the HKS GT-R GT800 on the HKS Europe website. It was only a few seconds into the video I noticed that someone had created closed captioned subtitles for the video, translating from the original Japanese to English. Enquiring with Masaya of HKS Europe, the video is the second of two videos that HKS Europe have subtitled to allow those of us who are unable to speak Japanese to still enjoy these videos. It's a great initiative by the HKS Europe team and I've been told it's only the beginning. Be sure to have CC switched on in the Youtube video frame to get the subtitles on screen.
