It was impressive just how many familiar faces I came across at the WTAC last month. Thanks to the success of the Drift Matsuri events up in Ebisu Circuit it seems half of the Australian drifting community has been to Japan's drift heaven. So it was no surprise that I bumped into David and Brie Lawrie from Japanese Parts and Performance who over the last couple of years have traveled to Japan every time Ebisu opens its gates to the best drift event on the planet. Prior to flying over to Australia...

Perspective can often make even the most familiar of things look completely different. Traveling often has this effect on people; we might see similar things in other countries and in other cultures but there are always subtle differences that make them seem almost alien. Take the RPS13 you see here. It might be based on a car that I've become extremely familiar with in Japan over the past decade, having shot a variety that were built for different disciplines. But the moment I saw this example...

Another car that blew me away at the Meister Cup was the red GP Sports-kitted RPS13 which arrived unexpectedly. As we mentioned in the Things To Do Before You Die post about Japan is that you never know what to expect at the smaller events in Japan and this is a perfect example. The car isn't like your average RPS13 although there are quite a few 180SXs coming out with this particular kit from GP Sports. This particular car was built by V Factory in Kobe, with their D1 driver using it as a daily...

It was hard to figure out who was driving what on Sunday's Drift Muscle round. So many D1 drivers were present, but without their easily recognizable D1 cars. As soon as I started shooting I quickly noticed a particularly well-driven RPS13... ...smoothly being flinged around the tricky course. The skills were obviously those of an experienced driver and once I spotted the Koguchi Power sticker on the rear hatch window I knew it could have only been Yoshinori Koguchi at the wheel. Mean front end...

Before I begin I know this car won't have the same impact on you as it does to me. To me something like this is truly amazing, a car that arrives straight across the ocean from Japan, something so authentic I couldn't resist shooting....

Living in a cramped metropolis like Tokyo can be quite stressful, especially if you are into cars. I see all kinds of exotics on a regular basis around the city, all traveling at a max of 30 mph, or sitting in traffic. I don't get it. Why would you even bother? On top of the obvious show off factor, driving a sports car around built up areas in Japan is nothing short of pointless and that goes for the outskirts too, which most times are even more crowded than the heart of the city as there are...

A couple of weeks ago, I flew down to Adelaide, South Australia, where I met Jake Jones , for the G1 Extreme Drift Competition. Whilst making the trip on the interstate we both thought it would be ideal to feature his RPS13 drift car. It is always a bonus when the owner of a car has a rough idea on location for a shoot. Jake had a few spots in mind which were a huge help for me as I had never been to South Australia before. Speaking with Jake a night prior to the photo shoot, he mentioned the 'Barossa...

By now, the majority of you would be familiar with Nigel Petrie and his stunning RPS13. Well here it is, this time with new shoes on. Whilst Nigel was signing on he handed me the keys and offered me to go take some photos of it. An offer I couldn't resist right? Driving to the back end of Winton Raceway and entering the pit area, it looked like an exceptional location for some photos. Nigel and I arrived at the gates early Saturday morning in the cold, rainy darkness where we awaited Yoshi to...

Competition drift cars seem to come in two flavours these days. The first is the manufacturer backed cars, which although are rare are the ones to beat. The second is the homebuilt effort which probably accounts for 99% of competition drift cars on the planet. This is one of those cars that was built the hard way. The car first appeared in 2009 in it's previous red WKD colours. It was a season of mixed luck for Nigel, he picked up his first Prodrift win in a borrowed 180SX (His old car incidentally...

What we have here is probably one of the finest 180SX street cars in the entire Republic. Properly stanced cars are quite a rareity here as the roads are so bad and those who do bother to have their car's sitting just so rarely bring them far. The owner is Keith Weldon. The sense of taste is obviously strong with this family as the red FD you can just about make out beside the 180SX is his brother's car. On the outside we have a full respray in Midnight Purple with gold micro flake, 50mm...

All eyes have been on the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada these past 2 weeks, so it's only fitting that we showcase a little piece of the west coast scene by highlighting some cool local S13s. These cars may look a bit rough around the edges but they do have oodles of style. I get the feeling these cars, there are just build to drift so they don't have to look like showqueens. The white S13 has had quite a history as it was vandalized last year. Some people spray painted the car and...

Hello Speedhunters, my name is Claudio Jacuzzi and I am the owner of the RPS13 you see here. I picked up the car back in 2008 with the idea of preparing the car with a true and authentic JDM feel, something that is hard to find in Italy where I'm from. So the first thing that had to be done is get rid of the stock CA18DET and replace it with an SR20DET black-top from a damaged S14 I had found. This not only gave me an immediate boost in power but opened up a huge potential for modifications....

Making a list with cars is always difficult because there will always be people that are disappointed that their favorite car didn't made the list. But I tried and have collected several S13's and RS13's to celebrate this day, tomorrow there will be more S14's and last but not least the S15's. This list has been made in no particular order. Koguchi Power 180SX. I wanted to start with my personal favorite, this Koguchi built car. The 180 was constructed for Yuko Wakabayashi, Koguchi's...

This S13 has been around on the Driftworks forum for some time now but it recently underwent a transformation to what you see in the picture above. Its not often that I'll stop and stare at a car but thats exactly what I did with Rolv Anders Jacobsen's RPS13 drift machine. Its a truely stunning machine. Check out his project thread over at the Driftworks forum. Driftworks project thread Bryn Alban

We are well into Drift Month here at Speedhunters so I though it would be fitting to feature a rather special ride, the Dee's Club Stream Z GT Jr. Built in collaboration with Nagata-san at Top Secret and Okachan at Yashio Factory this car is the brainchild of Daijiro Inada, the father of D1, Option Magazine and Tokyo Auto Salon. He wanted to create something unique, a car that would get noticed but most importantly one that would be perfect for him to hone his drifting skills in. As a result...

Here in Southern California, warm weather is coming soon! I look forward to upcoming Just Drift events and ZipTied All Star Bash! Nowadays, All Star Bash style is all about big aero, super wide wheels, stretched tires, fat lips, etc... however, I wonder how many Speedhunters readers and grassroots drifting enthusiasts remember the days when it was a little more simple? Up above, check out Stan Tran's RPS13, doing a little dirt drop action at the Willow Springs oval. This was from one of the early...

Damn, just look at how mean and how cool this 180SX looks in this photo!!! I'm not even an S13 guy, but it makes me drool! This is definitely the type of car that would inspire someone to buy an S13!!! Damn, I love it!!! So dope. I know that some Speedhunters readers have been waiting for this feature for quite some time! Sorry for the wait guys, we were saving this one for Nissan month! How could we have Nissan month without Koguchi's RPS13 180SX? Come on! This past summer, we posted a few...

We've been getting a pretty good response on the photos I shot at the JustDrift/Ziptied All Star Bash 4, so I thought I'd post up some more photos for everyone to check out! Here's the starting grid at the Willow Springs Balcony... it was like a Good Offset Festival , so that definitely brought a smile to my face! It's like... the paint is cool, the aggressive and low aero kits are cool, but the stance is the main thing that makes me think a car looks cool or not. It still holds true...

Everyone's been waiting for more photos from this past weekend's JustDrift/Ziptied.com AllStarBash 4 presented by Federal Tires, so here are some more for ya! I really gotta give props to the drifters and drifting fans from all over the West Coast who braved the 100+ degree heat in Southern California's Mojave Desert; it was ridiculously scorching hot - the type of heat that leaves you sunburnt and sunstroked with heat exhaustion. One thing I feel the need to mention too... even though...
