Last weekend at the Formula Drift awards banquet, an award for "Best Looking Car" was given out. I'm not exactly sure what criteria was used in the judging, but I don't disagree with the results. As part of our Driver's Month features on Speedhunters, we figured it'd be the perfect time to do a feature on the "Rossta" S15. On Saturday morning I took a short drive over to Garage Boso in Gardena where co-owner Frank Siharath showed me around the shop and rolled out the infamous multicolored S15 for some photos....

We're only a few days past the end of the '09 Formula Drift Season and already the offseason news is starting to flow in. Kenji Yamanaka, who's driven for Drift Emporium over the past couple seasons has a new ride for 2010 - sort of. He's actually going back behind the wheel of the old JIC Magic S15 that he drove from 2005-07. The car has been purchased by Bridgeway Motorsports in the SF Bay Area and is being outfitted with a GM LSx engine to match Kenji's driving style. You might...

With the D1 Grand Prix all done for a good five months I thought it would be cool to take a look back over the last few years and more to the point at some of the top drifters that have participated in the Japanese drift championship. I've picked two names that are synonymous with D1, drivers that for some reason or another are no longer competing at a professional level in Japan. First up is Katsuhiro Ueo, in my opinion the best AE86 drifter out there... ...driver of the unmistakable Racing...

A week ago or so me and some mates headed out to a private drift day at Queensland Raceway here in Australia. This day, was just one of those days, 5:30AM wakeup in winter, at the stage where you can't see 2 meters past your front door there is that much fog. The air is crisp and you're full of adrenalin for a big day! These events are held monthly during the week, and I missed out on two last semester, but I was lucky to get this day off and I'm glad i did! Myself and Robo in his Hachi...

It's been a while since we released a Speedhunters video I know.... but after a few delays, the production of a whole new set of videos is now under way! This particular video was shot at Ebisu Circuit last August... we had just finished filming the Team Orange Triple Drift film but I had one more shot I wanted to get done. So I asked Kumakubo if he could mangji drift directly towards me..... And then circle the camera, before manji-ing again all the way down the straight.... "No problem...

Speedhunters all-out drift month might be over, but everyone knows that that the drifting never really stops here. Here's some high res goodness from the lens of John Brooks at the NFS European Drift Championship opener at Oulton Park. The car of course is event winner Phil Morrison's Toyota-powered Drift Works S15 Silvia.
Widescreen and standard versions are available now in the Speedhunters Desktops section.

The first time I ever saw Japanese drifting in person, was at an event called GT Battle, held at Rockingham Circuit, UK in the summer of 2005. After watching a lot of JDM Options and reading any Japanese magazine I could get my hands on, I was pretty excited to see two D1GP icons on European soil. The event was held in preparation for the D1GP that would kick off later that year at Silverstone on the 2 nd of October 2005. In the morning we headed out to the circuit and there I saw the Kei Office...

Take an S15 Silvia convertible, give the car proper stance car, add a dash of 19" E66 7 series BMW wheels, and sprinkle some Tra Kyoto magic, and poof! You get a flavor of S15 that has not been tasted by many. And so I ask, how does it taste? -Linhbergh Nguyen

It's not too early to enjoy some nice high res content from FD Long Beach is it? Here's Ross Petty's "Rossta" S15 during one of his practice runs on Friday morning. As usual, widescreen and standard versions can be found in the Speedhunters Desktops section.

The Driftworks S15 has been overhauled for the 2009 drift season. The most obvious change is the new color, but the engine has also been tweaked and now it delivers 666.4 bhp. You can check out more pictures here on the Driftworks forum. You can also check out our previous feature on the car that John Brooks made in November last year. -Jeroen Willemsen

Maybe some of you guys remember the crash of two R33's owned by Japspeed in the European Drifting Championship during the last round on Silverstone. Luckily, both drivers, Shane Lynch and Danny Ayles, got out without any injuries. Hooray for doorbars! Click here for the video of the crash. The car snapped back viciously and bounced off the tyre wall into Danny's car. Shane had no chance but to hold on and await impact. Danny, who was in transition (hand-braked sideways), could not avoid Shane's...

Less than a week from now I'll be back home in California eating at my favorite burger joint for first time in nearly a year and a half, but right now I can't think about that stuff too much as I'm trying to focus on keeping the posts coming while at the same time helping the wife with moving preparations and last minute packing.
For this post, I want to quickly share with you something I spotted last week when I was visiting HKS. As Saitou-san was showing me around the place, we walked by one the company's many R&D garages where I caught a peak of this red S15 Silvia sitting within. ...

Here’s a sneak peak of my new competition car for the 2009 Formula D season. The new Falken Nissan S15 Silvia. I have always been a fan of S-Chassis’. I believe that S-Chassis’s are the benchmark of drift cars and the S15 is the final evolution of the proven chassis series. This S15 has been a car that I have idolized every since I first got heavily involved with competitive drifting back in 2003. I can’t believe that it will actually be my competition car!...

Throughout this month I'm going to be digging through my archive of old photos and posting up some of my favorite Nissan shots from various events and track days here in Japan. First up, I wanted to look at some the Nissan Silvia and 180SX grip/time attack cars that I have seen at Tsukuba Circuit over the past several months. When it comes to time attack cars, the AWD GT-R, Evo, Impreza, and the FR S2000 and FD3S come to mind, but the S-chassis also has very large following among grip racers in Japan....

They say that racing improves the breed, they also say that win on Sunday, sell on Monday. Both are clichés but contain more than a grain of truth. And that truth provides the motivation for the Driftworks Company to showcase the products available at their on line store. Of course having a bit of fun along the way also plays a part too, as Phil Morrison admitted to me. Driftworks was set up nearly 5 years ago and provides a top quality parts services to all levels of the drifting community...

This wheel was spotted on a Nissan S15 during a Australian car show. The car has the best of both worlds, it sports some serious power and has some nice parts to show it off. The most striking part of the car are the wheels, they are a set of Gram Lights 57s-pro with a titanium coated outer edge. These wheels will give you some serious styling points on any carshow. The picture was taken by Felix Alim -Jeroen Willemsen Gram Lights , spotted on the racer86 blog

You know sometimes I feel guilty about being such a drifting fanboy.... aren't we supposed to be avoiding the creation of smoke to save the planet?.. hmmm...
Anyway Phil Morrison in his S15, certainly can be said have personally increased the average temperature in the UK by at least a few degrees..... Check this video that Driftworks shot over the weekend at the JDM Allstars/Pro Drift event.

As Mike already mentioned in his event report of the Drift Australia Season Finale , it was a busy weekend for the drifting community. In the same weekend Europe witnessed the final of the Prodrift European Series and the JDM Allstars, who decided to join forces and give the audience one hell of an event. It was held on the Lydden Hill Circuit in the UK, that meant that a lot of drivers from Ireland made the journey to compete against UK's finest. Lydden Hill is famous for their high curbing...
